fixed MANPADS ignore line of sight
Gierasimov replied to Gierasimov's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Hello @BIGNEWY This is not fixed in the latest update. Fresh track attached. Stinger MANPADS appears to base its detection / tracking on Rmax / Rmin rings and not actual LOS acquisition. Approaching Hind also seems to know that Stinger is there (popping flares) despite not having LOS at all. Is there any hope for the fix or is it one of the current map tech obstacles? reported WWII AI has been ruined.
Gierasimov replied to motoadve's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Is there a track that you could attach for review? Only that can trigger actual bug report, otherwise it's just your opinion and perception. -
I don't know how to make waypoints advance but seen it for ages now. Sometimes it works fine, other times it does not or even does not display waypoints and path at all. Definitely flying the route while you lead them helps here though. Nevertheless I noticed this is not coupled with flight performing tasks. What works for me, without hiccups is: 1. Ensure the overall group Task matches expected attack type. For example, I use Pinpoint Strike for guided bombs attacking map objects such as bunkers, or CAS for generic anti armor attacks with Mavs or unguided bombs, or SEAD if my flight is Magnum shooters. 2. Ensure that IP waypoint is at least 10 nmi from the next waypoint which is the target area. 3. Issue order to Flight - Engage Mission and Rejoin before I reach IP waypoint. I nvere had issue you described where AI would go to route wp1 but maybe it happened for you as you did not pass wp1 yourself, IDK maybe they go to 1 and will continue then for you?

Sure not 5, at least 7 if not 10. What community are you talking about? This one?

With Hornet out of Early Access, albeit without big announcment trialer teaser, I would welcome and even spend few bucks on its visual uplift to standards seen in F-4E & CH-47

Yes UNIFIL Blue line is modeled in Syria map, here for the reference, the real thing: There are flags, blue barrels along Israel / Lebanon border, in the bases there are UN marked helipads, UN white watchtowers, and in the bases there are "walls" of blue / white striped barrels.

4 years, 11 months and 23 days later all points above are still valid. I am sure ED is aware and working hard to bring the state of the art ground, sea and air combat AI available for commercial entertainment product. It is resource consuming huge undertaking and will make DCS great!

Syria map was the first to bring SAM revetments and I am glad it did, it's presence in Sinai was the community effort so that's also nice, Normandy 2 has got some battle positions (not SAM ofc) so all this shows it's possible. Let's see what the new maps will bring (like rumored Germany map). IADS and proper logic, as well as separation of command / EWR / TEL, is for sure prerequisite for the upcoming Dynamic Campaign Engine, otherwise it will be one more pain points of the new product. As for the updated version of S-300, I am all in favor, although the time it took to refresh the current version makes me think that it would not happen. Still waiting for 2021 announced Pantsir.

That other sim, assuming we are talking about the one that has got a bird in its name, does exactly that what I am expecting DCS DCE to do. Save campaign progress, load the save and update it with the calculated status. Roll of dice affected by player flown missions. So, let's say there were two groups about to fight each other, but you left the campaign. Next time you load it up it will not show you that battle, it will show you the result of that battle, as the time has passed. What I would wish for is more than that. I wish the war would go on and I could at any time log into the UI from any device to check the status and live strategic map and see how two opposing AI forces are doing, so that I could for example influence it with strategic decisions, just like you do in that other sim before it's campaign starts. I wish AI in that battle not only progressed to gain territory but also setup defences and reinforced positions to hold the ground for counteroffensive. I doubt it will though. Yes, save game will definitely help set a persistent stage for DCE but do it will for single missions.

Didn't mean anything bad @MAXsenna, just you said Vulkan in graphics, that would make some of folks here think Vulkan will bring visual updates to DCS (as to take it for granted) but otherwise I agree with you. For now, just forget multiplayer DCE. It will be released as early access and will be a long way to get out of it, and back in 2020 ED said: So, for now DCE will come to SP, and as such, how do you expect your SP DCE to run overnight while your computer sleeps? It won't. It will save the state, load afresh and calculate battlefield to continue dynamic orders for player. If the order was to kill a convoy and you go sleep, next time you open DCE that mission will not be there or had changed somehow, right? In order to have 24/7/365 life campaign where player jumps in and out whenever player wants, that campaign cannot belong to local DCS installation.

@Dangerzone This update provides hints as to that the module will bring. I think it will be very similar to other strategy games where you have a 'map' at strategic level and 'missions' at tactical level. It is going to be interesting from the point of theme continuity... Although without story or narration you would normally see in paid campaigns like ones form Baltic Dragon or Reflected or others ...

Is there a mod I can download and use in game to AAR ?

You really flatten this @MAXsenna "Vulkan is graphics" - it certainly is related to and allows much more in terms of new shaders, visual effects and GPU scheduling, however, as we know from the newsletters already, current DirectX graphics rendering in DCS and current Vulkan implementation (internal to ED) graphics rendering produce exact the same graphics which to me means that when Vulkan comes, DCS will, hopefully, only initially look exactly the same. Unless ED decides on releasing Vulkan to public only with the new EDGE version with new visuals. Coming back to the DCE, for multiplayer it makes sense that battles can run long time, however in single player experience, that would mean ED had to run servers in the background. We all know this isn't going to happen, so yeah, I think it will be campaign "save game", and I expect when you load it, it will check the timestamps, calculate how much time elapsed and roll the dice on what would have happened to the battlefield, generating new positions for blue and red forces. I say one thing - DON'T rush DCE. Just now I placed four groups of 4 tanks each and tried to make them battle Kandahar streets... with all groups set on RANDOM skill level you get variable kills (who gets the first kill usually wins entire group), but man, locking into the buildings stops the progress. Tanks on the bridge don't see tanks in the open on the other side of it, but not only that - tanks in the open don't see tanks on the bridge until the last of the group passes it, shooting starts but it is too close and they switch to machine guns, but those are too weak to damage tanks, and they end up passing each other head on, stopping just 50 meters one group behind the other, facing back to each other and then the battle stops, no more bullets, no more action. Red and Blue tanks sitting in the open danger close, no fighting as if not knowing about each other, but without even trying to turn and check. This is just a quick example - with that kind of example, with that "logic" DCE will not work.
-
So far I understand DCE as a battle in progress where each time I join, the front would have changed based on each AI group tasking and outocmes, which I, as a player can influence further by receiving part of that tasking, for example here is a supply convoy, go kill it, and if I succeed, the convoy won't replenish another group that might loose it's next encounter with opposing force as a result. Given the state of AI, and all other parts of DCS dysfunctional attitude towards helping the user I doubt DCE will revolutionize DCS as such. For sure it will bring nice things, which will enable us to enjoy constant 'something to do' in otherwise empty DCS World. I guess I will stick to my missions and narrated campaigns, unless DCE is actually a revolution in AI, communication, and cooperation between player and friendly forces... THAT is almost unimaginable amount of (re)work in DCS needed.
-
For sure @Northstar98 this would be another level of DCS experience. I can't see how it could be implemented right now without rewriting entire AI from scratch. I am looking forward to see what will Dynamic Campaign Engine bring but I am affraid it will be yet another Early Access Work In Progress product with shutdown cache / start where you left off kind of thing experience.
-
Fully agree, although 15 years of DCS history shows that it is not going to happen. Even half baked WW2 Asset Pack paid module got stuck, most of the stuff that would make sense for Normandy and Channels map is not there. Afghanistan, Syria, Sinai all we have is just a bunch of disjoint units here and there.
-
There is already animation for Apache to get out of the cockpit (as ejection) so I am sure there is a plan don the road. I think there was even a mention that advanced animations are in progress, however from the newsletter long time ago I gathered it will be rather for WWII aircraft...

DCS Update | Kola Development Report | Pimax Crystal Light
Gierasimov replied to Graphics's topic in Official Newsletters
We want Fulcrum we want Fulcrum we want Fulcrum.... The MiG-29 Fulcrum should get a promotion - it always rises to the occasion, newsletter about the project update and ins and outs would be the best newsletter this year! -
Afghanistan is enough for me in the War-on-Terror and War on Isis scenarios, I will wait for the "south expansion", however I wonder what comes first, expansion or DCS Earth.
-
Yeah, I guess, we will see what DCS Earth module brings. Hopefully it will be good quality down low and not only for high altitude interceptions but also for the helo folks, although I don't think so.

Caucasus by Ugra Media - 30 USD, if it was OrbX - 0 USD, current Caucasus looks better than Kola in many places
