Dear RRG and ED, still a lot of questions open and 8 days to go.

After the last video we see a lot of interesting stuff regarding the FM. For my part i never had any concerns about the physics, FM and aircrafts.

I calms me really that YoYo is involved. I have a very high opinion of YoYo and his work!

But after all the most important questions for me are open. What about the map and the EDGE engine?

I still own the Mustang and i always would buy the Dora if it comes out. I dreamed all the time of an WWII map for this birds in DCS. And now there is this KS left with 8 days and i do know nothing about this engine and the map except for some pictures. My lowest concern is that the map will not look good. :smilewink:

The main questions for me are:

1.) Will we have tree collision?

2.) Will we get dedicated servers?

3.) will you improve the netcode?

4.) do we get better damage effects?

5.) will we get windsocks?

6.) which ground vehicles and targets are planned?

7.) will the AI be more affected by damage?

8.) will the AI be able to see through clouds?

9.) will there be proper airports for the allies?

10.) which fps do we get compared to the old engine? Do i need much better hardware?

At the end one wish of me:

Please make the bigger map with south england the first stretch goal!!! First we need a good map and not so much planes.

Specially not such an exotic super plane as the Me 262 that is unfavourable for the MP balance.

greetings

to be determined by stretch goals reached, it seems the map costs alot

and remember that the game is going to be made. The original KS goal was to fund extra extended beta testing. Not to determine whether or not the game and its 5 aircraft would be completed.

Sod that - 93.2% of owners don't play MP.

*Yes, I made that number up. Point is valid though.

#9 is important. Only a properly paved airport can handle my Thunderbolt II.

I suspect the answer to many of those questions is the same as for DCS World though. It is not really a revolutionary new game engine for WWII, but a second install and a period themed GUI. As I understand, everything going on under the hood will be the same between the two.

I don't know MadTommy, one thing I've learned on flight sim forums is that there are a lot of people that really really want to be able to crash into trees.

Now that is funny.

I agree with everything but this (OK, I think I agree with things like net code, it sounds good, but I just don't understand what it's about).

If you ask me, I don't really care about the maps. I mean, it's not Arma, around 99% of the time is spent up in the air, and then the map just becomes something to look at/do dare devil low flights around. DCS being a flight simulator, I'd rather have more planes at the expense of maps than the other way around.

And I don't really care about balance either. It's a simulation, and since the Me262 was contemporary, why not? I don't want to get into some "which fighter was the best" discussion, but one of them has to be superior to the others. Maybe not as much, but still. If you make a mission and want to balance it, it's as simple as not including the 262 (though off the record, if scratching the Me 262 would mean we get a P-38 or a Mosquito, I'll change my mind and say bugger off to the Me 262 in a heart beat ;))

Question 7: I think the ai is affected by damage somewhat. This is purely based on what I've seen in some of the dogfight missions that are available online.

One personal experience as well. I ended up firing on an ai FW190 (this was online as well) however I had to end the fight as his ai wingman got on my tail.... I later saw the 190 I shot at hit the water. I figured I hit something that caused that to happen...

Question of my own: Will you prevent 'sniper'ai?

It always amazes me how many judge a 'flight' sim by what happen when they fly at 10ft above the ground!

The helicopters feel very much at home at this altitude. And we have Combined Arms. Valid reasons for ED to think about a way to make the collidable/AI LOS blocking trees happen.

True, but I hope, if this happens one day, that it won't be like in arma, touch one leave of a tree with a skid and you explode.

Dedicated servers are to come with EDGE and I´m guessing that this will include some significant improvement over the current netcode - it has to.

Visual damage effects have been on the to-do list at ED for some time if I´m not mistaken, so the P-51 and Fw-190 should benefit from that at least.

I´m also hoping that with Dx11 support the new engine will run with more fps on Dx11 hardware or at least be able to display more detail at the same fps...

well it wont be like that for sure, itll be more like hitting a building or bumping it, depending your speed, since the damage model is already millenia ahead of whatever arma has.

Priceless! :megalol:

Don't forget about the grammar. I mean, if you can't handle your letters, how you're gonna produce flight sims? :D

Whilst i agree regarding the map size, one thing to remember, this is not the only map under development. Being DCS World you will be able to fly the WWII planes on other maps.. that will be FAR bigger than needed. smile.gif

Huh!? Maps as in plural of map? What secrets do you know that we mere mortals don't??

@DerHesse

It all comes down to DCS limitations as a platform and how will it be improved in the following months. I'd say it's up to ED - to improve the elements or to authorize RRG to introduce their improvements to DCS. Only the latter brings sense to asking whether RRG is going to improve this or that.

We're in the dark right now. IMO this should be clarified ASAP.

Do you think the Normandy map is the only one in development for EDGE? We know of Nevada.. but there have been some not too subtle hints at others in the pipeline. :)

Are you talking about Corsica? That map that was developed for an other comercial customer and which runs not on standard consumer grade pc's?

Strange response to me answering your question. Maybe I miss understand you, but you come over as just rude.

Yeah. But if you insist that one has to pull everything out of your nose, well, what maps are you talking about and what hints do you speak of?

1.) They said its being tested and it will depend on performance hit

2.) Dedicated server is being worked on but its tied to EDGE as stated by a dev some time ago

3.) DCS is always improving, even if we experience growing pains now and again

4.) Yo-Yo stated elsewhere that this was on the list of things to address

As for the 262, if it's modeled to the same standards as the P-51 (which should be possible) then I think you will find that while it is a powerful aircraft, it isnt unbeatable... I look forward to the 262 just to experience its benefits and downsides...

This is going to be a Simulation. Wikipedia says:

"Simulation is the imitation of the operation of a real-world process or system"

balance =/= realism, therefore I suspect the 262 is going to be the fearsome and revolutionary plane that it really was.

Which, in this case, was apparently best done by catching them on the ground! ;)
