Hi,

I'm wondering,if landing the A10 in real-life is that easy like in the sim. I have the feeling, I can land this bird nearly everywhere with bad angles and high speeds without any or at least serious damage. Compared to FC it is a night and day differnce to me.

Perhaps it is because of beta-state, or is the A10 really that rugged?

ps.: The flight-model seems wonderfull to me and I'm so happy, ED has put out the beta allready, so please don't get me wrong - I was just a bit surprised about the landing like it is simulated right now.

I'm asking myself the same question, since I made a couple of really heavy landings, but apart of a bit louder noise and more smoke from the tires at touchdown everything stayed in one piece. Unfortunately I haven't recorded the track to check the vertical speed.

Hmmm, I've blown both mains landing too hard.

The flight model is probably as good as it gets being beta and all but I'd say only when they model real world environment to the T, we'll see realisic landings.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

It's a CAS fighter designed to handle quite alot of damage. As Wags already said...wide wheel base and so on. It's designed to be "easy" to bring home with or without damage :)

ummm, yessss I was experimenting when I blew the mains...:music_whistling:

Actually, it handles great and I was testing lateral give when the main blew. Awesome job you guys have done!

Well you can make it more challenging by doing a single engine approach with gusting crosswind during 200 and 1/2 vis. How's your ILS stills :D

I guess I wouldn't really know how out of whack you can be touching it down...... I've only ever made text-book-perfect landings with it :D

Try it at night in a thunderstorm with a 25knt cross wind and heavy turbulance. Then come back here and say it's easy to land ;)

Looks almost good for me if you call it a "touch down".

One note:

Try also to line up with the runway next time and you can call it nearly "landing".:megalol:

Seems harder to take off, then to land. She veers to the left, I always over correct. Sometimes the nose gear will buckle

galagamo, try to switch off the nose wheel steering very early (below speed 50). This will effectively prevent over correcting.

Cheers

I havent had a single landing that resulted in damage yet, at least that wasnt intentional, including with no engine power. Definitely seems easier than I anticipated, but the handling is way more real than FC. As far as ground handling goes, I had a little trouble the first time but quickly learned to make VERY small rudder corrections and Ive been fine since. Takeoff has been no problem too but almost every time its a little unpredictable like its not balanced and needs trim or sometimes it seems like I hit air pockets or wind sheers cause the plane will jerk or one wing makes a sudden dip. Notice it over mountains too.

Just like the Citations I fly for a living. Super easy to land... They all might not be greasers..but put it in the landing attitude and let it do its thing...

AFAIK the A-10 was designed to land on improvised runways, such as the German Autobahn runways in the Fulda-Gap-Scenario. One design characteristic that supports it is the sturdy landing gear, another point is the raised position of the engines to lower the risk of ingesting FODs on such fields.

I see. Well, one less thing to worry about, I find flying in A-10C quite easy, especially if you're not on the edge of the envelope. Take-offs, landings are not much harder than in FC2 (just remember to disengage nosewheel steering when going faster than taxiing), and basic manoeuvres are also doable with a bit of care.

I think now fly better A-10C than Ka-50 after more than a year! I doubt I'll go back to that scary contraption.

1. All landings are crash landings..

2. Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
