...and if they were accurately simulated, they'd find out a nuke is nothing more than an oversized HE charge. You don't want to be near one when it goes off, but the "end of the world" is alarmist nonsense cooked up by activists and clueless fiction writers (or those who think "civilization" ends at US borders, since USSR had more than enough nukes to collapse that). Humanity didn't end when Mt. Tambora blew, and that was on order of 800MT, and deep underground. Nike-Herc's 20kT high up in the air is a rather less apocalyptic than that. That said, the MiG-21 has nukes as an Easter egg, and they absolutely kill performance. DCS engine is just not made for weapons with such a huge blast radius. It'd be a major subsystem with very limited utility, especially since details of nuclear delivery systems are all very classified, so they would likely be AI only, or at most restricted to the analog platforms where their operation is known. Nuke stuff is well guarded by everyone who has it, and for good reason.

Stillerkid started following Instrument Panel Brightness Knob F18- Issues
-
Hey folks, I am unable to adjust my instrument panel brightness knob in the F18. I go to move it and it automatically jumps back into a different position. I can see it moving on it's own...kind of twitches back and forth....but it won't let me me adjust it. It is almost like it has a mind of it's own, lol. I have been playing DCS for two years on the same rig in VR and no issues...all of a sudden after all the updates I have this problem, uggg. Anyone have a fix?
-
The F-14D HOTAS is visually very similar, unless the throttle has multiple inputs that force control over the radar (force pilot priority) then I don't see how controlling the AN/APG-71 from the front seat is possible. The pilot stick only changed the weapon select to mimic the stick on the F/A-18 from what I know. Do we have clear sources for that? I know it's silly to state that there's even a number over two: actual Tomcat fuselages left in the entire world unless you count museums. Even if they exist they are probably so out of parts and tech that the danger of ''advanced'' documentation is gone or low but knowing some previous decisions, law and fear will hinder that hope. I was glad and sad at the same time when the drone footage got released.

@Czech6 #1 Also encompasses "instant trim", which also works fine for spring bases, and I personally find much easer than #2 which I could never wrap my head around. One only have to centre the stick very quickly. #3 Has always been confusingly worded. I assume it got lost in translation. Should really be "Without springs nor FFB". Cheers! Carrier IFLOLS overbright…..and overlay query
exophoric replied to markturner1960's topic in Bugs and Problems
The extreme brightness of island, deck and IFLOLS ligths is still an issue on v2.9.20.15384. This screengrab was taken on Sept 28th 2025. It ends up being possible to distinguish light sources (and seeing the deck) when getting very very close, although it's almost too late for most visual corrections at that point. I tried disabling DLAA/DLSS and light bloom effects and it didn't change anything (restarted DCS each time I changed a setting to make sure it took effect). I'm in VR on a Pimax Crystal. -
Under the UH-1H Special settings are the three cyclic modes. These have had confusing descriptions since they were first published, and there have been a multitude of "expert" comments about which type of stick each mode is used for. Most of them are wrong. To clarify: 1. Default. Default is for a FFB (Force Feed Back) stick. 2. Centering with Springs. This is for your regular stick with the centering springs in place. 3. Without Springs and FFB. This is for #2, a Centering stick without the springs in place. It does not apply to a FFB. That's covered by #1. So, you have three choices; FFB, Centering with springs, Centering without springs.
-
If you plan to deep dive into helicopters in DCS, I recommend to prioritize the extension, then safe for a FFB base. I know it's expensive, but along the natural and realistic force trim and hydraulic feel, you get force feedback for telemetry events... or in layman's terms, you can feel the stick shaking if you get through transitional lift, or the onset of a vortex ring state, before it occurs, a bump on touchdown, the blades actually spinning, weapons firing and other stuff. It is definitely a game changer and with now 4 good bases in the pipeline, I wouldn't bother with investing in a clutch/friction based solution, if it's not already integrated. Just my personal opinion, but I did go through the whole path of equipment over the last decades and would skip some steps, if I had to do it again.

Funny? Tiresome is more like it.

Anyone can confirm/negate that there's problem with loading the DTC to the Fulcrum spawned from dynamic slot?

Overhead Break: Are We (Once Again) Doing it Wrong?
Cali replied to graveyard4DCS's topic in Chit-Chat
I learned the OHB from a few real pilots, plus did an OHB in a F-16 at Nellis. Here is part of the video of it.- 3 replies

Please read carefully. I wrote about the throttle rotator on MiG-23 and not on MiG-29. Please re read my post.

Wasn't aware that I had the power to block others from asking … can’t I find the need for constant developer news a bit funny? i’m no moderator, you are welcome to add me to your ignore list. again, wasn’t aware that I had the power to preclude others from asking, go ahead and ask the developers some more

SPO will still show radars it does not recognize just not categorize them and thus give them very low priority. Then there are many radars it might confuse as enemy

Cockpit retexture, for the Viper.
mkel2010 replied to Xtorris's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
Once this is installed in the Saved Games folder, how do you activate it? -
It depends. At 25 km, your radar is scanning 2,500m +/- the deltaH you have set. At 50 km this is 5,000m +/- the delta H you have set. So it may still be in radar view, or you can use TWS so that the target is automatically locked I mean I actually like it. Only limit is -6 deltaH as max down elevation. But as I mentioned actual scan can extend far fro deltaH setting. I’m not so sure. For example I have yet to find a MiG-29 manual saying to set range with wheel. And a few including the L-18 manual say to “set range with Ku-31 target acquisition slew button.” Or they just mention setting deltaH and putting TDC where you expect target.

Yeah, but this is where you "get it wrong". The doctrine went away from hovering and shooting, (sitting duck), to fly and shoot which is much easier in single player. Very easy in fact if you practice a little. Cheers!
-
There is no trick, in fact IRL GCI talk format uses relative Delta H like "higher 3" and you dial the knob to "higher 3". Overall this delta H + range radar cone steering is really relevant in maximum altitude separation and closer ranges, aka GCI or buddy aided ambushes. In "free hunt" it's more likely you'll look for max range search where cone will be wide enough.

As you know, firing off heavy missiles (HOT3 25kg, Mistral 20kg) makes the aircraft lighter and so it needs a little less collective to maintain hover. I'm guessing the problem with AI managing those collective changes while you're in the co-pilot seat is that when you swap back to pilot, the in-game collective will be out of sync with your physical peripheral... and possibly the AT pedals too.

Guns: Can't lock target while holding 1st trigger detent
AeriaGloria replied to Lixma 06's topic in DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum
The pilot literally has finger on trigger, they just need to flip it up to get full functionality. I don’t see how MiG could see this as a problem. Radar vertical scan max time from scanning and lock: 4.2 seconds IRST vertical scan max time for scanning and lock: 1.9 seconds -
Pretty sure we'll see some great updates now the SA map had a huge one with much improvement, and the main focus can be on Kola.
-
Untill they fix the AI. There should simply be a box to tick (infinite fuel for AI in your flight ) i know you can use triggers and what not. But they should just make it as easy as possible.

There are hundreds of sources of documents online aswell as youtube tutorials about HSI's. Fundamentally, all HSI's are the same in every aircraft, be it Cessna, Airbus or F-16. Just their controls or design varies slightly with different manufacturer. If you want more help you can always be more specific as to what you don't understand. But for a basic understanding, I suggest you to google a bit how a HSI works, there's plenty of material out there.
