Hmmm.... but that requires completely new and different level of details (map and terrain). DCS maps are good for airplanes... To make any sense these days, it has to be at least level of Steel Armor: Blaze of War (Arma level is rather impossible in terms of EDGE). DCS's map resolution matches resolution of M1 Tank Platoon 2's map. I think it's not good enough for tank sim today. But we'll see. It would be awesome. Right now i'd prefer DCS level Su-27 ;)
EDGE is not limited to the detail level that you see on the NTTR. There could be smaller specialized maps made to a much higher level of detail specifically for ground combat vehicles.

I just read the ED newsletter. Wow, EDGE in 1.3.0?! I guess it´s nice to have an announcement for a specific version number, but given past experience - who knows?!

Sorry guys, I really appreciate the changes currently being made and all the new projects and ideas in the background, but when is this ever gonna come out?

Just a rough projection:

1.2.7 -Dec 2013 -> 1.2.8 Apr 2014 -> 1.2.9 Aug 2014 -> 1.3.0 Dec 2014

(and that´s only linear, without any delays like, say RRG or somebody else having some troubles with their content prior to the release of a certain version)

No offense, but in 2013 we were made to believe that it might be released before the end of the year, now it´s gonna be the same thing in 2014? This is just getting pushed back while there are new projects popping up at the side line all the time... Personally, I´m kinda disappointed about this point in the newsletter. Anyway, thanks for the awesome work so far.

On second thought, there´ll probably be enough new content to keep us busy for a while. :)

EDIT:

Could it possbile that a simultaneous implementation of EDGE and the new WWII-sim is the reason behind this, so that there would be as little redundance in their work as possible?

Since you brought it up...

Can someone explain why the news letter goes out two days after the sale started (26 March 2014). One third of the sale period has already passed.

EDNews_zps4ad23058.jpg

Why does the sale announcement appear to be dated with a date that does not exist. Had it been cut-n-pasted right from the News text, the date would have read differently, and correctly indicated the sale start date, two days earlier.

For sure you would have made detective. :D I scrolled right pass that one. :P

I should also mention that this has to be the best news letter to date.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Who said there has to be a version 1.2.9? I have even seen devs do stuff like 1.2.10 after 1.2.9 instead of 1.3.0

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Yeah, that´s possible, but when I hinted at that possibility some time ago, a mod jumped up and said it would most likely be straight forward 1.2.8 through to 1.3.0. It´s based on that non-official info.

At this point I´m really wondering if DCS WWII is affecting the release date of EDGE in any way.

RRG having a Delay wouldnt impact DCSW, it would impact DCS WWII which is a separate build.

Development isnt Linear, ie (not using exact dates, but:)

1.2.2, Nov 2012 -> 1.2.3, Feb 2013, About 3 Months

1.2.3, Feb 2013 -> 1.2.4, Apr 2013, About 2 Months

1.2.5, Jul 2013 -> 1.2.6, Sep 2013, About 2 Months

Is it possible that the model for predictions of "development speed/efficiency" should be based on average monthly temperatures, very much like a turbine engine?

Seeing as 1.2.8 isnt released yet, and still has to go through Open Beta Stage...

yep, that's why i wrote April, while today is still March :) but anyway, i dont care, i want an open beta stage 1.3.0 edge :D

another point: i just downloaded latest modelviewer with my full download speed - pretty sure if there are too many customer downloading/buying dcs spring sale products then i could not download with max speed ;)

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
