Thanks for the help. I was able to start the DCS download, put it on hold and then buy the Mig-21 module. Transfer of license over to my DCS account worked like a charm. Now all I need to do is figure out how to start the engine :-)

I had a post opened but i thought it would be easier to ask here. Will i ever have to worry about DCS Modules and maps not coming to steam. I know they will take longer but i just like having all my games on steam and don't want some developer to say no to adding there Aircraft or Map on steam.

I might be over reacting

No reason to think ED will stop supporting Steam, even if they do, Steam keys can be moved to the stand alone, but I have no reason to think you need to worry about that.

It is up to the individual 3rd parties, if they want to sell on Steam or not. In short, there is no guarantee, though I can't imagine why they would not.

The question was not just about ED and being able to use your keys standalone does not address the ' i just like having all my games on steam' issue.

Point is, if Steam support fell apart, you wont lose your games or ability to take part in DCS, you would just have to move to the stand alone, but I have no reason to believe its anything to worry about.

They most probably will. Unless a 3rd party developer would oppose. No-one currently developing for ED is objecting steam sales, and every developer save for RAZBAM and Polychop have products for sale on steam. The mirage is still brand-new ofcourse, and still has issues with crashes particulary when the radar drops a track or faces a jammer. When things like that get ironed out I'm sure it will make it's way to steam. Polychop has yet to bring out a product although the Gazelle is looking close to release.

Everything that we know is being developed right now from the Hornet to the strait of Hormuz to the Spitfire variants will make its way to Steam. I'm sure any dev who thinks about coding for ED is aware that they sell products on steam and that there is a market for their produce on steam as well should they manage to get a module ready.

If at any point you cannot manage to hold the wait for any longer, you can port your steam keys over here and enjoy the standalone client with all the stuff you already own.

EDIT: Snipe snipe snipe snipe sniped XD

What i might do is get a 1TB hdd and split 500GB for Steam and 500GB for DCS World. I am very OCD when it comes to keeping gaming drive clean and separate. 500 for steam and 500 for DCS should be enough since can uninstall steam games and also in DCS i can deactivate them which will uninstall?

That's possible although individual modules are rarely more than a few hundred MB's save for the Nevada terrain module. If you'd allow a recomendation having DCS on an SSD is great. Really cuts into the loading times.

Hi,

Sorry if I'm missing the basics but I'm new to this and finding it a bit confusing.

When I launch DCS World from my HTC VIVE system it now only starts in non-vr mode. I feel sure that the answer is something simple as all the other VR progs operate as they should. For a while the Hawk flew in VR, which was mind blowing, however, for some reason it doesn't anymore. Desperately needing your help!!!

@Mods:

Since it's a sticky the first question needs to be updated for the Steam DRM changes that you can't activate M2000C and any newer modules bought from steam on standalone.

Thx :)

Also transferred from Steam to DCS direct and the installation functioned like a charm.

Installation of all the aircraft (until the Mirage) also functioned without problems.

I know that the modules that I have (Mirage, Spitfire, NTTR) will not be transferred from Steam to DCS direct and the question that I have is:

- is there a possibility to do that in the future ( eventually for a discounted price)?

- or is the only possibility, that I buy these modules again for DCS direct?

Best regards, Willem

No and no, Because standalone has gone keyless i believe and steam uses the other one, I would either go standalone or stay steam, Thats the only choice you have to make.

Thanks Coxy; yes, I knew of this "key problem";

nevertheless, I thought: maybe there is a way in which ED can meet the customers who have allready bought these DLC in Steam and who now liked to transfer to DCS direct :)

Best regards, Willem

Its more to stop fraud, Sites sell keys on the cheap, Sell them to say me and you, We go to use the key and it dont work, With the keyless system im guessing it stops the sites getting hold of keys and selling them on.

Currently no, things purchased in Steam cannot be transferred to the standalone.

I'm a DCS Steam user, and for the first time I decided to install the standalone version to try the new 2.5 update.

I'm trying to activate my FC3 and A-10C modules, but I can't find how. Through the website it's not working and I can't find the module manager.

So, what are exactly the steps to activate the Steam keys?

Thx!
