cichlidfan
Yes and no, you will have the ability to opt out of the Beta releases, or chose to join in to help fight the bugs... just an extra option to help ED deliver a better product. As opposed to not updating now, how is that different? ED Team NineLine Posted August 2, 2013 ED Team Share Posted August 2, 2013 You will get the updates much sooner than you do now I would imagine. As well, I imagine there will be something in place making it easier to avoid the beta release if you so choose.... As opposed to not updating now, how is that different? Feuerfalke
As opposed to not updating now, how is that different? That's a question of a glas half full or half empty, I guess. If you rather wait for feedback on releases before updating or you're mostly playing alone or you don't mind disabling the update, I guess that new option is obsolete. For everybody else, it seems pretty handy to me, to solve this problem with a simple click. SkateZilla
I'm pretty sure we can add DCS World to the Library on steam manually, so it shows your friends your playing it, but it wont control Updates/DRM/File Verification. Will test tonight or this weekend on backup PC and backup steam login. It might not even broadcast to friends if your playing it. EtherealN
"We do not believe it is possible to move DCS products purchased outside of Steam into Steam." That's very disappointing. Not up to ED. Valve is a for-profit company, and downloading stuff on their servers is a cost to them. Allowing games to be moved to their platform even though they received no money for the purchase is a bad idea financially; they do allow it for their own games (no surprise), for games that use their own DRM etcetera, and there have been a few exceptions outside of that where it is unknown what kind of deal happened in the background. When was the last time you were able to move a game purchase done on Origin to Steam, for example? ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

It would be nice to be able to go the other way, such as my A-10C was purchased on Steam, but obviously I use it in the standard release of DCS:W, and the key is picked up there (and it may do that at some point, but I have no idea on that) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

cichlidfan
I find this opening threads for the update before the update has been released pretty annoying and pathetic. All it means is anyone wanting to read opinions or debate over the update have to troll through posts and childish BS. I'd like the moderators to delete them in future. -MadCat-
Well for me, the game doesn't start as the currently active window. Clicking anywhere brings me to my desktop. Seems to have been an issue once already: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98968&highlight=full+screen The AI still takes control of client crafts once I hop into another one (single player that is). If this is going to be a feature, please make it optional or someone explain me please how to turn it off, I didn't find a way yet. Old missions crash dcs once I quit the missions and the loading bar reaches 100%. I now need to redo them, fortunately I didn't make too complex ones in the past. For the things mentioned, I'm still somewhat disappointed about 1.2.5 to be honest. Yes I already did try the repair function but lack the time or leisure to reinstall everything right now. Regarding steam, I may be among the minority with this, but I hope both ways to purchase and run DCS remain? Sure steam spreads the attention further, but I'd not like to be forced to have steam running too when playing dcs. Just my 2 Cents, thanks for the update nonetheless ! You've got it pretty much right there - it is possible for a publisher to do this, but it would not be free nor automatic; essentially they end up paying whatever license fee Valve charges for each key and then shuttle these out to the customers. When this is already factored in (like when they say on kickstarters and similar that "you'll get a Steam key if we manage to get the game on steam") they'll already have factored this into their calculation. ED Team NineLine Posted August 2, 2013 ED Team Share Posted August 2, 2013 Plan B, Download DCSW For Free on Steam, Copy the Module Folders to the SteamApps/DCSWorld/Mods/ folder? I dont think that will work as the keys for activation on Steam seem different than regular keys. Least in my testing so far. But I would be happy to be proven wrong once its released. hypersonik
Excellent update :)... thanks Wags. Glad to hear about open beta ( will 1.2.6 be or from there on ?) - I wonder how the "semi-automatic" steam update is gonna work .. hopefully the version lag is not more than a week or so. Sharpe
question about open Beta. I take it DCSW is registry dependent? Because if it wasn't I figured it would have been a lot easier to set two installs, one regular, and one for testing.

Since ED never promoted that we would get free keys for Steam use it is only fair. However, it'd be great if they allowed users to pay the "valve fee" and get the steam activation keys, without having to buy the module over again.
