  1. Hi all, Here is a simple written down version of the startup procedures for the DCS A-10C. Once printed out and in front of you it should help memorizing it while we wait for the final product. :pilotfly: 3x : 8.5x11 pages http://www.sabran.net/DCSsharing.html PopovQc

  6. I can only speak to SHORAD threats, but as a Hog driver, that's your main concern anyway. A Tunguska battery typically consists of four 2S6Ms, a Ranzhir CP, and several reload vehicles. A Tor battery has a similar makeup, but being far less numerous than the Tunguska, a single 9K330 may be substituted for a 2S6M in a Tunguska battery, with the Tor taking the higher priority threats and handing off targets to the Tunguskas. Single Tors have been similarly employed in Osa batteries. A Buk battery consists of six TELARs arranged in a ring, a CP, a target aquisition radar, and a few reload vehicles. Owing to its smaller numbers in Russian service compared to its predecessor, the Kub, mixed Kub/Buk batteries are not unusual. Hope that helps! I'm working from memory, so I can't provide details on unit separation distances, but that should be enough to get you started.

  7. This is getting kind of specific but since I spent 2 hrs last night getting it just right I figured I'd share the results of the effort. I have all CH Products flight controls: CH fighter stick, CH Pro Throttle, and CH Pro Petals. I've had them for over 6 years now and they have survived multiple moves and getting knocked around by my sometimes childish tantrums after crashing or getting shot down. Anyways, they rock. The CH Throttle has a mini stick and I've really never used it because it was way too sensitive and I was too lazy to fiddle with it. Well, I finally got around to setting it up. In this case, as the slew control for the TGP on the A-10C. Amazing results! Took awhile to get it right but now the TGP slew responds perfectly to minor and large movements to the mini stick. If you have one you must first go into axis controls and assign the mini stick to the x and y axis for the slew controls. Here are my settings in the Axis Tune for both X and Y: Dead Zone: 0 Saturation X= 100 Saturation Y= 21 Click on "Use Curve" Set sliders from left to right as such: 0, 10, 20, 20, 20, 23, 27, 30, 50, 100. The result of doing this will make the TGP creep a little when you adjust the mini stick a little and move quickly at full range motion of the mini stick. Essentially exponentially the more force applied. Much easier this way to acquire targets from 20 mi out instead of overshooting by using the key commands for TGP slew or mapping the keys to a hat switch. I'm also getting Maverick acquisitions around 6-7 mi now (26-34 sec flight time for maverick from about 8000 ft). The trick with the maverick, for me, is just keeping the target in the targeting gate on the MFD after making your maverick SPI. I also always use auto pilot (alt/heading) hold when shooting maverick approaches. Anyways, for what its worth, there it is.

  8. SEE POST #34 FOR VIDEOS!!!! I just had the opportunity to spend a couple of days covering Hawgsmoke 2010 at Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho. Hawgsmoke 2010 was hosted by the Idaho Air National Guards 190th Fighter Squadron, who were the winners of the 2008 competition and thus became the hosts of this years. Since the 190th won again this time, the second place winners will host Hawgsmoke 2012. On Wednesday Oct. 13 I spent a good part of the day on the ramp at Gowen taking shots of ramp activity and arriving A-10 teams. It was pretty much heaven for a Warthog fan!! It was a very busy place, with aircraft being serviced, readied for the following days competition, landing, taxiing, parking, running up engines, etc. There was only a very small contingent of media covering the event, and we were allowed to shoot pretty much anything we wanted on the ramp. I talked to a few of the maintainers a bit but they were extremely busy....the Idaho ANG crews were trying to take care of all the visiting planes to get them ready to go the next day. The next day, Thursday October 14, I traveled to the Saylor Creek Range and spent about 4 hours watching A-10's bomb and strafe. Much has been said about the sound of the GAU-8/A cannon...I have heard it compared to a chainsaw in sound. I can tell you that words cannot really describe it, and video does not really capture the essence of the sound either. It is LOUD and very distinctive. When the aircraft fired from longer ranges, you would hear a popping or crackling sound much like a string of firecrackers...this was the sound of the supersonic rounds passing overhead...then a second or so later you would hear the actual ripping, roaring sound of the gun. Had you been on the receiving end, you wouldn't have heard anything, you would have dead before the sound got there! There were 18 teams and 40+ A-10's at the competition. The overseas teams did not fly thier own A-10's, thier pilots flew in commercial and used "borrowed" A-10's for the event. Most teams brought 4 planes, a few brought a spare and a few brought less and used one or two borrowed birds. At the range, the teams first performed a high altitide bomb drop using BDU-33 practice bombs. The A-10's flew the approach at about 17K feet and released at about 7K feet. From the ground, the A-10 is impossible to see at 17000 feet and even when they got down to 7000, you had to be looking in the right spot to get a visual on them. They then made a Maverick pass, no missle was fired, but they had to get a lock with thier Maverick. All aircraft were carrying two CATM-65 missles, one EO and one IR. In one case, I heard the pilot advise the range controller his missle would not activate in TRAIN mode and ask permission to make his pass in ARM, the range controllers denied the request. I am not sure if that was purely a safety issue as the CATM-65 has no actual motor and can't leave the rail, or if it was just protocol for the contest. The planes third pass was a low altitude bombing run with BDU-33 25 lb. practice bombs again. Thier fourth pass was a 30mm gun run at a strafing target. If they missed, they had to make another strafing run from a longer distance. After all the gun runs were complete, the planes had about three minutes to join back up in formation and make a formation pass over the range, and that ended their time. A few things I found interesting....all the A-10's I saw were C models....as evidenced by the cockpit coaming and/or the presence of Sniper pods, or Litening pods on 2/10. All the planes arrived with the two CATM-65 Mavericks, two TER's, and usually two baggage pods. Some had the AIM-9 rails, some did not. The only difference was the Davis Monthan birds that arrived with ALQ-131 pods on station 11 and one CATM-9 on station 1. The teams used a "degraded" gunsight reticule and bombing mode for the event. At one point I heard the statement they were bombing in HARS mode. I presume this means they were using the older electronics and not the IFFCC of the C model. Even at that, they were usually very accurate. We were probably 500 to 600 yards from the bomb target, but only 200 yards or so from the strafing pit. We were just slightly to the left of the gun line for the strafing pits, so we were very close...I was very surprised we were able to be that close, but its a testament to the confidence the Air Force has in the accuracy of the weapons system. I hope you enjoy the pics! They are possible due to the hospitality of the 124th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Officer, Capt. Tony Vincelli, and his staff! A 190th Fighter Squadron A-10 taxies in during Hawgsmoke 2010. Mavericks on 3 & 9, TER's on 5 & 7, and an AN/AAQ-28 Litening pod on station 10. An Idaho ANG A-10C taxies past with the Boise foothills in the background. The nose of a very dirty A-10C out of Nellis. The entire plane was sooty from gun residue, obviously this one gets shot a lot!! Another Idaho A-10C taxis past the Boise Air Terminal. A "Warthog" A-10C from Barksdale, tailcode "BD". An A-10C from the Michigan "Red Devils" 107th Fighter Squadron with the speedbrakes open. Michigan ANG A-10's taxi to thier spots on the ramp. An enthusiastic A-10 pilot from the 23rd Operations Support Squadron, Moody AFB. The Flying Tigers have arrived!!! The much cleaner of the two Nellis birds. Some planes still carry the AN/AAS-35V Pave Penny laser spot tracker along with the Sniper or Litening pods, and some do not. A Blackhawk puts in an appearance. Blackhawks and Apaches are also stationed at Gowen Field. Most of us tried unsuccessfully to wrangle a ride in a Blackhawk, or better yet, an Apache!! We can dream can't we?? BDU-33's on a TER ready to go. Another Idaho A-10 on the runway. Warthog nose art on the Barksdale A-10C's of the 47th Fighter Squadron. This is my favorite Warthog nose art. A Nellis A-10 pulls off after a pass over the Saylor Creek range. A-10C aircraft from the Idaho ANG 190th Fighter Squadron in a tight four ship over the Saylor Creek range. I was not at all surprised to find out the 190th won again...thier flying and shooting was excellent. An A-10 from the 303rd Fighter Squadron out of Whiteman AFB at Hawgsmoke. A 190th FS A-10 pulls off target over the Saylor Creek range. 30mm rounds from the A-10's GAU-8/A Avenger cannon rip through the left panel of the strafe target at Saylor Creek range. An A-10C from the 45th Fighter Squadron at Davis-Monthan AFB makes a strafing run during Hawgsmoke 2010.

  9. I have been a long time flight simmer. I have flown everything from the first Falcon on a black white screen to the entire Jane's series. The entire Flanker series and so forth. I have flown IL2 since its very first release and was a founding member of a very large IL2 Community. I was the first guy to drop an A10 model into the hacked version of Jane's F18. Worked with a great bunch of guys but without change to the flight model it was kind of a bust. I guess what I am saying is I LOVE FLIGHT Sims. I really love Military Flight Sims. I have flown some civilian stuff, but Military has been my niche. I mean what good is it to fly around when you can't blow stuff up. I have taken a long break from simming just returning less then 6 months ago. My job was a pain, and I had a severe illness that required my attention. On that note! I am a ground pounder. In IL2 I love the P47 and fly it when ever I boot that sim. The A10 is right up my alley and have come to love it more with the Lomac series. I have them all including Black Shark. To get down to it! I am really growing fond of the new DCS A10C. The graphics are a tad better then FC2, even though it's still a beta. There are some glitches, and missing items, once again, I read the forum, I know....it's a beta. Things in my opinion are off, roll rate, Mav locks, and what not. ....I know it's a beta! Overall fellas I am giving you a total thumbs up on the sim. You need to refer to the manual a lot, then you must use a lot of practical application to get it down. This is not a read the book and then fly perfect sim, it takes practice, and in that is where this sim is so rewarding. The longevity of the sim out paces the user. I downloaded the beta and after a lot of reading, configuring, practicing, and upgrading my Hardware...get into that in a minute, the sim is a total Win! Adapting to the more sophisticated systems and weapon sights was fairly quick, and very satisfying. Nothing like running a ribbon of 30 mm on a column of BMP's. The recoil really is nice when applying a strip of rounds. Starting up is great! It's one of the reason I bought this sim. There is nothing like sitting in the cockpit and bringing that beast to life. The startup procedure alone was worth the price of the sim. Landing and shutdown are right up there with is the startup. So far I haven't got into communication systems do to it's beta form. I have been spending time on weapons and emergency situations. In the quick start menu this weekend I loaded up the first one and headed out to do some damage. Took out my targets and headed for a bridge to take out. There are two ZSu's and a SAM site at this target. I had my wingy go for the SAM, I figured he would be better then me with not a lot of time in the sim. He takes two SAM hits and misses the target. I got my ZSU's. One with a MAV and the other with guns, but when I turned out from the second ZSU the SAM tagged me. Blew a chunk out of my left rear Stab, and the rudder of the right one. It also took out about 2 feet of my right wing tip and my left engine. Left engine was on fire so I shut down fuel to left engine, shut down left engine and hit the Fire Ext. It all worked great. Once the fire was out, I trimmed the aircraft and looked for a parking space. Flew it 30 ks or so to the nearest runway and put her on the tarmac. It was one of the most, if not the most remembered moment I have ever had flight simming. I was in a total sweat and getting her on the ground was just so rewarding. Total Thumbs up fellas! I have changed my video card and ordered more ram. I started with a lower end ATI video card and with all the tweaking I was squeezing maybe 15 average in just normal flight. ATI Cards seem to have a problem. I hope it works out for final release. I purchased a Nvidia card this week. GTS450 w/1GB of DDR5. It reall smokes. I have been playing full settings. I love the HDR. It does have some Vaseline moments but overall it looks good. I should have my new RAM today and looking forward to some better load times and stutter fixes. ATI builds a good card but I think the Nvidia really works with the developers. ATI seems a bit recluse. Who knows, it s a Chevy Ford argument. I am running a DUO Core ES5400 2.7 processor, overclocked to 3.7. It runs the sim awesome with no overheating issues. The sim runs fairly well on 2 gigs of ram but I would suggest going to 4. You will see better load times with terrain texture when climbing or descending quickly. I am sure a lot of that will clean up with optimizing. All in All ED I am very pleased with the Sim and if you are a flight sim junkie like me, it's a must! Waiting on the next Beta release but it's headed in the right direction. The learning curve is steep and it takes a lot of "in-game" to master, but hell that's why were all here isn't it? Greb out!

  12. OK This is posted in my A-10C Operators notes thread as well but I wanted to get some specific feedback on the airfield diagrams before I start to do more. I've attached my first sample, I'm planning to recapture the background image to get a little better detail, but can anyone see anything missing from the diagram? For those of you not familiar with these diagrams they are based on the ICAO airfield diagrams that are typically printed A5 and inserted into a pilots folder along with checklists etc. The idea based on the polls is to do one for each airfield in the game, and also separate reference tables to consolidate reference frequencies. There were some charts done at the Combat Sim checklists site for F4 and Lockon FC years ago, but as best I can tell no one has done any for BS, FC2 or DCSW. UPDATE BATUMI attached

  16. Many of the problems related to in A-10C is due to outdated/faulty DirectX installation. Just reinstall it as soon as you hit the first snag - or even better, do it before you hit the snag, that way you'll have less snags ;)

  21. It's no brainer that you're referring to my reply. I'm sorry, I didn't mean it to come out like that. That 'America' part is an unneeded direct translation from Polish saying. As for the rest - sustained! :) Referring to FAQ prior to posting a question (especially in a new topic) and posting a track is a good practice. If a FAQ&ForumSearch reminder is being taken as 'unfriendly' then there has to be some misunderstanding for sure. I hope it has been cleared up in this case. From my old notes: :book:Slave SHKVAL to DL targets There's even a reference to specific chapter in the manual.

  35. I think I found it, thanks!! The Modernized TADS/PNVS program replaces six of the current LRUs with new ones. They are the PNVS, PNVS Shroud, NSA, BSM, TEU, TPS, and PEU. Also, slight modifications are being made to other components to address other maintenance drivers identified over the years. The DSA and Laser are not being modified. The modernization includes moving to a two-level maintenance concept for the new LRUs. The Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) were being designed to allow smaller Line Replaceable Modules (LRMs) to be fault isolated and replaced, rather than the entire LRU. The basic configuration and outer look of the M-TADS/PNVS is almost be identical to the current system. The PNVS shroud looks different, because it now has two sensors, the new FLIR and an Image Intensification Sensor (basically a built-in 18mm NVG tube). The pilot is now be able to switch between the two sensors and to fly using the one best for the existing conditions. Complete provisions were included to eventually fuse the two images. The shroud is broken into two LRMs (shroud and window), making removal much simpler. The current W-10 harness is being replaced with a two-piece design. The new FLIR has a much better image quality than the current system. It has 4 pixels across and 480 pixels down (4x480), compared to the current common module 1x180 configuration. What this means is that the system has much better wire detection and marginal weather performance, at least 20/45 visual acuity, compared to the previous 20/80

  38. Put Shkval gate close to the target, it should snap to the nearest threat. Keep in mind it doesn't have to snap always - if it is darky it won't lock target. Also common gate size for vehicles is about 10 meters, be sure you have that size.

  40. First few more shots of the actual setup (color is bit off on the photos) Left MFD Right MFD EDIT: Monitors behind MFD's are YN8088AV 8" VGA AV TFT LCD Monitor 2 in 1 that I got from HongKong for US$228 from website www.alibaba.com. They are VGA monitors and require VGA port on video card, or you can use use adapter (DVI-VGA adapter). Currently I have them using DVI ports ports of secondary video card HD4890 via DVI-VGA adapter. I also have HD4670 video card, which is a budget video card and I cannot really see much performance difference using either one of them as secondary video card to run these 8" monitors. Later on using GPU-Z utlility that when sim is running this secondary video card is actually not doing any work and GPU utilization is normally at 0 (zero) with occasional "spike" to few percentages... I came to conclusion that secondary video card is only serving as by-pass and it does not matter if this video card is slow or fact.. as long as it has ports to connect the monitors to, it is alright (I would not however pair ATI and nVidia card together, but rather use same brand for main and secondary video card). So this is how I got it working with DCS A-10C Beta 2 (Beta 1 was still bugged about multi-monitor setup so it did not work very well at all): First you have to enable secondary monitors in video card drivers... chose "Extend" and I have them se to 800x600 which is their native resolution (which is what gives them best image quality as each physical pixel on the monitor matches pixel on the image). My main monitor is 24" with 1920x1200 resolution small monitors are 800x600 and bellow shows how they are arranged in Windows In Beta 1 to get MFD image working on secondary monitors I had to set a "ghost" image above, since I have monitors only bellow the main monitor and main monitor has to be in the "centre" of the total resolution. With Beta 2 adding this "ghost" monitor resolution is no longer required. The total resolution you need to set in game now is simply adding the resolutions of the monitors as arranged in video card drivers (again see image above) So, my main monitor has 1920x1200 resolution, the 2x 8" monitors have 800x600 resolution, therefore for me with this configuration I get: Height = 1800 (adding 1200 pixels of the 24" main monitor labeled 1 and 600 pixels of the 8" small monitors labeled 2 and 3) Width = 1920 (width of main monitor only as there is nothing on the sides) Therefore, in game options I set 1920x1800 and ratio will be automatically set. In game options chose MFCD monitor setup, and now you have to manually edit LMFCD+Camera+RMFCD.lua file (use Notepad++ to edit the file) which is located in ...Config/MonitorSetup directory. Mine looks like this: To interpret the values use this: The "X" is the starting value where the image will be drawn in horizontal The "Y" is the starting value where the image will be drawn in vertical The width specifies how wide the image will be The height specifies how high the image will be Now, looking at the image above the small monitors are bellow the main monitor. This means their starting location in the Y axis is going to be height of the main monitor (ie 1200 pixels) but this won't be completely satisfactory as, since monitors are not square and are larger thed MFD's you need to adjust for the space hidden behing the MFD's... this has to be set by trial and error individually... and values above will not work for everyone unless they are using same resolution of the main and secondary monitors and their arrangement is the same... and also it depends where the MFD's are physically placed. I hope this will help others thinking or trying to get MFD's from the sim displayed on secondary monitors. EDIT: Today I bought Active Displayport - DVI Converter and I am now running all 3 monitors off HD5870... no need for secondary video card now 24" main monitor connected to Displayport via this adapter 2x 8" secondary monitors connected to DVI ports via DVI-VGA adapter At first I thought any Displayport - DVI coverter will do but nope... it has to be Active one (taking power from the video card Displayport or from USB port). Also framerate is no longer capped at 30 FPS like I had before EDIT: I ran quick mission to give idea of FPS I am getting with my setup (all 3 monitors running of HD5870) and you can see chart bellow... note the dip in FPS to 0 for some 8 seconds was an ingame pause I had... I get those sometimes regardles if I run single or multi-monitor... also I capped FPS in game to 39 FPS... time of FRAPS benchmark is 10 minutes Motherboeard: Asus P5Q-E CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 o/c to 3.8GHz Video: ATI HD5870 (core 875, mem 1225 MHz) Sound: Creative X-Fi ExtremeGamer PCI card HDD: OCS Vertex 2 120GB SSD RAM: 2x 2GB Corsair DDR2 1600MHz O/S: Windows 7 Home 64bit

  47. I made a guide on how to do this (it assumes basic familiarity with the training material, but you can jump in it from there) and threw it on youtube as per request: It's not gospel on how this is done, but the method I'm using seems to work pretty well. I like the fact that you can store target data in flight plans.
