OMG. Proof that Gazelle does have AA capability! How exciting. Don't know if this applies to the SA342 model though. But that would be the first chopper in DCS with AA.

SA-342L1 walk around, no Viviane camera or TV screen, so presumably lighter. Not sure how the Mistral system is targeted/fired.

You want to know what is crazy with the Gazelle ?

This cockpit is supposed to be a L1 one. You could think "Here is the standard cockpit of a L1".

But on manuals, you don't have the same. IRL, too, you don't always have the same...

Gazelle is amazing :megalol:

For the way of shooting, don't know. I don't think it's the same grip for the gunner than on the M1 version. More complex on this one, but there isn't any grip on the gunner door, so I don't know.

I only see instruments which already are present on the M1. So by tone perhaps yes.

This is so exciting. Mistral is a very short range missile, but at least it should deter some fixed wings to come and play the 'I-cut-you-in-half-with-my-gun' game. Got enough humiliation with that for the last 7 years.

Not to mention the other IA choppers threat. Unless they are heading at you head on so you can shoot them with Vikhrs (takes two for Apache I saw last night), we are no match for Apache and Mi-24 air combat (and I am talking Ka50).

There are 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 ways to die with the Gazelle.

The L1 version lowers this number to 999 999 999 999 999 999 999 999 999.

Too true - the first two to get shot down in the Falklands went down to infantry fire.

Wait for Bo105 PAH1 ... adding 10k ways to die to the cause of flying like a maniac. ;D

*unexpected flight behaviour* Oh shiii*** ! What ? Why ? What is happening ?

Yes, but anyway.

IRL, if you make a hard landing (100 m/min), don't really know how to say. The rear leg of the gear will get vertically through the aircraft, causing its partial destruction. For obvious reasons, this behavior cannot be simulated in DCS, but it will result in your helicopter ending on the side.

Over 5 M/sec, it's complete destruction. [ame]http://www.defense.gouv.fr/content/download/105614/1032427/file/Rapport%20public%20BEAD-air-T-2008-012-A.pdf[/ame]

This one, between 8 and 10m/sec estimated.

Was very surprised that Wags survived to his vortex on the last stream. Kinda lucky (Or was in immortal but ssshhhhhh :D)

yaaa glorious german engineering, titanium rotor head, no bearings, GRP blades.

Just le obvious german engineering. ;)

But unfortunately no FLIR.

First helicopter in europe to be officially cleared for looping/in general aerobatic flight iirc.

I think shooting is done using a fire button on the commander's cyclic but I'm only guessing because of a "Live" safety cover (it was open in the previous cockpit picture so hard to see)

I'm still trying to work out the sighting/alignment mechanism, there's a small window in the canopy "bubble" above the commander, so perhaps there's still a flip-down periscope sight as the Mistral MANPAD sights are small.

I'd guess - hid in ground clutter and wait, turn helicopter to azimuth as briefed/spotted i.e. BRA radio call, adjust missile inclination using manual sight using a rising tone and "lock" lamp (in the sight, if not on a panel) to confirm uncapped Mistral is tracking desired target - FIRE. In the *real* there could be an IFF challenge first, depending on ROE/equipment.

but to be honest, I was expecting the Gazelle's Mistral system to use a camera

I really don't know for this, you will have to wait for devs to share more informations, and it may take a while ;)

But on the cockpit photo you just posted, partially hidden by the collective, there is an instrument (With the 2 bigs rotators) which isn't in the M1. So it may be this. It's twice larger than the FM radio.

@Yurgon, perhaps you build nice delineators, but you don't have this :

Haha, there are so many answers coming to my mind, this could turn out to become an epic culinary battle. For the intent of retaining whatever on-topic was left in this thread, I regretfully withdraw from the battle, however not admitting defeat.

I'll have you know that haggis is one of the finer foods of life.

We Scots don't advertise our finer foods too often, but I did have to educate my Belgian wife in the fact that it's not just cheddar cheese that is made in Scotland.

We British didn't really get into the whole culinary thing - we just got our servants to deal with all that nonsense. The beer of course we had to tackle, and as a result we have the finest ales on the planet here.

Why bother with food when we have the French to make it for us?
