  1. good point... my bad... @BIGNEWY@NineLine could this be moved to the correct area?
  2. First and foremost, most, if not all of the locations I'm about to suggest have been suggested in the past at one point or another. The point of this is to discuss potential locations, and the time frames to be modeled. Finally, none of the locations I'm about suggest would be modeled in their current day forms. The reason for this is both due to technical reasons (some of the locations have a large number of detailed buildings that will drag frame-rates to a crawl), and political reasons. With those bits put out... off we go: Location: Carribean Year: 1962 Reasons: in 1962, this region was a potential flashpoint for the Cold War. Outside of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the potential US Invasion of Cuba had the Cold War gone hot, players could perform modern incarnations of the CMC, as well as Counter-Narco missions, Maritime Patrol, SAR, Mass Evac, Location: Adriatic Year: 1955 Reasons: Although the map year would be set after WW2, the Italian Front was a major part of the Allied war effort in WW2, laying the foundation for several historic battles. During the Cold War, the countries east of the Adriatic were all under the control of the Soviet Union, making for another potential flashpoint for the Cold War. Being set in the 50s, or even the early 60s, would allow for the majority of the airbases and airports in the region to be capable of handling modern jets. Location: North Sea Year: 1960s Reasons: Like Italy above, this was a major potential flashpoint during the Cold War, and during WW2, there were several battles that took place. You have a potential the Eastern Front, as well as the Allied Air Raids on Berlin. In the Cold War you have the Berlin Airlift, or a jumping off point for a Third World War scenario. Most importantly to fans of the AJS-37 Viggin, this would be their playground. Location: Korean Paninsula Year: 1976 Reasons: One obvious reason is a reinactment of the 1950-1953 Korean War, with the Saber and Mig15 squaring off. As well as high potential for more modern jets performing border patrols near the DMZ. Given the proximity to China, this could also be a flashpoint for any conflict with China. For WW2 buffs, the potential for running "Operation Downfall" is also present. Location: South China Sea Year: 1969 Reasons: Other than the obvious (Vietnam War), there's a potential for combat actions between the US and China/Soviet Union forces operating in the area. With the right WW2 kit, you could also recreate the battles between the French forces and the Vietmin, or part of the Allied Campaign to retake the Philippines. Those looking for a more modern approach, some of the natural Paracel Islands were present, so possible modern amphibious operations could be conducted. That's all I've got for now. What do you guys think?
  3. Right here: https://forum.dcs.world/forum/455-a-10ca-10c-ii/ It's not a wish section, but there's most likely someone that would be willing to make the livery in question. There's also the DCS Livery Discord: https://discord.gg/y8MdfMZH At that Discord, there may be someone also willing to take on the challenge, though you may have to pay someone for it. If that's not an issue for you, there's plenty of talented livery designers that will gladly do it.
  4. Wouldn't this be better as a livery request?
  5. Believe me, many have been calling for assists to help with AAR, but there's usually someone that comes in here and basically goes "GitGud", even when the suggestion/request is just a visual aid to help a person get in the right position.
  6. So, I'm wanting to create a spawner that allows for an aircraft (or flight) to spawn at an airfield, and patrol a designated zone, but at the same time I'm trying to limit how much is in the mission at load time. I'm also wanting some AAA and SAMs to spawn in particular zones in random points within those zones, but with a limit to how many are in those zones. For example: Two AAA Sides in "AAA Zone-1" "Red Fulcrum Flight-1" spawn at Kobuleti and patrol "Red Airspace 1" Does anyone know how those are supposed to be done in MOOSE?
  7. Probably the best thing that ED could do is add more assets that are used by assorted insurgent groups. They could make some additional infantry models that are more "thematic" than specific. For example you could see some dudes in black outfits and tan 'boonie caps', which look close enough to be VC, but could just as easily be an eastern themed PMC member. Other assets that could be added could be small RIBs, which can be used as some sort of patrol boat, a pleasure boat in need of help, or, with the help of some scripting, a suicide boat. They could also add some COIN equipment, such as MRAP vehicles, like this:
  8. Shh... The super-sim nerds will start seething enough to boil the oceans I completely agree. Though it would be nice if the teams could get more aircraft out in a more rapid time frame to make this viable. For example the F-15 ACTIVE as a combat aircraft instead of a tech demo, or the Super Tomcat '21 project. But, the main problem will forever be those that demand the sim stick to only the aircraft that were built and saw active service... and the unit in question has all of the relevant data available to the public blah blah blah.... To them I say: Just because it's a simulator, doesn't mean it has to stick to only one set of aircraft.
  9. The F-3 Demon would be an interesting addition to DCS. But for best results, you'd not only have to make the aircraft, but also a series of assets like the period accurate carriers the Demon launched from
  10. I think the point might've been missed here. I'm aware that the licenses they have are likely limited, however, this shouldn't preclude them from being able to negotiate for more. Also, many of the aircraft that they have, even if they can't be made into flyable assets for DCS, could still look decent as AI-controlled assets. This shouldn't necessarily stop them from developing a campaign in DCS. If I remember correctly one of the available Hornet campaigns is supposedly a blend between AC and DCS as it is (wild scenarios, cinematic action, but realistically simulated). Also, developing a map with the tools and resources they have wouldn't be a bad thing either. They have experience modeling real-world locations after all, not just Strangereal. Personally, I wouldn't have an issue with them doing Strangereal, for those that love both franchises, I imagine such a map would sell like hotcakes.
  11. Jeeze... those guys get any lower and they'll be picking up aquatic passengers
  12. Exactly. Just imagine what that team could bring to the table in the form of DCS Modules. We could easily get some very detailed maps, some unique modules, AI assets, and so much more. And they certainly have the people to make it happen. And given that they already have agreements with the major manufacturers, they could certainly get us some toys that people have been begging for. But hey, the worst they could say is "No" right?
  13. My theory is that it could all be packaged together, like with the F-14. For example, buying the F-16 module would net you the F-16C that we already have, which comes with all of its bells and whistles, as well as an F-16D for training, and an F-16A for those that want a simpler F-16 since much of the modern Avionics our C has, didn't even exist when the F-16A was first introduced. But, outside of the appropriate setting, someone flying an A going up against a C is going to have a significant disadvantage.
  14. The reason for that is because it would require a completely different flight model to accomplish. I do get the desire, but operationally, the F-15E doesn't operate without the CFTs since that's where the Bombs are mounted. Other nations may remove the CFTs when operating their versions of the E in a pure Air-to-Air role, but currently the USAF does not. Now, I know someone will undoubtedly go on Google, and pull up pictures of USAF F-15Es taking off without their CFTs, but these are usually test flights, done after some serious maintenance was done on the plane. Now, all of this said... I do agree that having multiple versions of various aircraft would be nice. Personally, I wouldn't mind if we had an "Introductory version" that's just a step above FC3 is right now, but compared to a FF aircraft, is still considerably simpler to operate than the other. This could either take the form of a very early version of the aircraft (like an F-15A, F-16A, or F/A-18A), or it can be like the FC3 planes are right now, with a few extra features added to prevent premature balding (like being able to manipulate the farking radios).
  15. Can you imagine the Sunday Funday missions with them? A mission where a dozen or so DC-3s have to snake through the mountains and avoid fighters in order to deliver 'product'
  16. Another thing to remember, is that the DC-3 is still in use to this day. Mostly as a puddle-jumper aircraft, but some military's still use it, or hold a stock in reserve for light troop transport duties
  17. I know that it's possible for ships and SAM sites, I do it all the time to simulate them being 'jammed', but they won't do anything in that scenario anyway. I do like the idea of missiles being fired and exploding before they hit though.
  18. I was wondering if it's possible to script the AI to target a player, but not actually shoot at them. Something similar to Red Flag irl, where the radars will target the trainees, but they're in no real danger (Just, "Oh you didn't evade? go home and take the night to think about why you died"). The reason I'm asking is because I want to include such a thing in a training mission, and I'm not sure how to do it.
  19. It really depends on unit SOP, and the Tower of the field their taking off from. For example, if a bunch of F-16s stop at a Civilian Airfield for a required break, and are only able to get going again during a busy period for that airport, the Tower may clear them for a formation-like Take-off just to clear the 'traffic jam' sooner, if that units SOP allows it. It may also depend on the weather conditions at the time as well. A few years ago at MSP, a bunch of F-16s were taking off from there heading back to Duluth. The weather was cloudy skies, and the winds were certainly noticeable. They weren't allowed to do a formation take-off, and could only do singles, but the tower did clear them for departure as soon as they were lined up and the guy in front of them was off the runway... And I'll tell ya... that's not a take-off you just see... you feel it too.... Photos for proof
  20. Oh yeah, this is not meant to compare and contrast. I'm very well aware of what the AC Franchise is, and I know many here are probably sharping the pitchforks for merely suggesting what I did... that said... I'm actually looking at it from a purely business standpoint. AC7 just crossed 5mil units sold (for any game, that's a huge milestone), and if even half of those people (assuming none of them have heard of, let alone played DCS) gave DCS a shot, I'd estimate anywhere from 20-40% picking up a module. But, that's one possible avenue. One other possibility is the amount of work that could be saved with such a partnership. But... that's my thinking. Who knows what others may say. Hopefully, the conversation stays civil
  21. Now, before anyone starts getting up in arms, I am not asking for a "realistic port" of the CFA-44, X-02, ADF-01, or any of the other super-planes. And I'm not asking for any of the Super Weapons either. What I am asking for, is for ED to maybe reach out, and see if it's possible to have a major dev help out with some of our background units. As I'm sure many of you are aware, many of the AI models right now are... well... they aren't up to the standard of any of the player modules. And I think this is an area where PA could seriously help out. Replacing many of the older models with ones from within the last AC titles wouldn't be a bad way to go. Another possibility would be that maybe PA could add a map, maybe even a paid one. Granted, the maps in the AC titles aren't very big compared to a DCS map, but they are very well polished, and if they could put that effort into a DCS map, who knows what we could get. Heck, we know they're capable of modeling our world (Assault Horizon and Infinity are set our world after all). Maybe they could do two versions of one map... one that's fairly normal, and one that's post-planet-fall. Who knows. But at the bare minimum... I'd like to see if their guys could make some missions, and of course, some liveries for the planes we have in game... who knows, being a Japanese based company, they may even be able to get something like the F-2 or F-1 into DCS, as well as some modern Japanese Warships and ground assets... But hey, I can dream, can't I? And what's the worst that can be said by either party?
  22. I'm aware. I'm talking about making the examples listed part of the base game.
  23. ... well.... their Military versions anyway. As many of you undoubtedly know, various military's use civil aircraft frames for a variety of roles. Most common is VIP Transport. Examples include the VC-25: null These 737s used by the RAAF and Polish Air Forces: And this A-340 used by the Algerian Air Force: Now. Those are the easy ones. But many civil frames are also used for Electronic Warfare and AEW duties... Such as, of course the 707 based frame used in the E-3: The E-8 J-STARS: the RC-135 Rivet Joint: And... this... thing... null But these aren't all. Multiple air forces have repurposed civilian aircraft to serve as AEW, ES, EA, and refueling aircraft. This Gulfstream was converted into a Electronic Surveilance Aircraft by the Italian AF: The RAF took the Comet, and extensively modified it into the Nimrod family of aircraft: The Swedish Air Force also had the Saab company build this AEW: And way more. Now. I know many are reluctant to have these aircraft in DCS, due to the fact that ED isn't too comfortable with us killing civilians. But this thread isn't about the civil aircraft. This is about their military counterparts. Sure, many of them could be dressed up to look like airliners. Something I could theoretically do right now with the C-130 (since Lockheed does make an airliner variant of it). But I think deep down... many of us want these aircraft in the game because in actual conflicts they're present, and considered major assets by the side using them. Something worth keeping a sharp eye on. I know that for ES and EA aircraft, their capabilities are highly classified. But even if their raw functionality isn't present, I still think having them in the game would be beneficial to mission creators. Does anyone agree?
