Reverb G2 Cross-eye issue?: Did you return it?
Brainfreeze replied to Brainfreeze's topic in Virtual Reality

Many have reported issues with DCS and cross eye alignment on the G2, for some it is good while for others it is uncomfortable... Has anyone returned it to HP for replacement? If you did then curious to know if the problem was solved or still there with the replacement headset? I had to use the alignment tool in DCS for mine and considering returning it...hence the question.

VR vs a very large monitor with TrackIR
Brainfreeze replied to Sparrow_1976's topic in Virtual Reality
I used a 3 monitor setup. 27'' central and 2x 24'' (one on each side). So gave a 'curved' cockpit view. Personally, I found the cockpit interaction with TrackIR a bit frustrating and frankly having 1 monitor or 3 was not that much of a difference in terms of experience. I did not want to go to VR because of the need to have sharp / crisp graphics for cockpit and spotting and headsets did not have a sufficient resolution for that / graphic cards were struggling. When the reverb G2 came out I made the plunge and glad I did. Transformed the experience, made cockpit much more practical/useable, made easier flying and off course the 3D and total immersion. Had it for a couple months and have not gone back to playing on screen once yet. We also have a quest2 but I find the resolution to be too low on it for my comfort. It is good but you effectively trade graphics for immersion with it which I did not want to do. Hope this helps. -
It will depend on cockpits. For me I can't use the INS panel on a mirage without zooming on the Quest 2. In the harrier, the MFD is also not readable without zooming most of the time (reflections etc). most of the other stuff is normally pretty readable. It is not super sharp but clear enough.

asking myself the same question

Quest 2 versus Reverb G2 : My experience
Brainfreeze replied to Brainfreeze's topic in Virtual Reality
hehe...thks for these tips...did not know about the nifty Ctrl+Pause Ok tried again with M2000 guns guns guns... right I can see/spot like you. I get 40-80fps. Not sure where to turn ASW off so left as is. funny that in oculus link graphic prefs my slider's max reads 1.5x but is at the same resolution than yours...anyways. I think you will enjoy the G2 ... u gonna be king of spotting. Seriously it is much sharper on the G2. (BTW I have visib range at extreme). Also I find the G2 is much more comfortable. The Quest2 (stock strap) hurts on the forehead I find. -

This AlpineGTA ... will try this and report back. BTW... to save me time...how do you take your screenshots (key presses) and what do u use to display fps (I just have the Nvidia overlay but not gr8 and not showing in VR headset)? Thks -

Am with you there. Fps doesn't really matter as long as it stays smooth -

Hey AlpineGTA, so when you get your G2 check out what Pride37 and dburne summed up in this thread Setup is more involved with G2 but once done it is great. Happy to help you with overall settings if you find yourself into a bind. Important to know is that DCS deals badly with the G2 cross eye alignment and so, for comfort, check out BigNewy's cross eye alignment tool in the forum... swap top and bottom and maybe make left and right symmetrical. After that it is all about finding the right shaders to use for best visual enjoyment. One thing I cannot do properly with Quest 2 is spotting planes and it is a breeze with the G2... that is a very important part of flying DCS and numerous posts in here complain about the spotting side of DCS. -
Question about the VR section of the updater: In the application settings tab under VR interface Applications I see oculusVR client and SteamVR client (I have a quest 2 and a WMR Reverb G2) but the oculus has a ticked box next to it and the SteamVr has an unticked box next to it. I cannot tick/untick any of those... not sure what I am supposed to do there and how do I instruct to use one and not the other? anyone knows?

@baltic_dragon, been flying this 2nd mission and my wingman got lost... We have to drop our bombs on the C130 but I went first, destroyed it and then instructed my wingman to engage primary... guess primary does not exist anymore because he went wandering around the region aimlessly. Also some comm missing after that... should get a call (from awacs?) re bandits incoming but only got the message to report sighting

Hi VampireNZ, not sure what specs and settings you got so difficult to help but have you tried Taz1004' better trees mod for caucus? I use it (dark version) and do not have this pb (and trees look a lot better!). Post your specs and setting though if you want an answer

Oculus is gatecrashing my DCS sessions!

Thks Krupi for the tip. works indeed -
Agree. Pride37 and dburne summed it up perfectly.

Weird. Got to do with settings. I have i7 and 3080 and DCS never goes 'not smooth'. Normally runs 60-90fps but never noticed when it drop below (I only play single player so far). And I have DCS setting high pretty much everywhere. but no MSAA and PD @0.8 with SteamVr setting at 70% resolution. Happy to compare more settings if helpful. PM if needed

Really? don't see that in mine... I get an indication of the IPD when I move the slider but nothing like in the video where he adjusts left and right moving a green bar with his controller (I do not have controllers though). Am I missing out here?.
-
Not hearing that about the G2 controllers at all. No idea what you talking about with software support and price diff is not that wide: G2 + controllers is £640 vs Quest2 + controller + link cable £390. But no one is forcing you to spend the money anyway. If u like flying on a Quest 2 plse do. I'm just saying I don't. It's a free country.

Settings won't help...they are headset dependent. But methodology would be useful, if there actually is one that does not require extra hardware + heavy DIY

Check out the cockpit with a G2 and your Quest2 cockpit will look very much blurry to you

I have a G2 and a quest 2 but only use the G2 for DCS (much better)... I also have Skatezilla's DCS utility installed. I noticed that when I launch DCS (either through DCS utility or just directly through the DCS desktop icon) it opens steamVR (normal) but also the oculus app...which is not needed since I use the G2. Also noticed that in Skatezilla's utility, under application settings and then VR it has both steamVR and Oculus there and Oculus has a ticked box next to it but SteamVR's box is unticked and I cannot untick or tick any of them. Someone knows how I can prevent this oculus app from launching automatically with DCS?

If you like the Quest 2 you would LOVE the G2. Have both and never use the Quest2 for DCS. They are worlds apart IMHO

I've done no tweak to the G2 apart from using the WMR debug alignment tool that Bignewy posted here I swapped top and bottom and made symmetrical left/right. That improved comfort in DCS tremendously. Regarding screen rendition...yes have the same as you. not full screen. Don't think this has any impact on mouse losing etc. This is more a WMR / SteamVR conflict. Users launching DCS by simply clicking on the icon from a desktop window directly in WMR's cliff house say they have no mouse issue... I'll test that this week.
