Mustang sound

yeh great vid, i also hope we get close to these sounds. the layers of sound in RL are incredible. sadly it would take a sim of its own to get really close in a simulated way.

im just so anxious to hear a multiple plane fly by (with engines sounds) online in the server. or just hear the lead pilots engine. that`ll do me for now :)

And how did you get it to sound like that? :)

when I have the cockpit closed it is very quiet in there, can barely hear the engine... outside it sounds normal...

the sound outside the plane sounds pretty close to real to me...

I have been next the the Merlin engine, but that was a Spitfire I was near.. That was at an airshow I worked at an airbase I was stationed at..

very smooth sounding engine...

(as opposed to German BF-109 engines who sound like the cam lobes have the engine loping..)... and backfiring sounds when in flight..

I've had the privilege of flying in a '51 on the three occassions. Beside the rock solid feel of purposefulness, the strongest impression is the noise.

My last flight was in Su Su, and Nazzi had the best noise-canceling headsets money can buy. They made it possible for us to talk almost effortlessly. I realized from prior experience, though, that something was missing. When I pulled out the ear cup I knew instantly what it was. The sound is, quite literally, deafening.

Like simulated race cars (and even real ones), a huge part of the experience is the sound. What we enjoy now in the DCS P-51 is more like what I heard with noise canceling headsets.

If there was a poll, I'd sure cast my vote in favor of having in cockpit engine sounds on an options slider.

For me, one of the negative point of DCS is the sound. some sounds are really far from the reality. I don't have P-51 but when I hear your video with your sound and the default sound into the simulation....It's a world of difference !!!

Nice work !!!

It's caused by the gunports 'fluting' with AoA at high speed and is one of the reasons I love watching a Pony being put through it's paces. Even heard a Mk IXe Spit do it once but it's really got to be thrown about to get a slight noise.

Get's the hairs on my arms and the back of my neck up everytime...

Dan Friedkin of the Horsemen said the inside the cockpit of a P-51 "sounds like an angry sewing machine." Best and most accurate description I've heard. :)

I happen to have a ~75year old Singer in the house. Perhaps I should fire it up.

Must find fire department's number!
