aaron886 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 The FPS issue has yet to be fixed by an update. I think it will probably be announced.
YeaImRota Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Ok just an idea, try the attachment below - it's the High.lua from 1.2.0, if some of you could try this out and report their findings it would be of great help (backup original file and extract into \DCS World\Config\terrain) Mustang, Thanks for the quick response. After the auto-update, my frame rates went back up to 50, and with the old high.lua file that you posted, I'm now back at an average of 55-57. However, the new explosion effects absolutely kill my frame rates down to around 15-20 when there are a bunch of them in a row. For example, a rocket salvo from the Su-25T. Hopefully this can be looked at. http://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit Hoggit 1st Fighter Wing Weekly training missions on Tuesday nights, missions on Saturdays! TS3: hoggit.us
Azraeil Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 While we are on the topic of frame rate, can someone explain why certain areas have intrinsically low frame rates ~30fps while other areas can have in excess of 60 fps regardless of what graphics config I use such as triple monitor setup, single monitor high or low settings (with key things always kept off such as HDR, tessellation-aa, etc) ?? tested with both specs below system specs old: i7 920, gtx 460 sli (upgrade to single 670 2gb), 6gb 1600 mhz ram, (power supply went kaboom) system specs new: i5 3570K, 670 2gb sli, 16gb 1600 mhz ram I aware of the poor sli optimisations, but my question is to the cause of the apparent 30fps hardcap in certain areas of DCS world. Still downloading 1.2.1, will check framerate when I install it and report back here.

Thanks for the feedback guys, keep the reports coming.
Echo38 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I use customized graphical settings, not one of the three presets (low, medium, high); is there any file I can save from my old World installation and copy into the new one, so that I don't suffer the frame rate decrease while playing the new version?
Ike4fin Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 New fire/smoke effects seems to cause poor fps for me during battles. aka [82nd]Ike
Corrigan Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Would the explosion framerate problem described by yoyo here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=94724 be included in any patch? I mean, are they the same issue? Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
MagnumHB Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I doubt it, or at least completely, because the CBU-87 was a problem in 1.2.0 as well. The new particle effects in World seem to be terribly optimized so far.
Corrigan Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I remember reading that the CBU performance issues would be fixed. If they've now made all the other explosions similar, I will not be a happy camper. Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5

aaron886 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I think, and I could be wrong, that ED is still using a pretty old shader model. No doubt it's contributing to that problem. The whole sim needs a new particle engine that takes advantage of modern hardware, really.

Perhaps make use of some of graphics card. I think so far most of this sim is very CPU intensive. With over 1 GB vid cards being standard, I think for sure the card can draw some very cool graphical effects. MagnumHB Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Did you not notice that the explosion effects received a massive overhaul when World was launched? Prior to that, A-10C and BS were using LO-era effects (or something derived from them), which while not as fancy, were far superior to what we have now in terms of gameplay.

Agreed, I would rather have old and smooth effects until ED makes proper effects that doesn't kill your pc. aka [82nd]Ike
Witchking Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I don't think its that bad. I don't have a great system..but I love that finally we have some nice smoke when cannon rounds impact the ground. Optimization is necessary, but its a nice step forward....the effects definitely need more tweaking and enhancements. SkateZilla Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) i got my FrameRate back to 1.2.0 standards (or closer too) by dumping EDs DEfault 3-Screen LUA and going back to my custom Eyefinity LUA. Still having intermittant issues with mouse, and having to ALT TAB and go back, at the start of missions or when going from Mainscreen to MP Screen. Renderer also takes a minute to come back up when alt tabbing (sit at a black screen, then it comes back w/ scambled UI then restores it self correctly). Slap_Chop Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Sad to say FPS drop with 1.2.1 . I actually had better frame rate with 1.2.0 than with 1.1.1.1 so I'm somewhat surprised. Still some tweaks to do yet. But yes less FPS 50's to 30's I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy and I've had both. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

aaron886 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Once again (it's going to have to be said once a page because no one ever reads,) this is a KNOWN issue, it's a repeatable problem that affects multiple types of hardware. ED will be updating World with the auto-updater to fix it.

ED Team BIGNEWY Posted October 2, 2012 ED Team Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) Still a massive drop here as well, also my client did a small update this morning and it reset all of my exported mfd's and so on. Will it do that every time I use the auto updater ? EDIT: update made a backup folder, nice :) Edited October 2, 2012 by BIGNEWY Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Azraeil Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) Frame rate has nearly halved for me. Up and about in the air has gone from 60 -> 35 fps. EDIT: Oh and now I am crashing at the master server list. Hoorah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edited October 2, 2012 by Azraeil
mcfly_98 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 low FPS in 1.2.1=>maybe a hint Hello, yesterday i installed DCS-W 1.2.1. And i see something interresting regarding the fps maybe. My System is pretty fast: 6 core @ 3,8 GHz & nVidia GTX690 At first 1.2.1 seems to runs smoother then 1.2.0. In many situations @ 60fps (yes i have vsnyc on). But if you activate any second "viewport" the framerate drops dramatic. For example. I started in the Mustang (1680x1050) with activated mirror. I get 20-30 fps. If i deactivate the mirror (with mouse in cockpit). The fps rises to 50-60. Another test. I started the Mustang with setting "MFCD" (i have 3 monitors). Even without anything rendered at the outer monitors the fps is low @ 15-20 fps. Not sure that was that dramaticly before 1.2.1. Btw.: The graphic card usage is under 70% during the hole testing. Max Alaising or HDR doesn't impact the fps. Btw2: the mirror shows graphic glitches on the ground. I would be great if DCS could use multithreading for different viewports. This and a dedicated server i'am still hoping for. cu...
