Heresy! Mirage 2000 and aV-8B Harrier are fun and complete (enough) modules I'd recommend. Great single player content bundled and available.

I hear it's possible, but it won't be as fun. Get the VKB pedals to accompany your VKB NXT. They are great pedals and both rotary and fixed wing will be a whole new experience.

I find the TID a bit dark also. I hadn't noticed until recently, so perhaps it's changed. I also find that every time I toggle TID repeater the brightness seems to reset and I must turn the knob to max again.

Because casual players $90 is just as valuable as hard core players $90 and in all these sims from DCS to MS Flight sim, casual players out number core players and pay the bills. Core players however visit the forums and petition hard for their desired features or strict compliance much more vocally. What I don't understand is why they believe everyone must play the game/sim the way they do. Every time accessibility style features are added, the potential customer base increases. Players like myself often start out with some accessibility options enabled, then disable some over time. Players like myself (which are the majority according to ED itself) regularly use the auto-start feature and rarely do in flight refueling because real life prevents long play sessions. Starting an F-14 takes about 15 minutes to startup and align INS. Refuelling takes about 20 mins, yet the average game session (according to ED) is 25mins. A lot of people just want to have fun and are willing to pay for it. I want to see as many options as possible so the most people can enjoy this game and all flight sims. I want them playing with mice, keyboards, gamepads until they upgrade to HOTAS. I want them starting easy and trying more challenging things over time. I don't want a tiny exclusive club setting up barriers for others. Don't be afraid the developers will waste precious time on things you don't want. The will do as they please and what helps them pay the bills.

Tracked and missed, or never tracked and just flew in straight line? Mine never tracked or turned, though I still presume due to missile prep.

I was surprised to find lack of existing posts on the topic. I think the reason is that the current system is 'just adequate'. My main issue is the realistic simulated weight flight model combined with current 'unlimited' behavior. It spoils training with realistic weight behavior and a few things like vertical landing become impossible. Many solutions ranging from simple to very detailed are possible for both end user and developer.

@Warmbrak Understood. Even if this post were about cheats and casual players, which it is not, I appreciate the dedicated simmers who care about attention to detail and realism which makes DCS very unique.

Like clockwork... I wanted to keep the post positive and avoid near necessary disclaimer for this forum: We know there are players who never use these 'cheat / training / assistance features. They don't want anyone else to either, and most of all they hate the idea that devs could waste time on them. If you don't use these features, this thread is not for you, please discuss features you do use in other threads. EDIT: I do respect your passion for realism and for the product. Thankfully the directors of ED knows their paying customers better: "The average time a player spends in DCS in one session is 25 minutes" Simon, Global Business Development Director, Eagle Dynamics. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRKL0yZHvwg With limited time, players can take advantage of all these assistance features to train or tailor their experience to meet their needs.

The unlimited fuel and ammunition settings are undoubtedly useful for simulation and training assistance. Unfortunately they have a frustrating flaw... they fix the weight of the aircraft throughout the flight. With unlimited fuel, it is impossible to dump fuel or consume it in any way except jettisoning tanks. With unlimited ammo, a dog fight or landing is always with full loadout. This means a AV-8B Harrier for example, cannot land vertically with full load of fuel and weapons. The work around of refueling at mission start to reduce fuel load is neither complete nor practical. I propose a change, where the player can select WHEN/IF to re-arm or re-fuel during flight instead of it being always and all the time. At the very simplest, a way to turn off the feature in flight would be helpful. The interface and implementation details can be left to the smart developers, but I'm sure you now understand the issue.

The other day while playing with missiles I fired 3x sparrows at a large STT locked target 10nm -> 3nm away, all 3 just flew straight ahead. Yesterday I played a mission and fired a single sparrow that guided and hit target correctly. I chalked my earlier experience to noob pilot error but am not sure what I did wrong. I think if the missile prep has not completed the missile won't even fire. I did double check STT.

{ ED INVESTIGATING } MFD Text and symbology messy with latest update
DimSim replied to Foogle's topic in Problems and Bugs
+1 for poor MDF readability. 1440p with SMAA here, text is flickery and shimmery except zoomed far in. Hard to read and hard on the eyes. -
Latest patch has some new keybindings. Confirmed Red and Green radio channel +/- actions.

Wondering the same.

Arresting Hook Handle (special) - reversed?
DimSim replied to DimSim's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Thanks, that worked. I notice that modifies the game files. Is there a way to modify files in the Saved Games\DCS folder instead, so changes will persist past updates? -
I tried binding the 'Arresting Hook Handle (special)' action to a 2-way switch on my Virpil throttle. It appears to work as two way On <-> Off with hook extending or retracting. However the behavior is the opposite to what I expect. The F18 hook extends in Off position and retracts in On position. This is the opposite to F14 and all other 2 way special bindings I've used before (in other modules). F14 has 'hook extend, else retract' (which I use) and also 'hook retract, else extend', which is the reverse like F18. It makes sense to provide both directions to account for logical On direction or physical button mounting or movement. Forum search shows numerous mentions of 2-way hook, gear and other requests. Please add those combinations or fix this one if it is unintentional.

Just tested with some random instant actions (blur setting low)... F-14B air start - no sign of blur (tested twice) F-14A ground start - blur from jets Huey ground start - blur from engines So blur is there for me, not sure if all airborne jets are affected. Try a ground start to compare with my results?

Just confirming kirk7312's repro. Set to Player or Client, with AV8 set to Runway or Ramp the aircraft starts forward on deck of Kuzentsov. Set to non player, the aircraft starts in correct location but is naturally unplayable. Strangely some 3rd party single and campaign missions work correctly now, which did not with the previous bug of similar behavior.

With helmet sound the engine is so quiet for me, I use the external view to check my engine is running.

No advice, but I encountered the same problem. If I slewed the Mav too far, I couldn't find a way to reset it. Un/Re cage didn't help. There is a 'slave' option, but I think it works the other way, with TGP pointing to Mav sensor target.

Thought I'd share my IR Maverick with TPOD sequence. Since the sim changed and docs did not appear up-to-date, I experimented and wrote this down. Would like to hear any criticism or improvement since it's pretty complicated. IR Maverick with TPOD sequence: 1. AG mode (to select AG weapons) 2. TPOD powered (STBY -> On) 3. Set IR mode CCD or FLIR as desired 4. Stores, Select IR Mav. Starts warmup SBY -> RDY (Warmup can take 3mins, won't uncage) 5. Clear target if needed 6. TDC Down to select initial location OR cycle waypoints to get near target 7. TDC pan to locate target 8. Select Pt, Mt, Area as desired to assist targeting 9. ESCD Desig to enter designate mode (DESG says TGT) 10. Hold Next Waypoint Long (WP 0 now is target, DESG says STP, can cycle waypoints including target) 11. SSS Aft points TV (DSEG says TGT) 12. SSS Down 2x to select TPOD 13. Stores page (needed to uncage) 14. Uncage (U on HUD beside IRMV, MAV IR view on MFD) 15. SSS Fwd (to control maverick) (See IRMV on HUD right with box around it, MDF has boxed IRMV also) 16. TDC Down to lock target (periodically if needed) Observe Mav cross hair locked, may lock automatically with good contrast 17. Master Arm On (IRMV stops flashing on HUD) 18. Weapon Release Repeat launch with: 1. TDC pan to next target No need for TDC lock, but if desired, to ensure TDC: SSD AFT (control target, switches to TV) SSD Down 2x (to TPOD) 2. Uncage 4. SSS Fwd to control Mav 5. TDC Down to lock Mav 6. Weapon Release

Your story is almost identical to mine. I recommend the Mirage 2000 next, to compliment your Air to Ground with more Air to Air focus (though retaining ground strike) in a very complete and fun modern-ish jet. When you've got the basics, be sure to play the included campaign by Baltic Dragon, it is most immersive.

You can bind Speak Red and Speak Green. I have then bound to two buttons on HOTAS. You can't currently bind Channel +/- or number key shortcuts. The actions you want are: Main U/VHF Radio SELECT <- Green Aux. UHF Radio SELECT <- Red

+1 P-51 in single-player, active pause, not normal pause Map: Normandy, The Channel System: i7-4790K, Nvidia RTX 2080S, g-sync No overclocking CPU or GPU DCS: 2.5.6.59625 nVidia: 460.89

I used to get this *sometimes* with UH-1 Huey. Recently I've seen it happen with the F-14 Tomcat rarely (possibly around the carrier ie. on take off). However I just bought the P-51 Mustang and it's happening all the time. Very annoying. The UH1 and F14 typically flashed the black full or partial (ie. 3/4) screen like peoples videos show. The P-51 sometimes flashes just top half the screen or top quarter yellow, like a big stretched texture. Othertimes it's full screen but always seems yellow-ish. EDIT: Perhaps I should have posted in this thread as the OP's description is closer to my current issue of P-51, yellow flashes over Normandy map. It does not seem to occur when game is paused, but with Active-Pause I can reproduce when flying P-51 and panning view in particular direction. It looks like this: RTX 2080 S No overclocking on CPU or GPU. No driver tweaks. Am using g-sync. Does not occur in any other game. Room has AC and temperatures are okay.
