Hello! I got my copy of DCS: BS yesterday, got some problems with setting up my TH2G then with the physics of the BS (Trim :-) ). But having the game just for one day, it´s time for me to say: THANK YOU! This is the software I´ve been waiting for since Longbow 2. Go on, I´m waiting for the Apache..... Sebastian P.S. I think, now for the first time in the last 5 years I´ve become a Fanboy1 point

I know it's not really on topic, because it's not a Black Shark video. But I thought this video that I made could interest you. I mean, it's about a helicopter, after all. Feel free to delete this thread if it's too off topic.1 point

Hello everyone. This modding community is growing all larger for each day. Private people work on their free time to bring the community awesome mods to enhance and perfect an simulator which already can seem obsolete in some peoples eyes. This is great! people even get educated in areas like graphics works, coding, 3d modelling, foreign languages etc. I have myself learnt allot since i joined the Lock On community, mostly in the graphical part as some people may have noticed. With this said i will go straight to the point. There is a little catch with having alot of modding groups wich i think can be quite annoying. Sometimes you need help in the mod making and for instance there is only 1 guy knowing how to accomplish what you are trying to do. So you have to google the net to find a website which he is at, join a forum, find a email adress and hope he replies. This can happen quite often, so in teh end you end up beeing a forum member at loads of forums which you rarely visit. Imagine these 2 people that are in contact with eachother about this thing actually work parallele to eachother on the same forum but in different mod groups. The only thing the other part would need to do is to make 2 clicks and post a post of what he wants to know to the other part, or send a PM. Another advantage with having a global mod site is that the community wich admires the work of the induvidual modders and mod groups doesent have to track 10 websites to get a status report. Alot of information can be found at this great forum, but elts face it. Some mod threads are rarely updated, and when they are updated there is always some armchair pilot at home that is making idiotic comments about it. Having a forum with loads of dedicated modders that help eachother would raise the knowledge base between us all through the ceeling over night!. So my question to everyone out there now is.... Is this an idea worth pursuing? I offer hosting of files on my domain, I have allready started on website and forums. The only thing that is needed is the interest from the community to ahve something like this. I know that mod groups have their own websites allready, and they can still keep them. But i still think it would be better to have everyone at a more local location rather than spread out like crazy over the net. Working close together will increase the quality and quantity of mods, and fast! . When the DCS series simulators comes out i think this will be even more attractive. Here you can see the site and the site idea: http://www.virtualavia.com/site And here you ahve the forum layout that i thought of: http://www.virtualavia.com/site/boards You can read a short text about the concept on the first page of the website. Hope this awakens interest in people. Best Wishes Shaggy1 point

:)1 point

Hello All, Sorry if this is a long thread, but it's also my first one here. A bit of background, I am an avid Sim fan, and I have been playing flight sims since I was 8 years old (first flight sim was on Apple IIe). I loved my hobby so much that when I turned 13 I started to save money in order to make the hobby "as real as it gets" and at the age of 27 I got a Private Pilot License. I currently fly a C-172 once a month. I played all the major 'hardcore' flight sims to date (Falcon 4.0; Lock On;Flight Sim 9 and 10 just to name a few recent ones). When I heard about Black Shark for the first time I got pretty excited - finally a "crazy" flight Sim for hardcore simflyers like me. I waited a bit because I wanted the English version, and also to see how good the sim really was on launch day. I don't have a lot of time to spend (I have a toddler at home) so that was another concern - I know it takes time to "know" this sim. So here are the questions that will help me make the decision to buy or to wait - 1. How much time do you really need in order to get this thing "started" and in the air? 2. I am running Windows Vista 32 on a 2.4Ghz Dual Core CPU E6600; 4GB of RAM and an ATI4870 512 GPU, what frame rates should I expect? 3. I haven't been reading these forums a lot but can you please tell me if this sim is really good "out of the digital download (box)" or should I wait a couple of more months for the first patch to come out? Thanks in advance for reading this and I appreciate all the answers you can give me. Itai1 point

You need: #1. FS9, or FSX, FSX Acceleration is preferable for better resolution and gfx. #2. A mid-high range computer, tileproxy works well with quad cores, but my Duo core seems to work fine....of course its OC'd to 4.04ghz! you can run it with a pentium 4, just not at higher res's. #3 A large harddrive... it would probably help to have tileproxy in a partition or spare harddrive... #4 Download Tileproxy Beta 8 and follow instructions here: http://www.edtruthan.com/tileproxy/tutorial/ NOTE: This is a tricky program to get working, and I fluked out whereas it simply worked on my machine... Some people have had problems getting this to run on Vista64bit even when following all instructions.1 point

Great work so far, man! You have made the F-15 available for a lot of people with the IFF system. Would it perchance be possible to do something about taxiway takeoffs?1 point

Only the ones that were upgraded for it - Su-27SM and Su-27UBM. But there are a number of other Flanker variants(really also Su-27 versions) that were designed to use the R-77(well RVV-AE rather) from the outset - apart from the Su-30MK exports I mentioned earlier, there is the Su-35(Su-27M) as well as the Su-34(Su-27IB) fighter bomber. I may be easier to mention the ones that aren't compatible with the RVV-AE - which would be the Su-27P, Su-27S(SK), Su-27UB, Su-27K(Su-33) and Su-27PU(Su-30) :) .1 point

Yes There is a editable table somewhere in the LRM code. u can remove all chaff from an aircraft ;). Each flyable aircraft has one entry, this symbolizes how many to remove (not how many are left) after takeoff. Why chose the numbers we did? Well we found out with original 120 chaff in the eagle, we can fly through 20-30 R-27ER, even more of them. Just fly straight and dump chaff. (There is a very good youtube-video showing this, there is a link to this somewhere in this thread I believe) 60 is still too much, easily flying straight and spoofing a full aircraft payload without defenses. 40 ok now some differences, sometimes (but not always) it is not enough to spoof an entire payload :P. Now latest attempts are set to 32 for the eagle, and we are starting to see SOME REAL difference, so the numbers arent just picked out of thin air1 point

Tactis always depends on the mission...is the enemy known? what type of armour AA etc. etc. from these intel you plan your assault...what weapons to bring, should you do a quick insertion or a more stealth approach (always use the landscape to give ur cover) Always a good idea to do your biggest threats first (AA) or (MBT)..and if possible from a far enough distance as possible..when the primary threats are neutralized you go for the soft targets....deploying your rockets from a closer distance..always on the lookout for secondary threats.....12,7 machineguns, RPG etc. And at last you use your cannon for those u missed.... Always a good idea to save a vikhr or two for the ride home...u never know Note: You can only plan for the first encounter with the enemy...from there everything can happend. Good Hunting1 point

That's a given, since the music will often shape the way the video works out. Plenty of times, however, I've gone in with a firm notion of what song I want, how the footage will fit, etc, but during the project, everything changes. You have to be flexible. As Eisenhower once said, "Plans are useless, but planning is everything." I hate it when people time their video exactly to the music. That comes off really cheesy. It's okay if the action follows the tone of each section of music (as the song gets louder and quieter, etc), but when it's too closely matched, it seems very amateurish (at least to me), which is ironically the opposite of what the creator thinks that will seem like...1 point

I have a Samsung 46" LCD HDTV and I don't have to adjust anything. It is connected to my Radeon video card using HDMI cable. It just plays fine and never needed any adjustment of any kind.. I have no clue why anyone would have any problems using the LCD HDTV with the Radeon video card. In fact it could not work any better.. the Radeon Catalyst Control panel works perfect with my Flight Sims.. and all other apps I have... :D1 point

If you take "RTFM" as bashing then you're a bit too sensitive. This word is a standing joke as well as a kind of "truth" in the sim community. Something that needs to be made really really clear for people that say they dont have any time to read a manual (dont know how this works when your into sims... but ok) is that the PDF manuals have a SEARCH FUNCTION. Highlight not meant as screaming. Just marking it more. Open the PDF and then it says SEARCH at the top. Put in a word and bang - your right on target. Very easy to scout out the parts you need to read about. Next time also just wait a bit and someone will help. Even though the first answer might be RTFM. But saying to others that they are blunt for not answering your questions when you in turn tell us that "you dont have time to read the manual" and just want to play and have others tell you the answers seems equally blunt to me. However dont be afraid to ask questions. This community is very friendly and have tons and tons of knowledge about the aviation world. Sims and RL. Just take some answers with a pinch of salt. Like said many times, many here have answered the same questions so many times it gets a bit repetitive. And it gets repetitive because so many seems to forget there is a SEARCH button on the forum as well. Just try use it a bit more and when you cant get the answer you want from that - post! ;) BTW: Welcome! Regards Alex1 point

Music shouldn't be added. It is a main skeleton of your video. If you can't prepare a soundtrack by yourself pick one BEFORE you start editing. Music should build an atmosphere, attention in proper time, etc.1 point

Dude, why do you want to fly the arcade mode when you are already capable of flying in the sim mode? Forget about the arcade mode, that is for grandmoms and console lovers:)1 point

There's no skill involved in it. You point the nose to the target intercept point and launch the sucker, then you leave. The real thing would happily lock onto the sun, a cloud, or sun reflection from a lake at this point, not to mention probably heat up the seeker to uselessness flying all that distance, IF it was cooled at all (the LA-override is supposed to be an emergency launch procedure - ie. I need to get the missile OFF the wings because I can't jettisson it off that particular rail - no pyrotechnics for it). I don't know what you're trying to say here, but the whole ET maddogging silliness is entirely unrealistic, and requires about as much skill as it takes to slice a tomato - most people will simply continue flying into them, and those who know it's being done to them will never get nailed by them. It has very little to do with anything -you- did. And no, it had nothing to do with the bomber 'not knowing' ... it had everything to do with the jammer of that bomber completely owning your radar system and thus your radar guided missiles.1 point

Sorry but you know what GG... it would be fair enough to see same kind of thing being randomly occuring (missiles not hitting where they have good firing solution) but this happens only with certain people... I mean against certain people when flying online. See I have same connection doesn't matter who I fly with or against... yet only some "uber" people get away from getting hit with this absurd luck of my missiles being just plain dumb... I don't buy this... not any more... it's not just network lag etc... it's very obvious few people have learned soe ways to actually cheat... and now I actually thought about this last night and came up with this: The only reason I love flying flight sims is because I love fighter aircraft... I respect the pilots and I admire the engineers and everyone begin involved into designing, testing, and flying one. It fils me with joy to have the oportunity to at least get some parts of what it would be like to be a fighter pilot... with this in mind I have to note that for this same passion for the REAL thing I also want to try and learn to fly in sim the way real aricraft would be flown by real pilots... and this brings me to my statement: If you have passion for aircraft and love flying and would like to experience the same then people should not resourt with some lame trickery just so they get to say "hey I killed you, you didn't kille me... I am super pilot" and this kind of crap behavious... people have the honesty and dignity when doing this. These flight sims should not be about who kills more... at least not by trickery and learning exploits of the software. Have the respect and will to do it "right way" learn to fly the aircraft the way it should be flown... there is no point in flying with 13G in turn if you've managed to do this by some exploit of the game... it's dishonest... if the real thing can't do this then have the decency not to try to break these "rules" of realism... if you're not able to fire that bloody ET if you don't have seaker lock.. then come on... don't be as lame and go.. "ah who cares.. I wanna kill this guy" This is not skill... at least it's not what being a fighter pilot is about... at least I believe it should not be... if you love flying, if you love and respect the pilots and what they do... why not try and be like that yourself? If you see you suck and not being able to get kills the "right way" then maybe you should just learn some other propper trickery what real pilots COULD do in real life... that's using tactics and simply outsmarting the enemy...but by realsitically available means.1 point

RJ is right. Pretty bad form GG. I'd expect more from you. First you turn into the piracy police on this guy, then you tell him to RTFM which is as rude as it gets.1 point

If you think it takes away from realism, consider this: The real KA-50 pilot resides in the cockpit where all pushbuttons, switches and controls are in reach of your fingertips. He can twist his head to look at the required intrument (which we can do with TrackIR as well) and then have his full field of vision to interpret what he sees, then he can reach to the control of the given instrument and interface with it by means of his hands. Here we are; computer KA-50 sim pilots. Our field of view is limited to the monitor we use and can be easily rotated by either TrackIR movement (simulating natural head movement quite well) or keyboard shortcuts or HAT switches on the joystick, maybe even the mouse. But it remains a very limited field of view in relation to what our eyes are able to see if we would be sitting in the real thing. The next limiting factor is resolution; our monitors present a lower resolution of -for example- the labels and instruments in the cockpit when zoomed out a little than what we would be able to see when we're actually in the real thing, further limiting the simmer to interface with the cockpit. These are just two examples of limits we have as sim pilots which real life pilots have much less. So its only natural to look for options to give you the overal overview of all the instruments that you would otherwise have in the real cockpit. IMHO Multi-monitor setup, TrackIR, Touchbuddy and VAC can really add to realism, but a note has to be made that its also quite easy to destroy realism with them as well. But that's really about HOW you use it instead of IF you use it. For example, if you're using VAC to control all the switches and buttons in the cockpit you can indeed argue about the fact that it would be beneficial to realism. If however you use VAC to control the radio commands in the sim and direct your wingmen, then I think it only adds to realism. Point is that with the limited environment we get on our computers we have much trouble getting all the sensory input to our brain in relation to what we would get in the real cockpit and so we look for ways to make up for that.1 point
