I dont see anything specific to FPS.

DCS World 2 Status

Work continues on DCS World 2 with progress on file structure, clouds and other effects, changes to the front-end GUI, and of course improvements to performance. We are still striving for a late-December 2014 release, but if debugging takes longer than we hope, it is possible that the release could be pushed to January/February 2015. As always, stated dates and timeframes are our best estimates and not promises.

Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) and Strait of Hormuz Map Status

Our map team is solely focused on the NTTR map right now. As mentioned in the last newsletter, the team has been having to do a lot of work adapting terrain textures and shadows since the map assets were moved from the terrainviewer tool to DCS World 2. How the terrainviewer tool and the DCS World handle light and shadows is quite different and made the NTTR map in DCS World look an odd yellow hue. In this way, the NTTR map has certainly been a test-bed for us using the new maps tools. While this and other map issues are being worked on, our map 3D modelers have had the time to add Las Vegas McCarren International airport. If time allows, we also hope to also add Tonopah Air Force Base (located in the northwest corner of the rand and it would provide great CONTANT PEG missions).

So out of all that listed you assumed that there is a FPS issue? Maybe you need to read?

Performance is always tweaked and adjusted as new things are added to EDGE, be it effects, new clouds, whatever... it doesnt indicate a problem but rather normal development...

Performance of object calculations on the CPU? Performance for environment calculated to slow to send data to plane modules? Performance of key bindings/input being processed and sent to the SIM in DirectX? Performance of avionics systems updates sent to the cockpit visuals lagging?

All possible with no impact to Framerates... just saying.

Lol i give up, hope its all good when it comes out. Performance covers a wide array of things yes. Its all guess work on my part and anybody other than the testers or developers. The newsletters are good but they are pretty vague on allot of subjects and specifics. Maybe follow Star Citizen SOP's and have once a month newsletter with each branch going in quick detail of their developments.... Just a suggestion As per this current sop allot of speculation and guess the F... is the result.

You are correct, it's not guesswork on our part.

I really doubt they would be saying that dec 2014 is possible if there were some major issues (like big FPS problem) to fix and they would not be testing release candidates.

How long does it take to test a build? I would guess at least a week (considering the nature of EDGE I'm inclined to believe it takes more)... So that leaves them with what? 2 weeks of development time at best? That's tomorrow in SW development and no sane manager would plan for a release in dec 2014, if they were doing anything else than tightening last few bolts.

Sure, some issue might pop-up, but that's just the nature of sw development. So, after this newsletter I'm quite optimistic. :)

They tried that, you can thank the "kids" on the forum for bitching and moaning every time. Either it was never enough info, not detailed, updates didn't come out on time, the item they were interested not mentioned, etc... It always turned into a bitch fest and hurling insults at ED, Wags and Mods.

There were many of us on the forums that tried to dissuade that behavior and tried to have the positive posts out number the negative...

Either way that bridge was burned. Now we get "air dropped" news when there's something to go over.

Ahh rgr well this last year is pretty much the only time I've been around these forums due to work busyness. Thanks for heads up I'm guilty of getting to excited for this sim and info at times to. That's too bad about past encounters. I think us older people have an undying love for this sim as it's the only epic sim out their. Plus look at those new screen shots this thing is going to get real soon lol!

Wow just watched the 109 trailer at low red but even at low res on iPad those clouds are amazing in edge. Dam wait is going to be a true test of patience. Wonder if those water impact splashes where added with this last patch as explosions and many other fx have been changed since new up date all for better in my opinion.

Here's a question, will their be a heat blur aka mirage coming from the ground aka hot tarmack effect in the new engine? If that's do able would be very epic for the desert environments.

Considering Wags not long ago posted a pic of the Mig 21 at NTTR in the Mig 21 screenshot thread, and the boys at VEAO have just posted a pic of the Hawk at Nellis to Facebook...I'm cautiously optimistic that we may indeed see DCS 2.0 before Christmas.

The Hawk shot is from Wags as well.
