New pilot model issues / helmet view issue
TheFreshPrince replied to TheFreshPrince's topic in Bugs and Problems
Ugh, okay. I personally prefer to have the pilot model activated, because I think it's a bit more immersive. Also the new model looks really pretty. But there's no way to dogfight with it and even flying formation is gonna be hard since the helmet blocks the view already shortly beyond 90°, so it will be deactivated most of the time. Bit of a pitty. PS: Are they planning this for all modules? -
Hi, first of all the new pilot model looks really great. So far I've already found some bugs: 1. When looking back, you "zoom out" of the head and the helmet obscures the view. This is actually severe, because as of now, you cannot look back in the Hornet it seems like (2D, don't have VR). 2. The (oxygen?) hose disappears when looking more forward 3. The cord runs through the belt

That's a good post. The colour of the aircraft, aspect and the lighting are very important points. There's a reason why modern fighter jets are mostly grey with an unreflective paint and with a flat shape, they are very hard to spot (except in high aspect). What you cannot do is show all of the them as the same black dot. I took this picture of an airliner a few days ago because I thought of this thread, an E190AR according to flightradar at 35k ft. It was a bit offset so in total probably like 15km away (~9 miles). Despite being high aspect against a monotone background, the wings were invisible. The only reason why it was visible at all was the brightly illuminated, white and highly reflective fuselage. If this had been a military plane, I probably could have barely seen it. Also, this thing is more than 2x longer, 3x wider and 2x higher than the F-16, so a much higher volume in total. In DCS this would be a huge black dot right now.

I turned Gamma down and use reshade that's true. But if I turn it up, the terrain gets way too bright. And since there are no sunglasses in DCS, I'd rather see where I'm going. I have default setting btw. and still see some floating shadows
-
Actually yeah lol. The Shimmering is mostly gone and the overall look is better. Shadows are also better, but still not great in detail. They are mostly too dark and there is no fading and lighter/darker shadows. There either is a shadow or there isn't. That makes the long shadows at sunset are pretty weird. And it makes the cockpit way too dark, even if the sun is right above you. In the Caucasus mountains, there are also some tree shadows floating in the air.

ist ein bekannter bug

I'm playing in 2K and before the update it was very hard to spot any enemy aircraft. Now I can see fighter jets as a dark black spot over 11 miles (that's about 18km), which IRL seems impossible. There should be some fading and a reasonable spotting distance somewhat inbetween. Just for reference, you can barely see a huge airliner (about twice as long and 4 times as wide as a fighter jet) at altitude from the ground. That's 30000ft or 5.7 miles or 9km. There's no way you can spot a small F-16 over 11-12 miles.

I can only test this on Mariannas, so I don't know if this is an issue only on this map or on other maps as well (maybe other people can check). All of the small ships like yachts and sailing boats completely disappear at a certain distance and then reappear when you get closer again. I have LOD set to maximum and visibility range to ultra. boats.mp4 boats.trk

Ah, great

"NEW: Added graphics option for Screen Space Shadows (SSS). This adds improved shadow detail to grass, bushes, and tree shadows. This is most evident with moving grass and tree shadows at long view distances. WIP. " I dunno how it works, but it looks better.
-
Thank you for your explanations, so one has to live with some compromises here. What I also forgot to mention is that I didn't experience any micro stutters, even though Mariannas is famous for those. So that's a big plus. I didn't try the TAA and normal AA modes yet to see if the problems are also gone there. But the overall quality and performance is so good that I can live with some things. One necessary test will also be at what distance you can get visual on enemy fighters, as this is obviously crucial for air to air combat. If everything is blurry, that won't help
-
Well okay, but somehow you can also only choose DLAA without DLSS in DCS settings. There seems to be a problem with the radar screen antialiasing, the sweep line should be solid and not dashed. Note how the picture also gets very milky when you look in the distant (LOD is maximum). I don't really like that. A lot of testing with different settings necessary it seems like. But the performance upgrade is superb and everything in general looks much better, especially at closer distance! Great update!
-
Okay so since there is no AA setting in DLSS mode, AA doesn't look that good even at best quality setting. Especially for moving objects like the radar sweep line, but also distant objects, there is no AA at all it seems like. Do I need to set it in the NVIDIA settings? FPS are great though, now i didn't drop below 50 FPS.
-
First test of DLAA: SUPER impressed!!!!!!!!!! No more shimmering of trees, power lines, water and possibly clouds! Looks soo good and even better FPS than before. Didn't drop below 40 FPS on Mariannas flying low over the city. Now let's test DLSS

correct as-is F/A-18C Automatically locks up unwanted target
TheFreshPrince replied to TheTrooper's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
So that's what's happening on GS server when i get a track on someone across the whole map, AWACs feeding me the info? -
Actually I'd like to "just" have good graphics and performance: -no shimmering of slim objects (like trees, powerlines, etc.) anymore -no shimmering of water/shore anymore -no shimmering of horizon clouds anymore -no wobbling clouds anymore -no weird shadows anymore (realistic shadows actually) -no weird smoke behaviour anymore -more up to date looking exterieur of all aircraft -more up to date looking interieur of all aircraft (realistic reflections and 3d textures for both the above) -updated Caucasus map with better graphics (mods like Barthek being standard) -realistic, dynamic weather And all of this with acceptable FPS on all maps without having to spend thousands of dollars for a supercomputer.

I love what the French Navy put together here:

DCS cameras, views and video recording

Here is a pretty recent cheat sheet that should still work: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3320507/ -
Likely your NVIDIA settings are forced and override the ingame settings. I think SSAA is broken, but MSAA off or on should make a difference. The diff between 2x/4x is not so big though.
