  1. Ah, okay. So it wasn't just me. Thank you! PS: It's working now
  2. Hi, I have just moved both my Windows installation and DCS from 2 smaller SSDs to one big SSD. I first cloned the Windows installation on the new drive, which worked without any problem, even the booting. Then I copied the old DCS drive to a new partition on the new SSD with the same name as the old one. So I didn't need to change any paths, starting DCS works just fine. But when I want to download new modules or do a slow repair, an error occurs "HTTP 403 forbidden"... I don't really know what to do with this error, forum search didn't give me anything. Did I miss something while transfering the files? autoupdate_log.txt
  3. Apparently the F-15E should be able to do this. I bet the Eurofighter can also do this easily.
  4. If you're really trying to maintain around 90° nose up, you can go some way until you stall (I don't remember the max. height, but i started slow): IRL I think you wouldn't climb with 90°, maybe at an airshow. But then you don't climb that high or else the spectators will lose sight . You can also see the plane already slowing down in this vid:
  5. The R27-ET has a better range than the only other "fire and forget" missile R-77 and is a "stealth" missile as said. To get a launch authorization, the seeker needs to see the target, but you can lock the target with the radar first. At what range you get the LA depends on the IR-signature of the bandit. An aggressive F-14 at altitude with burner will eat the R-27ET at maximum range right in the face. This might easily be 50km! You can also send it silently before or after engaging with radar missile to mask the probability of an IR missile and the bandit might eat it as well while defending from the radar missile. It gives you a lot of nice tactics!
  6. I had the same issue with a multiplayer track file today. Also stopped loading at "97 caucasus.ng5". In general track files seem to be more often corrupt after the last update.
  7. That's true. But many people would still love something close to a full fidelity model, that would do the current level of DCS justice and not feel like a 10 year old game. I know it's a long discussion, so I'll leave it at that.
  8. It's a great interview, I didn't know Wags was such a likable guy. What I don't get is the SU27/Mig-29 explanation, because it's already on DCS and that has to be based on some available data. Simply adding a functional cockpit shouldn't be the problem?
  9. Can also recommend Shotcut. Lots of tutorials on YouTube.
  10. I would also love to see the horizon anti aliasing problem as well as the wobbling clouds (when you move your head around) being addressed, as these are big points that ruin immersion while in the air. If you don't have the maximum luxury hardware, you can't set the AA any higher without going down to like 20 FPS.
  11. Can you be more specific? In general, I recommend doing missions, instant action and campaigns as this will allow you to practice a lot of different stuff in more or less realistic environments. I'd also rather stick to one aircraft at first.
  12. I dont know about the other planes, but the L39 allows you to train instrument flights, which can be really helpful and is stressful at the same time. I started off with FC3 and then I trialed the L-39 and it gave me a much better understanding and feeling of actually flying a plane and having to rely on instruments and analog navigation, etc. I then stepped into the Hornet and although you have to learn all those buttons and functions, it's much easier to fly. Modern fighter jets take control over so many things and make it so much easier with all the displays, FCS, GPS, etc. it's just not the same. It's a bit like the difference between a modern car with all those features and assistants versus a young- or oldtimer, which you actually have to drive yourself.
  13. Grim Reapers on YouTube has very easy to follow and interesting tutorials, have you tried following them while simultaneously setting up your aircraft? This helped me in the beginning.
  14. Well practice takes time. AI is easy to beat, if you know how. Most aircraft are only good at one thing, which is either one circle (nose to nose) or two circle (nose to tail), so you should focus on the strength of your aircraft. If you fly the SU27 or Mirage for example, try to force one circle fights. Don't focus on any maneuvers, you don't need them at all. Look up videos on the circle fights (called BFM), I think Growling Sidewinder has some of them. You need to learn how to manage your energy in a fight, which means to find the sweet spot between being too fast (can't turn) and too slow (can't follow). I recommend learning to fight in the SU27 against the F14-B AI, which will always go for the two circle. This might be frustrating first, but you will learn a lot about the energy management and one circle vs. two circle. I can also recommend this very old video:
  15. When you look at real life dogfighting footage, you have to wonder how long a jet pilot can even handle the G's in a dogfight. You can hear the pain and stress on the body for the pilot here, which unfortunately is not modelled in DCS at all (expect for some too mild breathing sound). Yet in DCS we fly around infinitely at high rates of G's. You can probably sustain 9 G's for minutes in the F-16 if you want, which isn't realistic at all. You can also look around freely, while IRL you probably couldn't move your head very far at high G's. Is there any plan of modelling this somewhat realisticly, like slowly blacking out after a certain time of high G's and progressively decreasing this time during a flight to model the fatigue? Also improved sounds of G-strain? Limiting the field of view due to inability to move the head? Would be nice to have something like this.
  16. In a first test, it looks like the large shadow areas are gone. Thank you ED for fixing it! Looks much better now. What still occured was some kind of rapid flickering between dark and light shadows under an area of clouds, which was also reported in one of the threads. I thought I could reproduce it in a small trackfile, but then I couldn't reproduce it.
  17. They are fun in PVP and the MIG-29 is a real challenge to fly. It would be great, if they were FF, but it's also fun without them. There's the "FC3 clickable" mod, which makes it somewhat clickable. If ED would show some love to the FC3 aircraft and update the textures/2D models and animations and fix the bugs, FC3 would be really awesome. Even without FF.
  18. But it breaks lock even if you lock the bandit for more than 5 seconds before firing or do you mean the missile has to track for 5 seconds first? And shouldn't it start flashing first instead of instantly breaking?
  19. Every patch is a big surprise. This one reminds me of the old days, when the internet was so slow, it took you minutes to open something. And most of the time it failed to load. It also took hours to update Windows. A nice flashback!
  20. I tried to dogfight the Mirage 2000C Ace AI but it keeps crashing into the ground so often and frequently that I can't even get a shot at it. Gave up after 4 or 5 attempts..
  21. As far as I understand the time starts as soon as the aircraft moves: https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/su-p-42.htm "At the right moment, the castle uncoupled the cable, freeing the way for the aircraft, movie cameras and stopwatch turned on, and the P-42 made a swift attack on the storm of world records." The active pause thing might do the trick though.
  22. Look at how the P-42 started. It was held back by bulldozers so it could go full AB on the ground until it powered up to the max and then they let it go. Like a launch control on a car. You can't simulate that, it will cost you some seconds already.
