    RPG vs. Helos

correct, the need for helicopters will remain in transport role and expand. Helicopter gunships will have to seek the secondary/reserve role with mandatory ability to hit targets out of line-of-sight, hidden behind obstacles. This will lead to at least 2 things which we already see presently in modern day with some helicopters. - fire and forget, based on information obtained directly or by 3rd party - man-in-the-loop systems, e.g. fiber optic transported feedback. Jamming is already a reality. In present conflict the effect are already visible. However the jamming at the moment is not in such condition to be deployed on tactical level. The devices are still comparatively large and expensive. On the other side drones have approached the level where each squad has them today. Tomorrow each soldier will have at least one.
  2. do not forget small sized vehicles... . In video you can see AR-55 (Fiat Campagnola)
  3. The S-200 could also have own EWR radar in case of ASURK being disconnected. A single ASURK-1M could command with up to 8 batteries, where up to 5 could be S-200. Typcally this was a mix of S-75, S-125, and S-200 systems. The usage of independent SAMS (S-75) in Vietnam war with coverage of 4-7 uncoordinated overlapping batteries, did lead to events where a single target is engaged by multiple batteries, resulting in rather comical situations where target got hit multiple times, or even parts of falling busters of previously fired rockets getting targeting as well. Clearly ED's SAMs, even the most modern ones, do not have this kind of de-conflicting and prioritization. Essentially it is on the level of early 60s.
  4. Situation is a bit more complex. What you do not realize from that manual is that the SAM site could be controlled/supplied with targets from command posts integrating multiple different sensors. It does not have to be a single radar, in fact the system did secure in this way resistance to the jamming... In most cases the deployed variants outside of Soviet union were of simple topological. In contrast Soviet layout was much more complex and resistant to e.g. Jamming. I will attach 2 diagrams that are not directly from Soviet sources, but rather book published last year. https://tangosix.rs/2022/19/07/nova-knjiga-esalon-sve-o-sovjetskim-i-ruskim-radarskim-sredstvima-komandno-informacionim-sistemima-i-sistemima-automatizacije/
  5. This message will occur also when vkb is restarted. E.g. when you load a different config. Your issue might be insufficient power on USB and/or faulty usb cable. Are your USB hubs powered by external power supply? I had constant disconnects until I got powered hub.
  6. What about naval helicopters?
  7. Not soviet, but rather a mix of blue and red. Gazelle was actually produced in Yugoslavia and incorporated modified soviet weapons. Here is demonstration of Gazelle with Strela-2m missile (in addition to 4xATGMs)
  8. Correct: Open Conflict, I did not try Hardcore yet, flying for recreation at the moment
  9. Head for GS server, enter j11a, and try it out. No modding needed with full IC. Have fun.
  10. Caucasus, pick winter(air temperature matters) and repeat the tests. Pretty sure you will get better results.
  11. Not sure what went wrong here 2023-07-09 01-12-18.mp4
  12. Missile was outside of gimbal limits so it was essentially flying dumb on INS. It was barely defeated by kinetics. null
  13. I had BS2 and upgraded to BS3. These modules show up as 2 separately downloadable modules. Within BS3 module there are actually 2 versions: 2011 and 2022. The first one has same feature set as the BS2. However BS2 is not internally identical to BS3 2011. Main difference is that BS2 has "perfect" INS and BS3 has this modeled with drifting (thus less accurate and more realistic). BS3 2022 compared to BS2 2011 (and BS2) has 2 main additional features: 4xIglas that can be hanged on 3rd pylon + ODS (MAWS) to warn you about missile lunches. Most of the servers at the moment host slots for: - BS2 - BS3 version 2022 It is unknown to me if you will receive both modules when you buy BS3. In your case I would contact ED here: I would suggest to ask ED by creating ticket here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/
  14. The video made from tacview... 2023-07-05 21-44-54.mp4
  15. here is the diagram comparing first pair of SD-10/PL-12 from above tacview: Notice Chart 1: here you can see SD-10 suddenly pulling G for some reason. In contraqst Pl-12 remains regular until terminal phase, but at this point it simply lags behind. Chart 2: not much rolling/turning until end. Observable is that SD-10 turns much sooner after ~30 sec. Chart 3: Pl-12 is clearly faster and actually overtake SD-10, 2 reasons for that sudden G pulling after 30 seconds + much lower altitude Chart 4: Not really interesting here.
  16. @uboats here is a comparison of SD-10 vs PL-12 fired on the same HOJ non maneuvering target. SD-10s tend to take lower altitude to some reason, but look like horizontally choose better intercept point, probably proportional navigation factor is higher? PL-12s compensate less, but end up trailing the target. This appears to be true even for non HOJ targets where PL-12 flying at mach 2.5-3 ends up trailing the hot maneuvering target in some cases. (need to make more tests on this). Tacview-20230705-203737-DCS-Su-27 vs F-15 HOJ_multi.zip.acmi
  17. Where did you see phased arrays in this topic? (rhetorical question) Again bringing irrelevant example. We are not here to facilitate another nerf/buff war. Discussion weather or not one seeker is better or other is not of much of use since: 1. none of you have access to the actual data. 2. radar modeling in DCS is not on the level that you can make the distinction beyond purely (invented) modeling parameters such as CCM. In this respect what @Napillowrote about the diameter factor, for the above listed reasons may numerically play much larger role than potentially better and more sensitive electronics. Especially in case when 9 years pass between the 2, in the best case you can claim that electronics are on comparable level. However this is all in the domain of pure guessing, and I am perfectly happy with the current state in this respect. What is relevant for this topic is application of new API to PL-12 as a test bed for the potential future SD-10. So far it appears that this API focuses primarily on modeling of guidance law with or without INS, with/without application of Kalman filter. So far what I can see is that PL-12, despite it's range, exhibits much worse behavior than both SD-10 and AIM-120C, when deployed against maneuvering targets.
  18. Is the miz file vanilla DCS or does it contain the mod assets?
  19. Slight correction here: P-12 and P-14 are VHF, P-15 is UHF, none of these radars have much in common and their use cases did differ. However, it is true that the soviet SAM sites could be fed with information from different search/EWR radars. Some of these integrations are direct, and some through posts not available in DCS. In addition P-14 was complemented by additional IFF radars, so perhaps there is a todo to model these as well.
  20. In radar equation two most significant parameters are gain and wavelength (represented by square values, compared to transmissions Power, received Power and radar cross section of the target). As we know, Gain itself is proportional to aperture of the antenna. Obviously the radius of the antenna plays a large role in determining the maximal range of radar. Since my radar knowledge is a bit rusty, and I may have missed on new antenna designs, could you please elaborate which antenna designs would allow me to have a larger effective area of antenna in smaller physical volume?
  21. I managed to reply and reproduce from trk, here is the relevant part of video. Note that the loadout has nothing to do with this. This was occurring even before customized load out. (clean IC on my side) It will take time for youtube to process high res video...
  22. Here is the video. This time I had luck: the issue appeared quickly. Side note: there was a long period off initialization and loading of textures after spawning. Attached TRK, I will try to reply it myself... Server_1_Operation_Urban_Thunder_V7.7.0.0-20230704-232016.trk
  23. Hi I will try to record a short video. This happens on populated servers with lot's of air targets, e.g. GS. It is very similar to the issues we got with DL itself. I captured the trk file where it occured, but I am not sure if this is reproducible from TRK. Generally imagine that red crossed objects do not appear at all. See the image. I am not sure I think that even airport rectangle disappears. the only thing that remains are own circle, diamond and connecting line. null
