  1. Avatar 72's helpful acronym list http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61313&highlight=acronym --inspired me to make a powerpoint file to enable me to quiz myself as a tool to help me on the learning curve. I'm posting it here so that it might help others...and maybe inspire others to add to it or help me improve it so that it might become more useful. This humble file is merely intended to help the learning impaired among us--like yours truly-- to get and keep up to speed with all the bits of essential info needed to fly and to check comprehension of a reading of the manual. As I go through the manual and training missions, I've added on slides piece-meal. This is a WIP. There are only a few for now, but I thought it might have potential as a learning tool as the file grows in size. It might be a useful supplement to our reading... Cheers to all. And thanks to Matt W and all for making life fun and interesting. ~Moosh http://www.mediafire.com/?owq26win4d8pb29

  2. I thought I would release the beta version of my airfield diagrams for DCSW as the charts are at the point where I need to print a copy and then work my way through the airfields to get the rest of the detail right. The radio frequencies, elevations, directions and measurements should be accurate with the mission editor the F10 view and the A10C's internal MAGVAR. I'll do the release as a separate thread to the design discussion to avoid the release getting lost in that thread. I'm working through tower placement and taxiway labelling in addition to points of interest however a lot of the Russian airfields dont have the taxiways labelled which complicates the matter, I'm thinking it may be worth waiting until the DCS release prior to revisiting this. I've also added references to the ADF's from the BS manual and if the interest is there I will release a Russian air force version with Metric measurements once the maps are finished. If anyone picks a bug or has some reference notes for the airfields let me know. UPDATE: Updated airfield name plus some error corrections For those of you printing this, I recommend printing in color to A5 directly, as the map lines blend better in color then gray-scale, however you can print 2 per page on A4/letter Airfield Diagrams.pdf

  3. I felt compelled to share a great moment I just had in the Hog. I just keep on finding things in this Sim that make me smile and this was one of those times. I was flying Grimes "On Station" Single Player Mission, and was tasked to take out a Surface to Air Threat. I got the target coordinates from the AWACS and put them in my CDU and was on my way to earn my combat pay. Around 12NM from my steerpoint I find a group of 5 vehicles and start checking them with my TGP. I think one fits the profile of a SA9, so I begin working to put a AGM 65 D on it. Just as I pickle off the Maverick, I get a warning tone on my RWR and find a 15 with a circle around it and I immediately know I have a problem. The spike from the SA15 is not coming from the vehicle group that I am currently engaging..."shit...where the hell is he?" so I break to put him on my beam and put my head on a swivel....looking.....looking, my wing calls mud spike...and I'm thinking "Yeah I already know that" and then I see the first launch trail and the warning klaxons are sounding but he is not tracking me, so it must be my wingie..We both break and dump chaff and extend away from the engagement envelope....Thank God for the TrackIr, as I am able to keep a "general fix" on where that SOB is. The missile from the SA15 misses my wingie and I am already turning and re-centering the Maverick seeker head and bring it on to the area I believe the SA15 is. By the time I find him I am roughly 8.5 NM from him and luckily I get a lock on him at 6.9NM. "Eat this" I say under my breath, and off the rails she flies! I break left and turn to enjoy the show out my right window and to my surprise the SA15 launches another missile, and then another, and then it happened. The first of the salvo of two missiles drills right into my Maverick while it is two thirds of the way to its target. I cant believe my eyes, but I just watched it happen! The Maverick is no more, and the second missile is tracking me! I tried to jink and evade, extend, but the math was not there, and the jammer was not burning him out...the 2nd SA15 missile exploded just aft of my right engine nacelle and that was all she wrote for me...I radio'd my wingie to engage that SA15 with missile and after I hit the last F1 the game crashed to desktop. I wish I had the track to show you guys but nevertheless, it was a great moment that Im sure I will be having many more of in the future. Thank you Grimes for the great mission, THANK YOU DCS!!!!

  7. You in theory should not fly without all the autopilot modes. You can temporarily disable all of them by holding the trim button down. That is what I do. The preferred method however, is to press and release, press and release, press and release, press and release, press and release... get used to it if you want to use this method. ( which is what you are doing now )

  11. If you have a 64bit OS you can use more than 4G. True, unless the app/sim/game you're using is 64bit, it won't use more than 4, but it's good to have your OS outside of the 4g that it can use. In experimenting I installed Crysis32 on Vista32 and recorded about 50fps average. I started 2 other games (EVE Online and Arma2 I think) while running Crysis32 and it went down to about 20fps. I then installed Crysis64 and Vista64 and was getting about 70fps average. I started 5 other games and 20 browsers and still had 70fps in Crysis. See my earlier post about system config.

  13. Well I recieved my throttle finally today. I am now back to flying the Shark and I am loving it. As you can see by the pics, I simply mounted the throttle on the side of the pit vertically. I have done this since I started flying flight sims and I totally recommend it if you like to fly helicopter sims realistically. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us

  15. THIS IS ALL THE INFO ON THAT LINK. Shhh... don't tell NaturalPoint or they might stop working on their 64bit software ok? There is a workaround for enabling full 6DOF TrackIR support in the 64bit DCS A-10C client. It's a bit of a kludge, but as far as I can tell it works flawlessly. You'll need: tir2joy ( I guess these are downloads from the internet ) PPJoy Run the PPJoy installer and be sure to follow the instructions to enable test-signed drivers (you should see the text, "Test Mode, Windows 7, Build XXXX" in the bottom right corner of your desktop). Run the PPJoy Joystick and Gamepad configuration utility ("Configure Joysticks" in the PPJoy start menu group) and click Add, and then Add again to create "PPJoy Virtual Joystick 1". Simple enough, now close the configuration utility. Run tir2joy.exe and leave it running in the background while you fire up DCS A-10C 64bit. Now it's just a matter of mapping the appropriate PPJoy Virtual Joystick axes and you're finished. The attached image shows how the axes looked for me but yours may be different and require some fiddling. Enjoy!

  16. I think some give and take is needed to maximize the potential of what you are trying to accomplish. As an added enhancement to a feature in the game its great. However, teamspeak is used for much much more than a VOIP for a single game. Its a place to hang out or to see what your friends are up to. Its not uncommon to be in a TS channel where others are playing a game and I'm either playing a different game or on a different server or doing something else entirely, yet a conversation still exists. A strict rules that TARS follows is great for those in game, but not so great for those out of game. Ideally there needs to be some sort of workaround to disable the requirements completely or at different levels. Having both a normal transmit keybind and a TARS transmitting keybind would be one solution. Where normal transmit overrides everything and the TARS transmit only communicates with other players using TARS.

  18. Coming back on topic, ZoomBoy27 is right: The ability to add INU fix points has simply been removed from the Mission Editor interface. Given the simplicity of a solution I figured out during the last 1 1/2 hours, it's probably a simple mistake introduced in 1.0.2. Could one of the interface coders elaborate? So, here's a possible fix. Since it requires editing of configuration files, be sure to read the Black Shark User FAQ, specifically the part about --CONFIGURATION FILES--. Do create a backup of any file before editing. That said, in your Black Shark installation directory, navigate to the subfolder BlackShark\modules and open me_map_window.lua. Locate the following code; it should begin on line 1979: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- function creatingINUFixPointState_onMouseDown(self, x, y, button) if button == 1 then --unselectAll() local lat, long = mapView:getMapPoint(x, y); if not isInMap(lat, long) then showWarningWindow(cdata.placeInside) return end local group; if base.panel_aircraft.window:isVisible() and (base.panel_aircraft.getView == 'helicopter') then group = base.panel_aircraft.vdata.group; else return; end; local x, y = mapView:convertRadiansToMeters(lat, long); pt = base.module_mission.insert_INUFixPoint(group, lat, long, alt, group.boss.boss.selectGroupColor, x, y) base.module_mission.update_group_map_objects(group) mapView:updateUserList(true) base.panel_fix_points.vdata.selectedPoint = pt; base.panel_fix_points.update(); return else panState:onMouseDown(x, y, button) end; end; Replace the code block by this: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- function creatingINUFixPointState_onMouseDown(self, x, y, button) if button == 1 then --unselectAll() local lat, long = mapView:getMapPoint(x, y); if not isInMap(lat, long) then showWarningWindow(cdata.placeInside) return end local group; -- Begin Yurgon mod: -- Re-enable adding of INU fix points -- This breaks editing of existing INU fix points -- if base.panel_aircraft.window:isVisible() and (base.panel_aircraft.getView == 'helicopter') then -- group = base.panel_aircraft.vdata.group; -- else -- return; -- end; group = base.panel_aircraft.vdata.group; -- End Yurgon mod local x, y = mapView:convertRadiansToMeters(lat, long); pt = base.module_mission.insert_INUFixPoint(group, lat, long, alt, group.boss.boss.selectGroupColor, x, y) base.module_mission.update_group_map_objects(group) mapView:updateUserList(true) base.panel_fix_points.vdata.selectedPoint = pt; base.panel_fix_points.update(); return else panState:onMouseDown(x, y, button) end; end; This solution makes it possible to create INU fix points again. The downside is that it breaks editing of INU fix points; when the INU fix point window is active, the "EDIT" button has no function, it's as if "ADD" was active. There's probably a simple solution for this, but I'll leave it for someone else to figure that out. :-)

  30. Updated shark hog profile (run from script editor now) **edit** small bug in fuel switch function found and squished ;) please update your TMC file with the one from the RAR file Here is an updated version of my BS Hog profile.. Change log v1.1 Additions --------- I have added functions (mostly to aid manual start-ups), since in BS most of the switches are stateless, (i.e. Same button controls on and off states), there is no way to determine the state of a switch at game launch, so for these controls I am assuming cold start. If you start with engines running or airborne, then my advice would be not to operate the engine controls as they will work back to front, (or worse as they manipulate the switch covers as well so you may see some craziness). If I can figure a way of reading button state at launch I can fix this. (switch controls also open/close switch caps) Throttle flaps control now controls throttle (Up-Idle, MR-Medium, DN-auto). I have not added a “full” as AFAIK it’s not often used. I can change this later if necessary. Fuel L/R NORM/OVERRIDE switches now control engine shutoff valves. (Before mission start make sure switches are in “override” position). ENGINE OPER switches now control both L/R engine governors and L/R engine cut-off valves. (Before mission cold start make sure switches are in central “NORM” position). UP (momentary) – open engine governor switch flap, activate engine governor, close flap. Down – open engine cut-off. (Switch stays down. Move to mid to close cut-off and flick up to disengage engine governors at shutdown. APU Start – (start in down position) UP – APU Fuel shutoff open. (You must manually start the APU as normal). DOWN, stop APU, close APU fuel shutoff Modified functions ------------------ TMS –UP lock target. Removed PULSE command so now holding up will allow unlock/slew to finely tune target. SHKVAL View. Having spent a month trying to control the shkval with the slew control I have given up. It’s just not accurate or sensitive enough in this sim. I have moved fine SHKVAL control to the coolie hat. It’s stiffer but by god it gets the job done better. I recommend using HMS for rough aim then Coolie hat for fine adjustment. Spotlight slew– moved to slew control Trim reset. Removed from H1-up-long. It was interfering with longer trim usage and is not modelled in the RL BS. Plus you can manually re-trim easily. China hat tracking gate resize. PULSE command removed for faster gate resize with held position. Boat switch. Added basic logic to tighten up control; Aft – target reset (cage shkval) Mid – uncage shkval (if it isn’t already) / wide FOV Fwd – narrow fov Now you can start with it in any position and it will act accordingly. To do..... ---------- As I learn the sim more, (or re-learn in my forced A-10 hiatus), especially cold starts, I find tying the hog throttles switches to engine / fuel switches is a real help. I am avoiding dual virtual switch control from a single real switch as this would be cheating ;) LASTE – path/alt/alt-hdg switch. Not sure what to do with this. I could try and ‘A-10-erize’ it but the fact is that the shark and hogs AP mechanisation is very different so I don’t see any point. Suggestions welcome. I hate a wasted switch! USB codes so they work on any nationality keyboard EAC on/off - Currently set to MASTER ARM as I like a proper “thunk” when I arm weapons ;) It may be more realistic to set this switch to the ‘K-041 targeting/navigation power switch’. As I use ‘Jojo's Black Shark Profile for Thrustmaster MFD Cougar Pack’ for my mfd’s, I don’t really need another MASTER ARM switch Rotor brake – I keep forgetting it in the cockpit. I may map something for it, but as it’s only used once..... The HOTAS is for often used vital commands and the rotor brake does not qualify..... Changelog v1.0 Abandoned TARGET GUI and converted to pure script Accompanying Macro .TTM file for enhanced readability Higher res JPG reference image Changed cannon to TG1 Added LONG commands to add functionality to H2 for gun / ammo commands Added H1 snap views (**still testing this) Flight director toggle on Mic switch with other AP modes Added logic function to control pinky switch for external lighting regimes; · Pinky forward, activates combined landing/take-off lighting mode · Pinky aft activates formation / night time lighting mode · Pinky centre simulates FENCE check lighting, (all off) To do... Now I have got my head round scripting and conditionals, I will code throttle fuel flow, engine oper and APU start switches to control similar in shark to facilitate cold starts. I am toying with adding quick interior lighting. nvg lighting commands to LONG commands in H3 to control (cockpit light, NVG lights, Panel lights & Backup ADI light) I plan to convert all the assignments to USB codes so they work on any nationality keyboard i have my eye on the flaps control and think it would make a good throttle... As usual, if anyone has any suggestions, please PM as I may miss something obvious! Cheers Coolts (many thanks to Nicu, Dimebug, Teej and others on the forums for guiding me in the right direction) BS profile.rar
