The goal of this new delivery system is to get packages into customers' hands in 30 minutes or less using unmanned aerial vehicles.

Let's fly together for the sake of peace :)

At this point in time this is just PR. Too many unanswered what ifs from engineering and legal viewpoints.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

I think the FAA sends some guys, in suits and dark glasses, to have a chat with you. Or would it be the FCC sending them? :D

Funny ideea but be sure cannot be ever implemented on consumer areas.

Theoretically it does not need any remote command because curently there are GPS/autopilot modules on market available to any hobbyst, so an industrial stage is also available for sure. So, this thing can really do what is shown there.

A such quadcopter have a quite high price, and the risk of theft or damage cannot be avoid easily.. :)). Also wheather can play an extremly important factor too.

Still a funny idea!!!

I would become a drone pirate. I would make my living intercepting these drones and selling the amazon products on-board.

Technology wise it's definitely and obviously possible. Just is all about setting up the legal rules regulations and safety precautions for this. Would be cool though. It's funny how fast drones and quadcopters are taking off the start of the drone age as just begun and the possibilities for this technology is endless. BTW I'm sure many of you have seen this video but cool display of quadcopter drones.

Couldn't help but think of the drone delivery service from Cowboy Bebop when hearing of this.

I'm sure that losing drones/packages will happen, but I don't see that being much different than merchandise getting lost/damaged/stolen now. I think they would stand to lose far more money due to the realities of our sue happy society. One can easily see all the lawsuits on the horizon when these occasionally drop out of the sky and cause injury and/or a vehicle accident, or when it lands like in the video and Fido gets hurt by the propellers when going up to it. Not trying to be a pessimist here, just a realist - we know these things are going to happen and I'm sure Amazon does as well. Guess we'll see if they can pull it off and how long it lasts, though I agree with Sobek that it'll pretty much just be a gimmick for the foreseeable future.

Sounds familiar?

college humor - Google Is Full Of Crap

Most of such projects are not by engineers but rather marketing guys. Remember this. In case of this particular project - safe to assume it's a marketing bull. FAA will suffice to drown the idea. Then the effort to establish reliable command and control would be huge. Even if executed perfectly it would be a paradise for hackers and... predatory birds.

It's marketing, guys. They will even have a car driver following and controlling a drone just for the awe factor. Marketing knows no decency, let alone cares about actual progress.
