  1. TBH if you can't do AAR, you don't need to. Most of the maps are quite small and we have airbases everywhere. Even without fuel tanks, i can take a full load of bombs 120nm, bomb and get back onto the carrier without any fuel issues. BUT I highly recommend you learn to do AAR. 2 things: 1. ensure you have curves in your joystick and throttle as needed (you do NOT want it too responsive); and 2. practice, practice, practice. The human mind is designed to learn as long as you push it.
  2. yeah same. Even on the TTI server I frequent, you only ever see bombers come over in 1s and 2s. I'd love to see formations of up to 12 or 24 surrounded by fighters.
  3. You know what would be great? A South East Asian map!! ie. Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos/Thailand. This would allow us to do a proper Vietnam campaign (huey, Mi8, etc). We need jungle and lots of it!! Alternatively South America would be great eg. Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, etc
  4. lol same here but baby steps eh? ;) I'm sure they could model a 4 engine a/c or maybe they can't so I'm suggesting something a little smaller/older (so that theoretically we can get the proper info about the a/c). Otherwise I'd love a C130 just like everyone else!
  5. this sounds really great. I pretty much ONLY fly carrier ops with the hornet now. I love that feeling of spawning in the cockpit on the deck with the ships on station and the beautiful water flying by. Having said that, if they are going to release a paid module (CV) with briefing station, etc I wish they could include: 1. the ability to WALK from the briefing room to the Hornet 2. actual crewmen on the carrier deck (red/green/blue/yellow/etc shirts) that guide you, rearm/refuel you, etc 3. more carrier aircraft eg. Seahawk (seeing the gazelle on the nearby destroyer or whatever is kinda offputting), E2 Hawkeye, C2 greyhound, etc Also, giving a player the ability to steer the carrier sounds great in theory however with the amount of idiots online, I can quickly see this turning to poo.
  6. you know what would be an excellent civ/mil a/c to get into DCS? The Fairchild C123! :)
  7. TBH from that list we need atleast 2 new airframes for NATO: 1. attack helicopter (I'm sure the AH1 is coming for this); and 2. a troop transport/utility eg. the Blackhawk/Seahawk
  8. You know what would be great? This: An online PVE (or PVP with COOP) dynamic campaign which takes into account: 1. a proper campaign ie. an established 'front line' with regular thrusts, large battles, attacks, etc 2. proper modelling of resources eg. factories, etc produce fuel, ammo, vehicles, etc which need to be transported to the front line. These factories are heavily defended but vulnerable. 3. proper logistics ie. constant supply convoys, trains, ships, etc. destroy a bridge, the convoys reroute or stop. This impacts the front line. 4. regular air raids and bombing raids by the enemy with bombers supported by fighters. Not being sent over in 1s and 2s unarmed - up to 10 or 15 bombers surrounded by fighters. Hell even fighter bombers with escorts. 5. proper tanks advancing from point to point with battles against allied tanks, and supported by ZSU and other AAA platforms. This is where the A10 and SU25 come into their own but also need escorting. 6. Make it so that when you select your role, you're actually joining a Squadron be it CAP or CAS or Multirole or Heli. The Sqn then gets orders to carry out which are part of some overall battle plan or defense plan. 7. A proper warning order to individual squadrons or units. Eg. support tanks at 123455; defend against air attack at 123455; attack shipping at 432234; etc.
  9. Two things I use which really helped me grease my CV landings (which I've done about 20 now without fail): 1. Use the course (re the point above ie. find carrier heading, -9 deg and enter that on the course setting once you select the CV as your TCN point). This gives you a good ref point for when to do your final turn to line up; and (most importantly) 2. Place your landing spot (not sure what that little circle is called) AFTER the wires. Most people (incl me) screw up a CV landing when we assume we have to land at the end of the ship - no, the wires are about 1/3rd down the rwy so you have to aim for about 1/2 way to land. Also don't forget, your hornet is already in a nose up attitude so you don't have to dive to the deck. Just place the spot 1/2 to 2/3rds down the rwy and keep it there by managing your throttle and voila!! every time! there's no sweeter reward than landing back on a CV.
  10. oh good. this is what I've been after. was a real PITA to slew previously.
  11. Not sure why you'd want an easier option for A2AR with the Hornet. its actually the easiest bird to refuel with. However you need to ensure that you have proper curves (up to 16) for your joystick and throttle axes. If you have a really good HOTAS then ok, but I don't. I realised that without these curves, small corrections (which is what you need to keep station and/or hit the basket) would result in big movements in the hornet such that I was all over the place. Once I put in the curves, little movements with the hotas resulted in little movements with the jet and suddenly I was able to move up/down/left/right/forwards/backwards in small movements so easily. Another thing I realised is that you have to determine the tankers' speed. A lot of the time its 270kts however the tankers will then turn left/right (prob to keep on their nav points) and the speed will actually drop 1-2 kts so you need to keep that in mind as well. Once you know it, you just keep to it. Tanking I find is very satisfying. Now most of my missions start out on the carrier where I load up to 30% fuel (if the tanker is close), then t/o, rendezvous, tank up, then head out. Sometimes I will take more munitions and will tank up again prior to hitting the target if there's a conveniently located tanker. Once I'm done most times I have the right amount of fuel to get back to the carrier. So in summary...just practice (ie. git gud! lol) and ensure you have curves added in to your profiles.
  12. Funny I was thinking about this thread a day or so ago and went 'nah, ED will never allow civilian a/c into DCS'....then I realised....we have the Yak 52 and the Christian Eagle!!! DOH! (yes i've thrown in the Yak)
  13. Agree 100% with the OP. I love DCS but after going through startup and a mission I come back feeling hollow like 'what exactly have I achieved'? Sure there's lots of a/c but yes over the same terrain like the Caucasus is boring af. I've raised this point before, they should be focused on PERIOD SPECIFIC maps and aircraft. eg. WW2. Korea. Vietnam. Instead we have a splattering of a/c from 60 odd years.
  14. Is there any update on moving ground crew? I'm sure I read somewhere that this was being worked on. I'm talking about seeing ground crew actually on the carrier or airbase fitting your a/c, refueling, etc.
  15. yep its somehow faster now which is awesome. You can see the progress at the bottom of the screen and whilst it jumps into/out of the map screen, it then loads you into the select page...I used to have to wait for another 1-2 mins before this page would work (which is when i got the black screen and had to restart the game). Now it works 100% of the time, I just select my role, click fly or briefing and then I'm in the cockpit. It still takes about 30-45 seconds to load the cockpit though (Hornet on the stennis) - I have 32gb of DDR4 ram.
  16. Would be really good once we get napalm as well
  17. Can someone explain the benefits of a dedicated server vs what we currently have? I'm sure its supposed to be heaps better but exactly how? (I'm not a techie, I just fly the jets!). I'm assuming a ded server would allow be easier to run massive scripts etc (like some sort of online MP campaign, etc)?
  18. ok enough about Catherine Bell. I want to know more about the HARM. We really do need a proper SEAD option with the hornet (its weird doing a private op with Hornets but having an AV8 or SU25T doing sead for you). I'm assuming the most we can carry is 2 x HARM? probably leaving space for 2 x AGM64Fs I guess as we probably don't need to destroy the rest of the SAM site.
  19. I don't know what ED have done but my loading times after the last patch have significantly reduced!!! also there's a progress bar on loading now which is great. On loading into the TTI server it showed me the F10 map which I thought was a bug..but I left it and quickly I was into the role select screen. So good.
  20. To add one more: Please add ground crew at airbases and (especially) carriers ie. pushing over missles on trolleys, refueling, etc.
  21. Mine - I just want one (big one): DCS Vietnam complete package comprising: - Map of North/South Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Gulf of Tonkin, eastern part of Thailand - South Vietnam to include most major bases and a splattering of smaller bases and FOBs/camps - period specific aircraft including: i. F4 Phantom ii. F-105 iii. F100 iv. A6 v. A4 vi. Mig17 vii.Mig19 viii. AH1 Cobra ix. Loach - period specific assets (SAMs, etc) Not much. :)
  22. Same. You'd be surprised how many folks would purchase this. One major issue obviously would be how much work would go into this vs FSX. I had the C130 in FSX and absolutely loved it. As I've posted above, the C130 is primarily a cargo a/c with some countermeasures from what I understand, so you wouldn't have to model indepth weapon systems like you do with other DCS war birds. That alone should save some time. But yes, not a Day 1 buy for me...I'd preorder this puppy!! lol PS. you should try and incorporate a poll or something to actually gauge interest ie. would you buy/pre-order a DCS C-130. Avg cost for a DCS type a/c is around say US$70 so if we get like 1000 'yes' votes thats atleast a rough $70k as a starter.
  23. I had the same issue yesterday on the OGN ITT server. I had shot down an SU27 previously then got more contacts so flew towards a Mig21 which was the closest....at no time did it appear on radar. Hell I even had AWACS basically doing a GCI for me right up to 9nm when i shot him down with an AIM120C (active mode). https://imgur.com/a/gcJFZZp have a look at the attached image. You can clearly see my radar has zero contacts whilst AWACs is telling me the Mig is right in front of me. I tried recycling everything but got nothing. after shooting down the mig I took on two further mig 23s with the same result (ended up shooting 1 down with active mode but got killed by the other).
  24. Dunno about you but I'm sick to death of the Caucasus map. Yes as it is now, its quite beautiful compared to the old 1.5 version but man...we've been flying that map for years. Funny, I saw a post on here sometime ago where someone flipped the Caucasus map upside down then mirrored it, and it resembled North and South Vietnam. Pretty awesome. But yes, it would be great to get a Vietnam map to allow us to do CAS missions as well as fully utilise the Huey.
  25. The E/F should be sufficient for what we need with the Hornet. What we do need though is proper SEAD weapons like the HARM or something.
