IvanTehFennec
I don't see the issue. Install DCS thru ED website. Add DCS into steam "as non-steam game". It will then show in steam. Play it. Don't get me wrong, i'm a huge fan of steam, but that doesn't mean steam is a mandatory solution. :P Maybe it's the fact that people want stat-tracking. Either way, it's FULLY possible to install ED Store modules into the Steam version without major issues, just the moderators always attempt to censor it. I'd write a full guide if they'd let me. IvanTehFennec
Because it's not supported. So? Why can't the community post about how to do it with explicit disclaimers of "ED DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS" or something of the like? Not like people already do it, or modify game files. Hell, ED even gets more money this way, by showing people they don't have to wait to get Steam versions of their aircraft. Wait a sec? it doesn't track the launcher and dcs.exe files? You have to use a 3rd-party program (such as AMD Malware Evolved), to track time. 1. Look, I didn't delete or censor your guide to installing ED Modules into steam, so you can stop saying Moderators are censoring you, Im simply emphasizing that the method isnt endorsed or supported. 2. AMD Gaming Evolved/Raptr being Malware is besides the point. What's more important to the Average user?: A. Steam Tracking Game Time. B. Being able to use their modules without having to jump through hoops every update. Seriously though, if you want to get all technical about it. I was able to Simply Copy/Paste my modules folder from ED's Install to Steam's as long as they are the same version since Day 1. It's Easy, just takes up more space. I was also able to force the Steam install to use the ED DCS Updater to update everything easily (then disable steam auto updating for DCS), while Steam still tracked the DCS Playtime. Meaning Steam will track playtime, and DCS Will update and install anything from the Module Manager using the DCS Updater Application. So I Get ED's Standalone Version compatibility and update ability for modules, and steam to track game play. shagrat
Because it is "not supported" as in: "if you break your steam install or loose aactivations, or run on what ever trouble" people come here and complain! You can remove the brakes from your car, put a whole in the floor and brake with your shoes, but it is a bit asking for trouble? SkateZilla
So, why can't ED take that next step, and simply publish a "How-To" for everyone? Simply put, it's a complicated procedure to do so, same as yours. The more complicated a procedure is, the more a average user will make a mistake and corrupt their install. If a User wants to Keep a ED DCSW and a Steam Version Side by side, and just make sure they are the same version all the time, and update both of them, All they'd have to do is copy the module's folder from one to the other. IvanTehFennec
In part, probably because the folks at Steam would not be thrilled. I doubt they care. Hate to say, but I'm certain DCS makes up not even enough of sales to show up on a graph. Simply put, it's a complicated procedure to do so, same as yours. SkateZilla
In part, probably because the folks at Steam would not be thrilled. There are plenty of games on Steam that once downloaded use a separate front end GUI to update and maintain a title. Steam is merely used as a primary install point, updates and DLC are maintained through the game's GUI. TBH, In My Personal Opinion, I think the Module Manager and DCSUpdater should be integrated into the Steam Version, Simply because Steam has no other way for users to manage modules other than the "View DLC" Screen, which doesn't show Serials bound to an ED Multiplayer Account. Keep The Steam version the same, all the module buy buttons goto Steam Store, but also have the Module Manager Integrated, and a User can use that+DCS Updater to install and maintain Non-Steam Modules. Or Make the Module Manager an External Application, that can be used with both ED and Steam Distributions. Etc Etc. BitMaster
What is it storing in Appdata? That's what I asked myself too and went on a search in Windows Explorer. It showed various hits but none of them was actually directly dcs related. It had AppCrash logs resulting from a dcs.exe crash, nothing you actually need. hidden somewhere in AppData-local-MS-Win-WER-ReportArchive most files I had on my desktop regarding dcs had links still in temp folders that showed up too....garbage... I don't think there is anything directly in AppData and I dont think the DCS deinstaller would delete any of those files that showed up when searching AppData for dcs . shagrat
Beginning 00005.802 DXRENDERER... seems DirectX has a problem here. My best guess, check that you have DirectX 9c installed (should be done with DCS World install, but sometimes it gets broken). Second check graphics card drivers. If you happen to have an AMD video card, also consider to try older drivers. AMD does not officially support DirectX9 since quite a while.... usually it still runs fine, but if everything else fails, it's worth a shot. Hope that helps. Consider opening a trouble ticket at the support?
