1. ~S~ Greetings all, Following in the wake of our DCS:Blackshark cockpit trainer, I have recently finished a "beta" version of a cockpit trainer for the A-10C. This should allow folks to familiarize themselves with their new virtual office when they don't have time for a full gaming experience. But lets get right to the reason for this post. I present to the DCS:A-10C community our Cockpit Familiarization Trainer. A-10C Cockpit Trainer

2. hello guys, the references lights i have been using for lights : if it is a completely different type in kamov 50, tell me. some of the references i have been using for the weathering effects. bucic, the choice of a weathered cockpit is an artistic choice, i know that some, would prefer a brand new one, but as i used to work in modelling, in my mapping work i like to work this way. 3D is cold and by using theses scratches and "paint retoutch" i have the feeling that the pit looks more alive. keep in mind that most of the time in flight you look at theses details from a certain distance. it is important to increase a bit the scratch and weathering detail to have a global perception of them when you are flying the kamov. Keep in mind that you are looking at still shots, i am flying with this pit for monthes and the feeling is really different. "To be honest I didn't like one of your previous works as it looked like taken from under water and covered in flour afterwards." mmm, bulcit wich pit are you talking about? i will take a fresh look at it .:smartass: thanks for all you comments, and i understand that with the high level of price that this addon will be released some of you could be quiet demanding...:D

3. I had the same issue, it also said device detection error, also under W7 64 Ultimate. However, when I uninstalled, unplugged, then reinstalled in vista comp. mode (I think I picked SP 1 instead of 2) as admin it installed fine. Before that, I already had it working with TARGET so you might try that. The only problem is that you cant use your old profiles (as far as I know) so thats why I persisted on getting foxy and the control panel to run.

4. Yes I have tried to install it using this http://www.cubpilotshangar.net/page105.html still doesn't work. I created a system restore point before I installed the cougar also I'm having an issue with installing my cougar on windows 7 64-bit. It installs just fine, but if I try to open the cougar control panel it gives me an error :( "device detection error... E2: Ensure that the device is connected and working properly." If I unplug it and plug it back in it says device not recognized, this is the second cougar that has done this to me. If I go into the control panel, it doesn't show up in there, it says unknown device :( How did you guys get yours to work with windows 7 64-bit?

5. One of the discussion points I seem to find myself getting into lately is how will DCS:A-10C or future DCS releases effect your experience if you try to fly additional aircraft or previous DCS aircraft. A reoccurring point is that as more and more aircraft are released one must choose which aircraft they want to be proficient in. That trying to learn the systems of all aircraft would drive you crazy and it would be rather difficult. I've thought a great deal about what would motivate "player adoption" of a new product. Are they generally interested in the aircraft but still fly the old, do they just want to support ED, or would they drop even thinking about the older aircraft and fly the new one 100%. Now obviously we don't know whats next, but chances are whatever it is, there will be some major differences from whichever aircraft we do have. Even though the primary mission of the Ka-50 and the A-10C is Close Air Support, the two aircraft are polar opposites in their design and implementation. Tonight I flew the Ka-50 for the first time in months. In addition I was armed with weeks of A-10C muscle memory and practice. I honestly thought I would get in the cockpit and be totally at a loss with the systems or easily crash the thing like many times before. Keep in mind I'm no Ka-50 expert, I still use the "cheating" auto start, I've never quite figured out how to datalink target info to another player, and the only ABRIS functions I know how to use are zoom and suspend waypoint. In comparison I went from having a vague idea on how the start the A-10C to doing it without any help in just a few hours. For the Ka-50, I literally only know how to deploy weapons, a few basic tasks, and to turn on 3 switches if the weather is cold. Yet, to my surprise and delight most of it came back to me rather quickly. Yes I fumbled with the switches alot. There was abit of me pressing a button on my HOTAS several times as I frantically looked around to cockpit find the switch that I kept on flipping. At points I starred at my abris as I pressed my coolie hat switch or data management hat switch wondering why the menu wasn't changing or the map wasn't zooming in or out. But once I sorted my memory out I started to really enjoy flying it. Apparently the Ka-50 lacks the A-10Cs Missile Warning System, please make a note of that. So I started playing with the ABRIS while RTB'd back to base for repairs. I soon realized that my keen interest in the A-10C has led directly to me wanting to learn more about the Ka-50 so I know how a Ka-50 pilot can interact with an A-10C pilot and vice versa. Who knows, maybe I'll learn how to start the Ka-50 up properly, more likely I learn how to datalink targets to friendly Ka-50s and how to use the ABRIS to find longitude and latitude coordinates for me to radio in to a squadmate flying the A-10C. Honestly, after flying A-10C a TON, I didn't think I would come back to Ka-50 with any sort of enthusiasm. Yet here I am, wanting to learn just a bit more about an aircraft I never cared that much about before. Cheers.

6. Sorry, I was not correcting nor arguing with your point. You have a good one. I was simply agreeing with Cali. Cheers

7. Thanks, mvsgas. I'll readily concede that I've never flown in a fighter, and that each airplane is different. I was really just reacting to the folks that think it's preposterous that a pilot can feel or hear things like that. There are a great many airplanes where the sounds and sensations aren't nearly as subtle as they apparently are on an F-16.

8. Ya know, the more I read about how good the Warthog is, the more INFURIATED I get about how TM RIPPED ME OFF with the inferior Cougar. I have had all kinds of troubles with it that should never have been if parts and manufacturing were of a quality comensurate with the price. TM: you fecking OWE me a Warthog HOTAS for NOTHING.

9. It's hard to get through with this decalration. Maybe it needs a third version already ;) Please re-read my posts. I've never talked about brand new RL aircrafts. I only talk about exaggerations. We'll see :) Is it my nick name so horribly deformed? I talk about some Su-25 cockpit mod. Maybe it was not done by you. But the love for the chisel, scratches and pastel colors was the same :sly:

10. It used to be - that is to begin with they kept the Su-27 designation and then just added a suffix to differentiate them....examples: - Su-27P single seat interceptor (for airdefence forces - no A2G capability) - Su-27S single seater with A2G capability (for regular airforce) - Su-27UB twin seat combat trainer - Su-27PU twin seat interceptor/trainer - later "Su-30" - Su-27K single seat deck fighter - later "Su-33" - Su-27M single seat multirole fighter - later "Su-35" - Su-27IB twin seat strike aircraft - later "Su-34" ...etc. But then they changed the designations as indicated above and things started to get silly :D - e.g. they made a multirole version of the Su-27PU/Su-30 and named it Su-30M, then offered it for export adding a "K" for "commercial"(or something). Since the configuration of Su-30MK aircraft depends on the requirements of the customer country, it was necessary to add yet another suffix to indicate this. That would be the latter - Sukhoi is the design house, while Knaapo and Iapo are production facilities. In Soviet times Knaapo built the single seaters and Iapo the twin seaters, but now Knaapo is also building two-seaters(e.g. the Su-30MKK for china was built at Knaapo) - I guess the reason could be that Knaapo is the largest facility and that while the number of single seaters far outnumbered the twin-seaters in Soviet times, it seems to be the reversed for present day export orders.

11. Да, четвертых много погорело. Но говорят, это из-за использования вектора. Встроенные ИК диоды подсветки много жрут, и от нагрузки перегревается чип. С клипсой якобы таких проблем нет.

12. hey, nobody is being negative around here, its just constructivist criticism. Nobody is forcing RICARDO to make those changes, its his mod, and as you said, he's releasing it for free.

13. I have the same problem, but i don't understand your fix above? i use the pinkie button as a modifier in game, but if i use a profile i am unable to use the pinkie as a modifier...I don't understand the "delete the columns in the profiler regarding SHIFT modes. then clear the pinky switch programming". My pinkie button in the profiler is Blue, and i cant see how to free it up... Can you explain this again for me.. :idiot: EDIT: never mind.. i switched to 'grid view' and you explaination made sense.. excellent.. this has opened up much better HOTAS options for me.. (if you delete the mode 2 & 3, these become programmable buttons too..nice) thanks. I use another button on the throttle as a modifier (D) and use the main hat with it for the MIC switch.

16. I think this cockpit is looking amazing, weathered buttons and all. I disagree with bucic. I think if he wants a cockpit done his way, he should do one himself. I like the way this cockpit is progressing. Besides, this is your cockpit Ricardo. You are the Artist. Do what you feel is right. Those buttons for the CM are looking spectacular.

18. First of all, hi to everybody and specially to Triggerhappy69, you rule! I have been reading your post and the evolution of your cockpit building for a long time (when i can get acces to internet lol), but never posted until today. Soz :P So today i have just registered in the forum specially for writting in your post and congratulate you for your work (i'm helicopter engineer in real life and your skills are great!) and also try to solve a doubt that i have for some time since the idea of building my own cockpit is on my head: With the boards from opencockpits, how do you do to use toggle switches? I mean, isn't a problem for you to have continous current flowing throw all you switches when they are closed? Sorry for my bad english and for haven't posted until today, i should have done it before! Best wishes from Menorca, small mediterranean island.

19. I am not sure if this has been posted before as it has only been out a couple of months. I searched and didn't find, but if it has already been posted, my apologies to those who have seen it already. Really takes hold now that many of us have been doing some aerial refueling. http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123216494 I noticed the last two threads I started have been moved. No problem with that at all, its just I thought if it is about the A-10, it should have been where us A-10'ers can see it. Like as much as I love aviation in general, I have once focus and that is the A-10, not the Su whatever or the F-16. But, I am learning, being new to this forum. I'll go and see if there is an area that gives some guidelines about posting new threads and the areas where they are supposed to go. I do appreciate immensley the amount of work that a moderator does. So thanks guys and (gals?) ARE THERE ANY OUT THERE?

20. Something for 2000th post :) Shadows performance test - Active planar vs Full 210 KB A note: A relative difference of 200 on the graph means 20% performance hit for Full shadows. Conclusions: - I was wrong :D - full shadows do cause a significant performance hit of about 15% of average FPS - for big cities with lots of buildings the hit increases to about 25 % - the smallest difference noted for lowlands with few buildings - performance hit when looking at more than 10 helicopters with full shadows enabled not observed http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1031629

21. Does tietze have Beta1 perhaps? Anyway, I tied it again at 25% joystick sensitivity. Still the same and I was so stable it wasn't even funny. It's got to be something in the setup. Set the tanker for task refuel, going about 212 KIAS at 10,000'. Fuel door open, fill disable switches flush, disconnect on override. I walk up at about half a knot all nice and pretty. Connect.... You're taking fuel, disconnect. Last two happen nearly at the same time.

22. I did the same. just delete the columns in the profiler regarding SHIFT modes. then clear the pinky switch programing. (make sure it's unassigned). BTW - do you have any idea regarding the MIC hat? I've got TMS\CMS and DMS\TRIM on stick and COOLIE\SLEW on the throttle and the slider is the CHINA switch. I can't figure out were to put the comms.. toggle switches on stick?

23. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit here, no problems at all. Cougar and Foxy work fine. Also, doesn't matter if Anti-Virus (AVAST) is active or not. This is the 4th time i installed the Cougar and software on Windows 7 Ultimate on 3 different hardware setups (CPU, Mobo, RAM and GPU) and everytime it worked without a problem. So something else is playing up but what...? @ Cali: Do they work under XP?

26. ALWAYS UNPLUG THE THROTTLE BEFORE AND DURING A REFLASH !!
1 point
27. Uninstall the Software and manually delete the 'HOTAS' folder in the install directory. Reboot. Thereafter download the 64-bit software from here - http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=50&cid=1 Now unplug the Cougar and deactivate UAC in Windows Control Panel. Navigate to the .exe file downloaded from Thrustmaster and right-click to select the 'Properties' tab. Important Step: Go to Compatibility column, in Compatiblity Mode, mark this and select 'Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)'. In bottom mark 'Execute this program with Administrator permissions'. Click OK. Run the .exe file and follow all the prompts, ie plug the Cougar in when asked etc etc. Reboot. That should be you done - One file installs all drivers as well as Foxy all at once. Run Foxy and confirm that all is well.

28. It sounds like you need to reflash your Cougar. To reflash, unplug the Cougar and while holding down the trigger, plug the Cougar back in. This will force a reflash. After that, Windows should recognize the unit and you should then calibrate it.

29. Have you ever thought, why ED have no competition? Where are Janes, Falcons, even Fighter Ops? They are gone. And we are talking on ED Forums. Modern combat jets are extremely complex objects to simulate. The simulator is required to have a rich environment, complex mission planning tools. And being a modern game, it requires to have some non-trivial level of graphics. Multiplayer code have to deal with extremely fast moving objects and big network delays at the same time. Sound engine should deal with vast open spaces, hundreds of sound sources. And so on. We even do not have an option to buy a technology. Nobody produces commercial grade libraries which will fit into a flight simulator. However we use many utility libraries (mostly open-source ones). And in the end the product will be bought by a relatively small number of people. Game studios, who use much more simpler technologies and licensed game engines, will consider our sales figures an epic fail. That's why.
