That's the one Goya, thanks. I've been dying for a WWI sim for years. Hope this one sees the light of day.

Flight Sim X does look very tasty. Hope the radar on that carrier is trackin the microlight!! :pilotfly:

Hope you're right Witchking since I can't even dream of doing any upgrades at the moment. In a sort of related subject BTW, have you seen the thread at SimHQ about a developer using the existing IL2 engine to make a World War 1 simulator? Haven't got a link handy, but it sounds quite promising.

Due for release in November according to the Pacific Fighters website over at ubi.

ED Please correct these bugs?
Jester_159th replied to aimmaverick's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
True enough. But "your" pleasure is no more important than anyone elses. And to expect "your" wishes to be treated with preference is unrealistic. There's no single company anywhere on the face of this planet that can truthfully claim to totally satisfy every single customer's every wish. As you say, the decision to buy or not to buy is subjective. Quite rightly you're going to base your decision on your needs and desires. I fully agree with you. I'll be doing exactly the same. However, if ED have made a business decision to not put any further work into any of the existing flyables, then I'm sure they have what are to them sound business reasons for doing so. On this score the only fault I can point to is a lack of info on Black Shark's features, but that could well be due to the list not being finalised at this point (even though it seems to me fairly late in the day for them to be adding new features if they want to meet their estimated release date). LOMAC does without doubt have some deficiencies, but it's hardly likely that with Black Shark nearing completion and a new product already announced, that ED are going to spending money on resources to make major improvements to a product that's going to be superceded. To be perfectly honest, I doubt there's a single business minded member of this forum that would seriously consider doing much different in their shoes. -
OT: I want a 6800 GT/Ultra or X850XT AGP

If you don't get any responses here you might want to start browsing E-Bay. -
Super-Tech but with common flaws
Jester_159th replied to Starlight's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yeah been aroubd for a while. Idea of it being a training exercise seems a bit iffy though. No-one is going to wreck a (IIRC) $180,000 canopy and cause that sort of clean up/repair job in a cockpit for training purposes (especially not with a live pilot inside!) -
Take a deep breath.... It's just a game!
Jester_159th replied to Wild.Bill.Kelso's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Wouldn't that make an excellent health warning for anyone thinking of downloading large files on a 56k modem.......Especially when after leaving it running all night to get up in the morning and find you've got a corrupt download! -
How accurate would you want your Hornet?

How accurate would you want your Hornet?
Jester_159th replied to kydius's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Firstly: If you want a SIMULATION you're not going to be seeing the Hornet for a while for reasons that have been repeated many times over (and the fact that they've been repeated so often is why you got a ...erm...SLIGHTLY....sarcastic response from SwingKid). TBH I don't get why this subject keeps coming up. It's been beaten to death numerous times. If you want a GAME well fine, but ED have stated they want to make accurate simulations, so chances are you'll have to look elsewhere for the moment for a flyable Hornet representation. I'd also suggest you drop the "we can demand they make something since we pay for it" attitude. All it does is get folks' backs up and ensures you won't be taken seriously. You can't try and foce a company to make what you want. All you can do is look at the product they present and decide whether to spend your money on it or not. ED have done their research. Don't forget both FC and Black Shark were envisioned with the Russian market in mind. The fact that they've been able to find outlets in the west and get around the licence contract that Ubi holds on the LOMAC trademark is a bonus....For us as well as them. -
IIRC, the newer Airbuses (those with FBW controls) have a control stick offset to the side. I'd assume the co-pilot's controls would be a mirror image since the throttle quadrant is central between the two seats. So it's a bit of payback really...All the right handed Airbus captains had to learn to fly left handed. Lefties of the World unite!!! (.......erm no. Not you Comrade Lenin!)
-
Good luck with that. Hope you get some success.

mmm kay.......I will!! :)

The 159th is currently undergoing some restructuring following the recent loss of our original CO (159th_Bear_F) who unfortunately has been forced to step down due to other work and real life related commitments. We feel that now would be the ideal time to bring some fresh faces to the squad, restructure and move forward. We currently have two active wings; Fighter Wing operating the Su-33 and Strike Wing operating the Su-25T. At the moment both operate from Krymsk in the LOMAC world, but we are looking at bringing back regular carrier ops for the Su-33 pilots. Given enough interest amongst our members, we are also planning to add the Ka-50 to our line as soon as Black Shark is released. We fly regularly via a private direct IP connection (usually on Thursdays and Sundays) concentrating on squad related tactics and attempt to provide our pilots with a professional but enjoyable environment in which to induldge their hobby (off line however we are generally a bunch of lunatics so a good sense of humour would come in handy!). Most of us are based in the UK, but we have members from Holland and Canada as well. We welcome applicants from anywhere on the face of the planet, but please bear the differences in time zones and how this can effect your ability to join squad flights. If you are looking for a squad who are using Russian equipment and would like more information, feel free to go over to our forums (see link at the end of this post), reigister and leave us a message in the "Recruiting Office" section. Either myself or Mako (our newly appointed CO) will be in touch with you ASAP. http://159thgdsavnregt.forumsplace.com/index.php

left handed pilots, wheres the hardware?
Jester_159th replied to G3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I had the one in the first picture and the stick was perfect and extremely comfortable to use, just a pity about the throttle sensitivity problems I mentioned in an earlier post. -
Lock On is slowly but surely vanishing from the radar
Jester_159th replied to a topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
That's a very subjective issue. Personally I think that how immersive a sim is has got nothing what-so-ever to do with the number of flyable aircraft. It has everything to do with how the campaign engine handles the world outside the cockpit. It comes from hearing other flights on the comms, seeing other packages taking off and landing with real missions that , although beyond your personal control at that time, impact on what happens in the simulated environment you're operating in. Not to mention other "smaller" things like a proper day/night cycle, changing weather etc. It doesn't matter if you've got 1000 different flyable aircraft, if the world around you is sterile there is no immersion. Also, the more flyable aircraft there are, unless the development effort is going to be farmed out to 3rd party builders, the less time the dev team have for each one. This leads to less realistic avionics, FM's, DM's. Guesses and best estimates replace research and that's the end of any sort of simulation. What you get instead is a game. -
left handed pilots, wheres the hardware?
Jester_159th replied to G3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Us left handed folks should unite and take over the world. Afterall it's a well known fact that just about every genius there's ever been was left handed. That's the problem you see.....the lesser mortals that make up the majority of the world's population are jelous of our natural gifts!! Seriously though, apart from making a HOTAS yourself, you're pretty well stuck with the Saitek Cyborg range. I had one for years in one version or another and never had a problem with them apart from the throttle, which was never as sensitive as I'd have liked meaning it was hard to properly control your power settings especially for landing. I eventually bit the bullet, bought an X-52 and learned to fly right handed. The problem is that, with us lefties being such a small minority of the consumer base, companies just don't see it as being profitable to build units for us. Take guitars for an example. Manufacturers either don't make left handed models at all, or those that do charge on average 33% more for the same thing just because it's reversed (most of the extra cost coming from having to reset the cutting macinery to create a mirror image etc). -
What is your 3 favorite aircraft.... and why :)
Jester_159th replied to Mizzy's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Supermarine Spitfire (Mk.s I to IX especially). Possibly the most iconic fighter ever produced by Britain (if not the world). It's a unique design and just plain beautiful to watch fly (and in it's day as deadly as they came). Not to mention the sound of that merlin engine. I know it's not a modern (or even a jet) aircraft, but is always has...and always will be....my absolute favorite aircraft. If I ever get the chance to fly in one I would die a happy, happy man. Hawker-Siddeley Harrier. I can't put the reasons for this one into words. I've just always liked it. Avro Vulcan It's just got a "WOW" factor I don't see in other modern aircraft. (BTW...The F-16, F-4 and F-86 would be in there without a doubt if you'd asked for top ten rather than top three) -
I'm suprised that even a modern torpedo can survive the shock of impacting the water when dropped at the speed you average modern fighter flies at, let alone survive the impact in good enough condition to track a target and run straight.

Give it time. Like all electronic products, if the market exists they'll get better and cheaper in a couple of years.

Right click on the patch installer. Go to properties - Compatability. Set it to run in NT4.0 compatability mode. End of problem. (Thanks to one of the JaBo32 guys for first pointing this out since I got the exact same error when I first tried to install it).

Fresh install and patch vs old install - my results
Jester_159th replied to ARM505's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Raploc, you misread the original post. He compared a fresh install to adding 1.12a to an already existing install. But if you still want to take that bet........ ;) -
Where are we going now? Recycle bin would be good.
