Glad you got some more frames. By all means this was meant as a starting point to get you in a spot where you are achieving realistic or high in your case frame rates. At this point you need to do what I do. Get in (I use the Huey as it stays close to the ground where performance is usually worse) an aircraft on marianas preferably (as all other maps with the exception of South Atlantic will be less demanding) and start flying a specific route. Pick a spot on the route to measure performance. Decide what you want your minimum performance to be (in VR mine is 45 fps) and keep dialing up settings you want to have (more clouds etc..) until you hit that minimum fps on that map. This should ensure you are usually getting above that minimum and more. As an example, I average 55 fps near the ground and 70-90 in the air (4k VR) which was my acceptable limits. It takes a lot of trial and error to find your exact balance. I like having further visibility, others prefer less of that and nicer clouds... etc... etc.. There is no one solution fits all. When I first got the 3090 a few years ago I cranked all the settings (not efficient to run some of these together but I just wanted to see what it would do) at 4k (2d) and it really showed that even with top end hardware DCS (and flight sims in general) will really humble your setup. Having flown flight sims for around 30 years now I guess that has never changed.

I would try the following: Set your Monitor res properly (as suggested above) SSAA: off SSLR: off SSAO: off MSAA: 2x (you could probably do 4x if configured properly but start with 2) Anistropic: 16x (this barely makes a hit on GPU I find, might as well crank it) See how the above effects your FPS to start then: Civ. Traffic: Decide how much you like this as it can take a large hit on your CPU (call draws which could prevent your CPU from sending enough info to your GPU) Heat Blur: Do you really want this (I never cared for it much as I'm in cockpit 99.9% of the time ) Clouds: Ultra (ooooo those do look pretty but do eff with FPS) Then Shadows: Like clouds, they're pretty, but can make a large hit. If you can find enough FPS improvement in above you can probably afford to start bumping things like scenery details and forest visibilty. Personaly (in VR) I bring Forest details down as lower poly trees look almost as nice as the full poly trees. Hope that helps. We haven't touched on other factors like do you have any software running in the background like discord or other tray apps that are eating CPU cycles.... Lots of guides on line. DCS will take some time (as will any flight sim) to help setup properly for your rig. We must have been replying at the same time... good catch, he said he had a 1440p monitor. You are basically rendering wasted pixels... That alone should afford you big gains.

Wishlist for potential planes after JF-17
trevoC replied to J-20's topic in Deka Ironwork Simulations
Q-5 looks cool. Would really like some more redfor ground attack platforms. My dream would be a full fidelity su-25 but I know that is a challenge. -
Although I can't wait for the release of this map I have to agree with some that the WWII maps look cartoonish and over saturated. A reference photo of the region is not a good representation either as most of those are also over saturated as some people believe this looks better. I can't stand the trend in over saturation of photos but I digress. I think the detail and scale of the new map is epic and seriously can't wait for campaigns in this region but I do also think it looks cartoonish.

I think if you want any decent answers or solutions (unless you are just griping which happens here often) you are going to have to at least post a screen shot of your graphics settings page. That would be a start. I have quicker hardware than that and can make DCS do single digit fps if all the wrong settings are enabled. On the flip side I can get 80 fps in 4k VR with the right settings. Post a screenshot and members will have a look.

[RESOLVED] Mission fail at mission #02 (Airferry)
trevoC replied to derelor's topic in P-51D High Stakes Campaign
Flew this mission first attempt with 10 or more minutes to spare, but the mission won't give me a success rate, just draw. Never received any messages during flight that I did something wrong (only proper f10 prompts) and got a message to park near the truck on landing. I can't get much closer to the truck without crashing into it and I don't receive a "mission success" message. I finally quit and got a draw. What am I missing? How does this mission complete? -
HMS (H) BS2 vs BS3 - Head Targeting Reticle
trevoC replied to trevoC's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark 3
Silly question then, I always initiate my camera with the H key and then holding down to find the spot I want to target (can't remember the name because its just bound to my hotas) How do I initiate the camera etc... when on NVG mode? I guess there is no way to quickly move the targeting cirlce to where you are looking, I have to just slew? -
HMS (H) BS2 vs BS3 - Head Targeting Reticle
trevoC replied to trevoC's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark 3
Do i have to do this every time I start? Seems like the targeting reticle would be the better of the two as a default helmet unless maybe at night which few missions are. I'll try this though, thanks for the input. -
Hoping someone can help. In BS2 if you press H you get the targeting reticle which you can use to aim In BS3 if you press H (also with the actual switch on left console) it seems to turn on a night vision mode. I can't seem to get the targeting reticle. Any help greatly appreciated.

need track replay TRAINING MISSION: Carrier Taxi and Takeoff
trevoC replied to trevoC's topic in Bugs and Problems
Here are two screenshots and the track file. First, There is a floating aircraft in both shots.... It's not an F-35 soooooo, just figured I'd let you know. First Screenshot is my A-hole of a wingman. In hindsight after replaying it, I moved forward and then paused for a moment to continue listening to the instructions which pushed the wingman and then he just kept coming. I could probably just move quicker to the launch bar but that isn't how I naturally played it the first time through. Figured you should know. Have you ever seen a "blur" in an airliner? I've flown many types of piston and jet aircraft and never experienced this. I think your perception of what flying fast feels/looks like is far from reality. For reference, 100 knots at 10,000 feet feels like you are not moving at all and literally suspended in the sky. The further you reference point is away from your aircraft the slower it will make your aircraft seem. I promise you, its just fine.
-
a lot is going to be preference. first of all, the f-16 would not have any of this feel as it barely moves at all. In this case, winwing is the only company I know that sells the pressure sensor kit for the orion. If its all about the f-16 for you, buy that. Personally, I feel the orion2 (without extension) is fine as most aircraft don't have a strong centering action or it would be tiresome to fly approaches etc.... Other aircrafts centering action comes alot from the forces acting against the ailerons/elevators if they are not hydraulicly assisted for example. You'll never get it right for a broad range of aircraft like are available in DCS. Its always going to be preference. I prefer the less centering action like is available as stock but it would definitely be too little with the extension which is why the cam kit is available... to set the joystick for your preference.
-
He means the cam kit and yes... get 1 or 2 cam kits and you'll have too much centering strength if you like.

Wondering if you have any advice for this mission. I've had scores well over 150 (unit scores)... I start by wiping out the artillery with guns to save weapons and then the convoy, but there is always one T-somthing (55?) tank that seems to be invincible. Won't even take damage for some reason and the campaign goes to mission failed state well before the ka-50's arrive. I've wiped out every unit in the 2 advancing convoys except that one T-tank. On top of this, my wingman will never engage anything regardless of the orders given so I get zero help here. For some reason on 1 try out of 10 or so he started engaging the last tank on his own with rockets and bombs... all of which missed (or the tank is invincible like it seems to be) any advice would be greatly appreciated.

need track replay TRAINING MISSION: Carrier Taxi and Takeoff
trevoC posted a topic in Bugs and Problems
As soon as you move (to taxi to catapult 2) your wingman also moves and then turns into you damaging your aircraft preventing you from completing this mission. -
Although we could all argue about the best menu type (jester like or not), I think a quick key binding allowing you to move up and down the menus and select as the OP suggested would be a nice quick fix for us late night VR users.
-
I think the idea is that you can not have to use your mouse. bind a joystick trigger to left and right mouse click and then look at the switch and click the binding. Also, (I dont't do above) you can look at the switch and then without wildly moving your head, use the mouse to fine tune the mouse cursor. This is how I do it. Haven't had any issues personally. I just look in the general direction of the switch, pause my head movement and use the mouse to click the switch and then look away.

Thats <profanity>ty, but it just isn't my experience. All of the "tweaking" was not to get around anything other than finding the balance that my system can offer me. I don't have any different experiences in any other VR software either. Other than these forums, I just don't think about performance in DCS at the moment. My setup is running a solid 45-85 save a few outliers like the ww2 mission with 100 bombers when they drop their load... that doesn't play well, but I've finished 3 campaigns in the current setup with no major issues. The toughest was UH-1 in huey at marianas where there were 2 moments with a lot of AI stuff happening where it was a slide show for about 10 seconds while I was on the ground.
-
Totally get where you are coming from but thats what the graphics settings are for. If I can run VR on HIGH/Ultra settings and get 45-85 fps there is tons of room for improvement. I can't speak for everyones setup but I have little to no issues with updates or performance. Yes, it took some time to get it right, a straight install with high/ultra would probably net me 25-35 fps but it is pretty easy to achieve much better results with openXR. If your setup can run openXR i can't recommend it enough. I do realize that for many it would be nice to just boot up and work, but every minute of setup time pays off divedens in the future. I don't even think of my rig and I haven't for ages. Just boot and play. That being said, I did spend a while chasing fps to get it just right, glad I did because I was medium/low settings to get above 45 fps prior. DCS is no worse off in my case than MSFS is. They're flight sims. No sooner than rigs caught up to flight sims in ultra 4k along comes VR to raise the bar <sigh>.

will it have FFB from the initial release (early or access I presume)?
trevoC replied to peachmonkey's topic in DCS: La-7
Interested to know if you've heard of anyone running this with an extension? was looking at this online but am worried that with the extension (extra leverage) it may not be enough feedback, or maybe I'd damage or wear the motors too much. btw... my wife is about to hate you. -

i find it strange that there are not more ffb options. I had a ffb stick decades ago with multiple options. Why are there no options now. I find it strange.
