ADMIRAL189'S CORNER - INCOMING SHIP MODELS
Spino replied to Admiral189's topic in Static/AI Mods for DCS World
Would be really nice if we had someone who could make liveries for these ships, like maybe a USS Knox livery for the USS Bowen mod, and some liveries that show different levels of wear. Great stuff Admiral Sir! -
Now it doesn't even show up for me in DCS 2.7.9. I do have C++ libraries installed, does no good.

That would be nice. IDK though. I'm sure we'll have plenty of appropriate escorts for them by the time the Admiral is finished though! Love his ship mods, they just about keep my YT channel in business sometimes! -

That makes more sense, guess there's no way to have 2 speed limits depending on depth. -

Why can the Los Angeles mod only go 20 knots? It's top speed is classified, but i'm sure it's faster than that. Reports place it anywhere from 30 to 37 knots. -

Of course it's a Flight 2 boat, I was just pointing out that the number didn't match. -

The problem is that SSN-688 is a Flight 1 boat, not a Flight 2, and the 688i is another name for Flight 3, Flight 2 boats were referred to as VLS boats. What the Admiral has given us is clearly a Flight 2 boat, but yet he mistakenly called it a Flight 3 (688i) and at the same time called it a Flight 1 (USS Los Angeles). So basically the sail number and the name that it shows up as in DCS are wrong, just minor things. -

Have you ever made any weapons for these ship mods? I'm curious because it would make them a lot more realistic if you could. The USS Constellation mod is a perfect example, it uses Harpoons instead of Naval Strike Missiles. I also have a couple of issues with your Los Angeles class submarine mod. It has the sail number 688 and shows up in game as "USS Los Angeles 688i", but that isn't correct. USS Los Angeles was the lead ship of the class, and wasn't a 688i boat (the 688i boats have their forward dive planes on the upper hull rather than on the sail), and it didn't have the VLS tubes either (SSN-719 USS Providence was the first VLS boat). Shouldn't be difficult to fix, just details that don't line up with the real-life subs. This is what a 688i looks like. No dive planes on the sail, but retains the VLS tubes from the Flight II (VLS) boats. Also for some reason when I take control of the 688 in Combined Arms it has an invisible 25mm autocannon, like an M2 Bradley. -
Would love this! Would probably add Skipjack and Tang-class submarines too, and maybe November, Victor, and Echo subs.

Yes please.

Yes it's in there, I don't know why it refuses to work. I might try repairing DCS and see if that fixes it. I don't have the Huey module though.

I have it installed but for some reason it does not let me fly it. It acts like a mod that requires a module to work, it seems to be AI-only for me. I set up a mission with one taking off, and tried setting the skill to player and to client. Both times the mission defaulted to the F10 map and I could not control the helicopter, it behaved like an AI aircraft. I don't have the Huey module, but this thing should be standalone, so that shouldn't be an issue. The only other thing I could possibly think of is if it somehow gets interfered with by the AH-6J, since I also have that installed. I'm using the latest 2.7 stable version.

There are a couple of places I know of. One is of course the User Files, but they do have a file size limit. Another good one would be combatace, they host mods/skins for several games/sims including a whole section of DCS stuff. They also have a file size limit, but IIRC it's bigger than ED's limit on the User Files section.

Pretty sure that one is broken. You can try Admiral189's USS Kidd mod though, I have it installed and it seems to work just fine. Similar to a Spruance, just with twin-arm launchers fore and aft. https://www.dropbox.com/s/j3oiajj2b0w0uvp/USS Kidd DD-993.zip?dl=0

Actually he's done a Kidd class, which is basically a Spruance with Mk26 twin-arm launchers fore and aft, built for Iran originally but bought by the USN after the regime change in 1979. -

Pretty sure Admiral has already done a Spruance. -

Here's an idea for a ship: the US Navy's Strike Cruiser project. It never got built, but It would be cool to see if you're interested in working on it at some point. Not sure if there are any good 3D models for it, though I did find one on sketchup. -
That would fit more readily with the aircraft we have in DCS at the moment.

With AMD having recently released their FidelityFX FSR, which works on graphics cards that are 3-4 generations old (and NVIDIA cards too), I'd like to see support for this implemented in DCS. As demanding as it is, I think it would help a lot of people who have hardware that is only marginally able to run DCS, and give everyone else a performance boost too.
-
I'd love to see this too! Not sure how it would be implemented, maybe as a ship but with the 3d model far off the water? Not sure how it would be possible to land on it otherwise. I know there was a Zeppelin in the WWI mod, but I'm sure it wasn't landable.
-
Just to reiterate: I am not hosting any of these mods. All of my download links go straight back to the host site where the mod creator(s) have posted it.

The first one I'd like to see is the F-14E Super Tomcat (ST-21). For that matter, throw in the AH-56 Cheyenne! Now so far the only full-fidelity modules that have been made are real-life aircraft that actually saw service (F-14A/B for example). I'm just not sure how ED would feel about having 3rd party modules (not free mods) of aircraft that either didn't get past the drawing board or prototype stage, given that DCS is supposed to be realistic. On the flip side of that, I think that some of these machines might well help to level the playing field where aircraft like the upcoming Typhoon and Mi-24 are concerned (F-14E even though it would probably fight on the same side as the EF2000, and the AH-66). I'd love to see this stuff in DCS, but have you considered that this sort of thing has never been done before and how ED might react to it? I know someone else already posted something about this, but this could be more of an issue than you think. Maybe it's just me.

As far as I know, the Marianas map releases first as a modern map, so it'll go well with aircraft like the JF-17, J-11, and the Tomcat and Hornet. I'm looking forward more to the F-8J Crusader that Magnitude is working on, and I'm not sure I understand why they aren't prioritizing that over the Corsair since the Crusader would be more compatible with a modern version of the Marianas map, but that's another topic in itself. I think to make a WWII version of the Marianas map realistic, we'd need a lot more AI models (ships, aircraft, and submarines), and new flyable modules to the tune of what Microsoft did with CFS2 back in the day. CFS2 had the P-38(F), F-6F(-3), F-4F(-4), F4U(-1), A6M(2 and 5), and the N1K2J as flyable aircraft. With the level of detail that DCS has, making all of that would be a tall order. Right now there are only a couple of planes that I know of that actually exist that would be at home in a WWII version of the Marianas map - the P-51D, P-47D, and F-4U (when the latter is released). There's all kinds of stuff that could fit well in a map like this that isn't currently in the pipeline (at least that I'm aware of), like: Flyable Planes: F6F Hellcat F4F Wildcat SBD Dauntless TBF Avenger P-38 Lightning A6M Zero D3A Val B5N Kate Seafire AI Planes: G4M Betty B-29 Superfortress PBY Catalina Ships: Essex Class CV Independence Class CVL Shokaku Class CV Fletcher/Benson Class DD South Dakota/Iowa Class BB Cleveland Class CL Baltimore Class CA Mogami Class CA Myoko Class CA Fubuki/Kagero Class DD Submarines: Type C/D Class SS Gato/Balao/Tench Class SS Long list, but even longer for DCS. ED and the third party devs could pick ten things out of that list and it would take them a good while to complete them all. I have no idea when ED plans to release the WWII version of the Marianas map, but I doubt that it'll be missing all of this. My guess is that they have some of these things in the works or at least projected to be and they just haven't said anything about it yet (in particular the ships and AI planes, though what they are working on could very well be different from that list I put together). It might be a good while before they release the WWII version for that reason, because otherwise it would be kind of like what happened with the F-16C.

Now that is a proper skin, just needs a window fix!
