What if I have to deinstall and install again, for any cause?

 

 

You will be fine - it will not take another activation.

 

If I am wrong and it does then it will again be credited back to you, as what is going to happen with the activation you lost per module: You are getting them back.

So, deinstalled everything (without deactivating this time) and reinstalled, in this order BS2 1.1.1.1, and then actvating this, and then a10c, activating this. In this moment, I was again with 9 and 6 activations. After this, installed DSCW 1.2.1 and it asked me one more activation for each module.

 

BTW, Ferenc, are you aware that you don't need to install/activate the "old" stand-alone versions of BS2 or A-10C?

I mean, if you want them for whatever reason (old versions's friends to keep MP compatibility with?), go on, no problem, but AFAIK those versions are just... old, no more updates on them, no more bug fixes and so on.

And you definitely don't need them in order to install World 1.2.1 (or 1.2.0 for that matters) and their modules...

 

There are only 2 cases when you'll need "old" versions to be installed on your computers, to be allowed to install a new version:

- if you purchased BS2 as an upgrade of BS1, then you need BS1 installed as a proof of buy.

- if you purchase FC3, then as it is legally an add-on to LockOn, you'll need LO (or FC1 or FC2) installed as a proof of buy.

seriously.. your un-installing a version, and installing a completely new version, your supposed to activate it.

 

Do you throw a new Hot Hands in your pants and expect it to be automatically activated because the old one was? No. .. lol (bad example.. I know).

 

If you uninstall Windows 7, and then re-install it, you have to activate it.

 

<shrug... >its an activation.. a digital "yes i paid for my shiz here's my serial, now lemme play", you're lucky that StarForce gives you 9 to start out with... Microsoft it's like 3 before you have to call and complain that your serial dont work, Discreet/Autodesk its like 3 as well.

 

The whole de-act de-act movement overlooks things.... look at the starforce part of the site that says you also only have 9 de-activations.

On the other side of the coin, we're unlucky that we have to deal with the system to begin with, given that we paid for the software and didn't do anything to deserve being saddled with a hassle. Your "Starforce is really nice" attitude kinda smacks of Stockholm. : /

 

When we paid for the DCS modules, we accepted that Starforce is going to remove one of our activations whenever we change our "computer." Nothing was said about removing activations from DCS version changes, so your allegation--that our expectation that versions don't remove activations is unreasonable--is false.

 

Happily, it appears that Eagle Dynamics has remedied the activation/deactivation problem which occurred during release; I haven't tested it yet, but I am planning on installing the new version later today or tomorrow, as soon as I'm done working on some unrelated things.

im aware of starforce's history, I was gaming through the early "StarForce locked my DVD Drive" era when it required wiping windows and re-installing everything.

 

im just saying 1 activation out of 9 when you bought DCS:A-10/KA50/P51/CA. if you've upgraded and re-activated more than 8 times in the last 2 years, then you have a NewEgg Shopping problem worse than mine, or bad luck with parts worse than my brother's.

 

just saying 9 Act and De-Acts are plenty for the normal user, and well above what other DRM gives you

(MS Gives you 3 most of the time, then you have to call support.)

 

I could see how it would be frustrating for someone that does a lot of install/uninstalling. but for the normal user... not so much, alot of people that joined the band wagon of jump on ED over an activation obviously had no clue, they were just joining in to be part of the group. and most of them didnt even know they had a number on their de-activations too.

 

Welcome to Starforce... At least today's starforce people dont have to re-install windows when it goes haywire and locks out your Optical Drive.

Probably this is not the place to ask but here it goes...

 

Is there a fix for constant crash wen joining server on multiplayer? I want to play with some friends, but its almost impossible... There is allways one of us who gets the "DCS Stopped working" problem. We have tried it for SIX times, with diferent hosts...

 

All have the DCS world 1.2.1 version with the latest DCS Warthog version.

This autoupdater is great. Beats having to uninstall and install. Just an FYI to ED team. I am still only seeing about 10 to 13 frames in SP. Haven't tried MP yet. Running Nvidia 9600GT if that helps on Win7. That is with todays update installed.

Have you turned anisotropic filtering in nvidiaCP to application controlled? That helped me a ton.

Okay, I've given myself a headache. Installed 1.2.1. and my A10C and CA self activated. It worked fine. Then after I set up my rudder pedals (I forgot to set up the brakes) and went back into the game, I think my Kaspersky screwed things up and the game wouldn't work at all - something about a "PDM Keylogger". So, with some of the files screwed up, I uninstalled and reinstalled the 1.2.1 world again. But this time there was no self activation and I have dollar signs at my A10C and CA. I tried to force the activation by holding down shift and the multiplayer icon, but that just takes me into the multiplayer area. HELP?????

You could probably just use the 'repair' option - pretty sure that should scan your install and re-download any files that are missing or different from the official ones.

Did you re-install the modules? If you uninstall DCS World, it will also uninstall any modules you've installed into it (the modules don't get their own icon in add/remove programs, for example).

Merci nomdeplume! lol! I should never try to do this stuff when I'm tired and haven't had my coffee. As soon as I read your reply (I just had a good night's sleep) I realized I hadn't reinstalled the modules - and I think I spent a few hours trying to figure things out. Thanks again.

Guys.

My experience with 121 has been very good.

1. deleted 120

2. did not delete save games

3. did not deactivate

4. installed 121

5. It updated itself straight away and I had a quick fly of su25. All working but frames down.

6. Installed the A10, P51 and Bs2 upgrade. Each requiring activation but it already new my key so all I had to do was press next. No loss of activations !!!!

7. Flew all the aircraft. No requirement to reprogram any contols or keys.

8. Yesterday Auto Updater patched me to 6192 and my frames shot up to better than they have ever been.

9. Even still have my 74th black skin mod !!!

Not deleting my saved games folder was a bit of a gamble and it may come back to bite me but I believe the secret to my success was that, appart from my 74th skin mod, I ran everything defult in 120.

I'm 6192 and I'm still getting low fps, 15 steady rarely jumping up to 18, on the first update of 1.2.1 i was getting an average 12fps, before it was 25fps average, also the whole thing crashed and crashed me computer i had to do a hard restart.

 

Also i get like 1 fps when the mission first starts for about 5 seconds then goes back to 15.

same for me, with the 1.2.1 update (somethings around the 6055 patch) I had 25 Frames average, even on ground with all specs on maximum. Now it drobed down to 10 FPS again. Thats a shame, it was so great to finally play without all this stuttering...now it´s back.

 

I think there were simply too much people who had bad issues with the patches, that forced ED to drive it back to 1.2.0 status...too bad

Thought I would insert a bit of positive feedback so anyone reading the forums doesn't get the idea all is doomed.

 

I haven't had any issues with respect to FPS for 1.2.1 from the start. The updates have had little or no impact on my count. Now I'm not trying to run 4 or 5 monitors either, just 2 (1 mainscreen and 1 for the MFCD's and Helios). I set the MaxFPS to 29 in the graphics.cfg and fly at a solid 30. If I leave it at 120 I get between 45 and 60.

 

Settings are all high but with civ traffic and heat blur off. Cockpit is 1024, HDR on, MSAA 8x, TSAA on, sync on, windowed mode, tree and cockpit shadows on, mirrors off. Aero is enabled. Preload radius is max (150000m)

 

The auto update has worked great and the only minor issue is having to reset my tweaks but since they are all tabbed in Notepad ++ it takes about 20 seconds to reset. Great not having to redo the controls each time now.

 

Just have to try out MP side now to see how that is working.
