I HOPE so! Tough ole gal. If she's modeled like a Mustang I'll be annoyed.

Issues with a lack of data - which have now been resolved. It is still a thing, but there will be no info on a release date until ED are good and ready.

Thanks NW,it's nice to know all is well with the Jug,appreciate the confirmation

Good to hear! How/when was this stated? Was it an official announcement or a dev comment?

DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule.

In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.

The only thing I have seen is this post from SiThSpAwN

We are having some luck, but I know Yo-Yo is busy with the Spit right now.

Doesn't quite sound like it has been "resolved", but it is encouraging.

"which have now been resolved"

If true, my hopes have risen because, honestly, it sounded like the lack of data killed the thing in the womb. Still born.

A tiny amount of discussion on the P-47's fighting tactics employed by their pilots, being referred to as a "energy fighter" instead of the common belief as only a ground attacker. Unfortunately such tactics will be nearly impossible to be employed as the P-47's rivals completely out class it in the current dogfights of DCS. This will leave the P-47's distinct advantages in the vacant stratosphere.

I wonder if anyone is curious about starting an allied fighter group clan.

With the new AI units in Normandy the pig will have plenty of targets both air and ground it can outclass, especially in single player.

Hopefully once the Normandy news cycle has calmed down a little we can get some P-47 status updates.

Agreed, in lone wolf PvP airQuake it will require skill to win.

That's not all there is to do.

Get a friend, drag and bag. Intercept the Ju-88's while the Spits cover. All of A2G.

Looking forward to it all.

If it didn't require skill to win there would be a problem. Regardless of aircraft or mission type.

I saw the Normandy update video on Facebook this morning. Pretty impressive!...but I would have liked to see a couple P-47's.

Maybe DCS isn't having trouble finding information on the most produced allied fighter of the war... maybe they know it'll be outclassed in "air-quake" as some people have said... and they are just stalling... waiting on the release of some allied ai bombers to lift dogfights to higher altitudes to keep the P-47 complaints down!

Just a conspiracy theory! lol!

Well they did admit they were having troubles finding wind tunnel data.

Ah, I'm more worried about them advertising the P-47 as a ground attack aircraft. In DCS's time line(which I assume is late 1944) there were only 2 Fighter groups from the 8th air force still flying the P-47. Initially(according to kick starter screen shots) the P-47 was to be modeled with 64-65"Hg, but that extra 300hp will be useless for ground attack. So they may cut back on the extra power and model it with the traditional 56"Hg

Posted

AFAIK they use the 64"Hg on the D-30 with the -59 and normal fuel. They didn´t cut back any power. The units with the 8th likely would be using the 150octanes fuel at 70"Hg.

As with any other aircraft there were mix of different batches with different power ratings. I remember seeing razorback in some units at The Bulge that prob would be using the 56"Hg

In any case, when is extra 300hp useless for ground attack?

Posted

I believe the intention is to start modelling different fuel types for all aircraft anyway as a ME optioin. C3 for the German ones and the 150 octane stuff for the Mustang. Maybe by the time the P-47 is closer they will be far enough to have these options implemented from the get go.

In the case of the Jug I think the 9th and 12th AF used the 100/130oct while only the the 8th used the 150oct.

By the time it was in use (second half of 44) only the 56th, 78th, 353rd and 356th were still using the jugs. And only the 56th keeping them for 1945. There were 13FG in the 9th using the jug and similar number in the 12th.

I think 64hg would be appropriate as main options although 70"Hg would be a good option to simulate the 8thAF ones.
