upupandaway Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I was a little surprised at first, reading about mid-2014 as a release date, but your explanation sounds quite plausible. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Deedle, deedle!
Raven68 Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I was a little surprised at first, reading about mid-2014 as a release date, but your explanation sounds quite plausible. +1 Thanks Azrayen for chiming in. Intel i5-9600K @ 3.7GHz; Gigabyte Z370XP SLI Mobo; G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4080 16GB 256-Bit GDDR6; Thermaltake Water 3.0 Certified Liquid Cooling System Windows 11 Professional HP Reverb G2 /TrackIR 5 in case VR dies; Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog w/ Thrustmaster T-Flight Rudder Pedals
Azrayen Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 My pleasure :) Please be aware this is just a guess from me, and me only. I have no other informations than those publicly available on those matters :) Another possibility is, as the news posted on BST's website dates back to oct. 25th, and Wag's post is much more recent, that the AFM dev is somehow progressing better/quicker than anticipated. 1

I noticed that as well, but I did ask how much could have changed from that date, to a few days ago to clip appx. 6 months off the schedule? And that's if it's anything close to that scenario.:music_whistling: Anyways I cant get upset really. This is some awesomely complex stuff to hash out and I wish I had the gift of developing these models like the ED staff. They are truly blessed to create and accomplish what they have done so far. Intel i5-9600K @ 3.7GHz; Gigabyte Z370XP SLI Mobo; G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4080 16GB 256-Bit GDDR6; Thermaltake Water 3.0 Certified Liquid Cooling System Windows 11 Professional HP Reverb G2 /TrackIR 5 in case VR dies; Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog w/ Thrustmaster T-Flight Rudder Pedals
streakeagle Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) Hi VaniaB :) First, thank you, because this from your link: ... pretty much answers my question from post #112, in confirming that airflow is taken into account when calculating AFMs. Nice one  Airflow is taken into account in the original flight model, just simplified to only one point. The major difference between the simple and advanced flight models is that the equations are evaluated for individual components and summed together... despite your interpretation of their wording, they are not modeling airflow over a 3d model, just building linear tables of aerodynamic co-efficients for multiple components. The effect of modeling multiple components rather than just a single point is that perhaps the wing tip stalls on one side in the AFM with resulting loss of lift and yawing/rolling moments, whereas with a single point model, either the entire aircraft stalls, mushing out, or it doesn't stall. The AFM permits much more "character" to be reflected in the flight model. But even as advanced as the AFM is compared to the SFM, it still may not reflect unique characteristics that would be evident in computational fluid dynamics where actual flow of molecules over 3d shapes is modeled. In many aircraft, the airflow from the wings interferes with the airflow over the elevator and rudder controls surfaces especially at high angles of attack. Most game flight models don't have an accurate way of showing the effects of this interference. In fact, most don't bother to model it at all. GGTharos Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Airflow can be propagated from component to component in a flight model. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
SkateZilla Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) Regarding the Mid-2014 Date, It's Prolly just a date that gives enough headroom. The AFM's are complex, the more it's tested and put through it's paces by SME's the better. Regarding a Full Blown DCS: F-15C, it's only a Matter of time before either BST or another Does it, Out of the FC3 Airframes: F-15C: Has a detailed External Model Has a detailed Flight Model On the Way Has a detailed 3D 6DoF Cockpit, which also is the Cockpit that's the most ready for full interaction, Connectors and Animations. All that is Missing is the Systems, which will prolly take a while to code. but that depends on the data available and personnel to whomever undertakes the system coding. I For one would love to see it happen, the sooner the better. Til then the AFM will be a happy upgrade for me to fly with. Weta43 Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Airflow can be propagated from component to component in a flight model. ...and (as GG knows but you may not) aspects of this are currently modelled in DCS.AFMs Cheers.
GGTharos Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Why not? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Pilotasso Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 From the Belsimtek website: "The estimated release date for the advanced flight model for F-15C Eagle DCS module is middle of 2014" Here is the link. I hope that information is old. I really do. Otherwise Im a sad panda. :( http://www.belsimtek.com/news/217/ Wags said F-15 AFM just missed the 1.2.7 boat which means it cant be much further out. .
Wakkaman Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Is there already a conformation they will make a clickable cockpit? I really hope so!
GGTharos Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 No, and there never was such mention from ED. It's just the AFM. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
ED Team NineLine Posted January 15, 2014 ED Team Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) No, and there never was such mention from ED. It's just the AFM. Not quite.... not ED anyways: http://www.belsimtek.com/news/217/ We are considering the possibility of creating a complete avionics model with clickable cockpit and accurate systems modeling. This would be a major development however, so a final decision has not yet been made. Pyroflash Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Huh, one of the comments from DCS said that it was their first DCS TV commercial. I wonder when it is airing. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

VincentLaw Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I liked it more back when it was Discovery Wings. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

fastfreddie Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I'd love to show my dad a full version of a F-15 module on DCS. He's pretty much worked entirely on the F-15 systems since they went into service in the 70s. Full version F-15, F-16, Apache, or modern Russian planes definitely top my list.
