  1. Ah right thanks Maverick. I've not been able to follow all that's been mentioned over the past few months, so I must have missed that.
  2. So does that mean you'll have the option to combine them into a single sim as well as use them as stand alone products? If so what impact will that have on multiplayer?
  3. He's already been banned. Best thing to do is use the "report function" on his posts.... Check the small red icons under the username (IIRC). Sends a message straight to the mods and draws their attention straight away.
  4. Assuming it works similar to FC (haven't got Black Shark yet), you could set up a couple of aircraft to start in flight a couple of miiles from the target airfield at the start of the mission with waypoints taking them into land. By the time you get there, they'll have landed and taxied to the apron or parking areas..... If you time it right you'll get there to find some parked already and some still moving around the taxiways.
  5. The 159th are in the process of forming up a Ka-50 wing alongside our current LO/FC set up of Su-33's and Su-25T's. I'm sure most of the other squads will be doing the same. Feel free to drop by our forums if you like. Most of our members who have Black Shark are still in the process of getting to grips with the Shark at the minute but we'll be happy to help if we possibly can. http://www.159thgar.com/forum/index.php

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I've not got Black Shark myself as yet (my PC won't run it) and as such have nothing to do with the current mission etc, but I've posted a link to this thread across on our forums so that the guys who are doing the work will see it. Amraam, with a bit of luck they'll be able to answer any questions you may have about the server. As has been mentioned though, our server is public (apart from nights when we run our regular squad flights).
  7. As I understand it (and I don't profess to be an expert in the software industry), generally the publisher pays the developer an up front fee. I have no idea if this was the case regarding ED/ 1C and I'm certainly not going to speculate on it. Whatever the motivating factor there, it will be firmly in the realms of private business dealings and I would expect it to be very unlikely that ED will feel obliged to discuss it in public...... Which is fair enough since I seriously doubt anyone here with any type of experience of running their own business would disclose that type of information (or if they would, they would only disclose the very basics). ED have been in business for a long number of years now in a market srewn with the wrecks of software development houses. IMHO I think we should take it as a given that when it comes to running their financial business they know what they're doing and also take it as a given that they will make the choices that are right for them (ie will keep them profitable), and so will ensure they're around to make their products. To me that's all that matters. How they choose to do it, is their concern. Not ours.
  8. No in my case smoking saves lives....... Ask anyone who's been in a 1 mile radius of me any time I've tried to quit!!!! :gun_rifle:
  9. IMHO US aircraft have been done to death in flight sims. Would be great at some stage to see some western European aircraft. My personal favorites would be Harrier, Jaguar or Bucaneer, with SAAB Draken or Viggen and various models of Mirage coming in a close second. ....... Oh and a kick a$$ Scandanavian map with loads of lovely fjords to fly down!! Sorry..... Just had a flashback to EF2000.........!! :pilotfly:
  10. Your analogy is flawed since your neighbour doesn't own your house or pay to have free and regular access to it (read: use the software). I fully support ED's right to protect their work, but I personally do feel that penalising the international comunity because the Russian version has been pirated is futile and ultimately counterproductive. Also I'd like more clarification on the activate by phone option: Would this entail the customer base having to pay for an international phone call to activate the software if they don't have internet access available?
  11. ....Especially after 10-12 pints of the local ale!!!!!!........ Or so my mates tell me.......... :music_whistling:
  12. Nope it's as real as it gets....... And just outside my home town of Huddersfield in West Yorkshire there's a large house with massive private grounds where there is a grave supposedly that of Robin Hood..... Been mentioned in the local press every now and again when news is slow, and most likely an early Victorian creation..... But makes a nice little local myth.
  13. Felt it all the way up in Yorkshire..... Actually made headlines in the local paper. I was sitting talking on the phone when it hit...... Not a shake as such but a Godawful noise and a bang like something had hit the flats I live in very hard...... Nearly shoved me off the sofa!! ..... I immediately crossed California off the list of places I want to visit before I die!!!!!
  14. I think that you've every right to be proud of what you've achieved in the past year, Fudd..... You (along with the other dedicated guys who have made LOCERF as great as it is) have done a fantastic job. My only regret is that thanks to a steam powered PC and even less reliable internet connection I've only been able to follow it's growth second hand instead of being able to get personally involved in the flights. To the remaining members of the LOCERF admin/ moderators team, I can promise the 159th's continued unwavering support. You are more than welcome to continue making use of our forums for planning and discussion (in fact we are delighted and honoured to have you there), and if there is anything either the members of the 159th or myself can do to help please feel free to ask. We will be willing to help in any way we can.
  15. Check both sticks in the control panel as well to be on the safe side. I had exactly the same problem with my X-52 when I first got it and there was a fault in the throttle assembly. Unlikely that both sticks will have the same physical problem, but worth checking none the less...... Especially if either stick is brand new. Otherwise you could end up chasing ghosts in LOMAC when the problem lies elsewhere (like I did for an entire day!!)
  16. You must have the same Brevity codes we do!!! :shocking: :D
  17. All good points in this thread (very much including the original post). Mind you it's one of those situations where there is no right or wrong answers. Basically it a case of what suits a particular squad. As far as the 159th is concerned the simple answer is that, although we had one or two really good young pilots in the past (one of the best, and most mature was about 14 or 15 when he was in the squad IIRC), we had an awful lot of problems with younger applicants and members (ranging from the minor irritation of members not being able to follow simple instructions and wanting to play air quake right up to a couple who thought TK'ing their squad mates was funny). In the end we had a choice between enforcing a minimum age requirement and losing valued members. We chose the former. It's what suited us at the time, and that still holds true. Our view is that this is a recreational activity, and as such we want to make sure we give our members and environment they enjoy and can relax in. Unfortunately in our case part of this has turned out to be the minimum age requirement.
  18. Thanks Andre. Where in Zimbabwe you from? The folks I hung out with in Cape Town had a large contingient from Bulawayo. Lost touch with 'em all now unfortunately.... Came back to the UK in 2000. Great bunch of blokes unless you were the one buying the beer... In that case the blighters would bankrupt you in an evening!!!! :D
  19. Dunno if the mods would want to take it on, but this is a question a lot of guys ask after they've got accustommed to LOAC. Maybe a sticky post (locked) on this forum with a list of squad website links and a brief description (eg types of aircraft flown etc)? Be much easier for new guys to find and would save having the same info posted repeatedly on these forums.
  20. Well I'm not South African..... But I lived in Cape Town for nearly twenty years. Does that count? :smilewink:
  21. I dunno if it would be possible to think completely past titles like LOMAC, Falcon4, Il2 etc since surely we need to build the future on the lessons of the past? For example the campaign in Falcon is one of the most immersive I've ever come across. Surely if a large proportion of the flight dim customer base think likewise (not that I'm assuming they do: I'm simply suggestiong a scenario), then an enhanced version of that campaign engine (or a variation on it) would be a good place to start. Personally I'd have to say that future flight sims need to leave the crutch of the online community behind and revisit the offline campaign. A lot of recent titles (such as LOMAC and Il2) are fantastic online. Sure, netcode can always do with more optimisation but in general the overall experience is more than good (cheat prevention and a total erradication of warping would be a fantastic addition, but these are things that are beyond the sole control of a development team). Where recent titles (not just flight sims but PC games in general) fall down is the offline experience. They will often feel sterile and empty compared to older titles. So to cut the waffle I'd like to see a pause in the concentration on the graphical engine and more intensive work being put into the AI and offline components that although not immediately obvious on the screen in front of the player are a huge part of improving the immersion factor (ie: the little things that make you the player feel part of the game).
  22. I reckon this paragraph from the article tells us most of what we need to know: So it's definately not going to be a sim aimed anywhere near realism. But as Ijozic said, this doesn't stop it from being able to be a good game. The idea of a private army becoming powerful enough to attack the US though? The storyline will have to be exceptionally good (and refreshingly unique) to allow for that to happen in any sort of believable manner.
  23. I used the FBP extensively when I first got LOMAC to set up specific combat environments (since setting up 1v1 or 1v2 intercepts in the fulll mission editor means that you know precisely where the bandit(s) are going to come from (heading, alt and speed), where as with the FBP although you've still got a fair idea you don't actually know for absolute definate). Even now I still do this fairly often, and honestly feel that in the sim as it stands it's the best and easiest option to practice a certain limited set of specific tactics. However if possible BGP's suggestion of a single mission generator would be a far better and more flexible alternative.
  24. Been out a while and not sure if it's what you're looking for (I've not even tried it myself), but if you want a sniping game this might be worth looking at: http://ondemand.game.co.uk/MetaGame/productdetail.jsp;jsessionid=FA8D084887A20A32C4EC0E4D0E27C9AF.jvmGmuk?product_id=3879#index UK site, but if it's of interest you could look for an equivalent supplier local to yourself.
