Why have this Avatar?

Hi - had lately some conversations why I use this avatar....

 

 

 

And I thought It would be fun If you would also explain your motivations....

 

OK-here is mine:

 

I use this and this is the "in very good mood" version :

 

First part:

I'm addicted to old-school point and click adventures and can't forget the day when I first fired up monkey Island on my 286-PC and got introduced to my old little fellow Guybrush Threepwood.

 

I even have a usb drive on my key-chain with a portable scumm-engine and lots of the supported adventures installed on it - so -whenever I like - I can plug it in and replay some of it .- feels like reading a old good book again...;)

(and right now I'm eagerly waiting for this : Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth )

 

Second part:

I work in a insurance-company and my work reminds me often like working in a old slave-galley (btw : I don't do all the lying.. I only deliver the numbers that make this possible for someone...)...

And I wish also often to break out of this and have a rebirth as a pirate...:D

My avatar is a concept airplane I sketched then made in Solidworks. Consider this at the napkin -sketch stage, and on hold while the A-10 simpit gets built.

When I was in the military (U.S. Army) my "regimental affiliation" was the 229th Attack Helicopter Regiment. The 229th was officially named the "Flying Tigers".

 

In 1988, the 229th Aviation Regiment was granted permission from the American Volunteer Group (the "Flying Tigers") to use their name and logo.

The AVG-Flying Tigers Association has received numerous requests over the years for use of their name and logo by various groups and organizations.

The only such request ever approved by the AVG-FTA was that of the 229th.

 

Anyway, as fate and luck would have it, I never actually served in any 229th Attack Helicopter Regiment unit*, but I always liked them. My avatar is the 229th regimental crest.

 

Funny story: During PLDC (Primary Leadership Development Course) while I was in the Army, everyone was required to memorize the motto on their unit crests. Most unit crest mottoes are in Latin, so everyone had to have them memorized, in addition to knowing their meaning. I liked mine because it was easy to memorize and there was no translation required!

 

*I served with the 1-3rd Aviation Regiment and the 2-101st Aviation Regiment.

1. > "User CP" (CP=control panel - in the top left corner in the page when logged in)

 

2. > "Settings & Options" > "Edit Avatar"

 

3. check "Use Custom Avatar" > Load one Image up! Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 100.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

 

4. "Save Changes" !

Whereas my Sig is a Lockon version of the famous 1960's Roy Lichtenstein pop art in London's Tate Gallery.

I'm a Fire Fighter and a Lt within my dept, the color of the helmet is the same color we use to define a Fire Lt as opposed to a Medic Lt. Hope that answers any questions :)

Mine sums up what happens everytime I try to play a console game that is anything but Guitar Hero..I can't get my head wrapped around the controllers.. But I know everyone one of my 60+ odd buttons settings on my HOTAS !
