I'd get some legal advice if I were you. It could get very expensive otherwise!

@OP:

As much as I, too, would like to get my hands on that helo asap, you should really consider getting some professional advice here beforehand.

If it were really just about the name, the brand, then by all means name your product differently. Name it "SA 341" and use this somewhere (as livery on a (fake) product box? ;o)

But before that, perhaps talk to the VEAO guys if they can give you some advice of how to proceed (from 3rd party dev to 3rd party dev), or the Jazero guy(s) who now seem to have to deal with similar questions right now.

edit:

not implying that they can or will give you the legal advice you need - but to give you an idea of what options might exist.

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

If you want to "sell it", you need legal advice for sure. Just changing the name may not cover intellectual property for design, etc. ... other games using 'lookalike' models change the model to 'not' look like the original, just similar.

Freeware? Hrm, not that I would refuse to fly it then, but it surely would feel strange ... considering how much work went into this. At very least let us know where we could donate some bucks, Pat! :o)

(and for the question regarding IP ... this would make most certainly no difference)

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi Gents,

I'll release some pics of the final cockpit in the coming weeks if everything goes right.

Still some parts of code to change about sounds and radio.

The texture job for the external model will follow.

Thanks for your support.

[EDIT] All systems are simulated, NADIR, RWR, etc ..., only IFF is not and will not be simulated.
