  1. Finally doing A2AR with the hornet. Absolutely loving it. Always struggled with the A10 and Mirage. Things that helped: 1. adding curves and a deadzone into my pitch/roll/throttle (curve 15, deadzone 4); now its not as sensitive (which is actually a bad thing with A2AR); 2. the autothrottle is a godsend. That combined with #1 above makes tanking easier. Still difficult but way easier.
  2. ah thats what i needed to do! I've been ignoring it and getting the 'flight controls, flight controls' message from ole bitchin betty!
  3. I'm assuming we don't get any new carriers until the hornet comes out right?
  4. If we are getting FC4 I really wish the aircraft included for a complete package eg. Vietnam era aircraft, Korean War aircraft, Israeli six day war aircraft or a splattering of modern 4th gen aircraft only (say Tornado, F16, SU30, Mig25, etc). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. hi guys does anyone know which version the Hornet/Gulf map will be released on? ie. will we have to have a separate beta install or will it be released on 2.5 as it is? Thanks
  6. TL;DR - will the Hornet have napalm on release? If yes, will napalm be available for other aircraft? (eg. the F-5)
  7. hi guys I know this is out there but just a humble request - is anyone able to mod something that we can use as a FAC a/c? eg C172 or OV10 or any light a/c with WP.
  8. The A4-E is really coming along nicely. You guys have done outstanding work.
  9. Man if someone could do a Vietnam style map for 2.5, that would be AWESOME. My squad is doing Vietnam ops with the Huey but on 2.5....would love to have proper jungles, etc
  10. yeah thats what kinda annoys me about how ED do their maps - this is a milsim and most of the time we're either hunting each other or enemy vehicles...noone really gives a hoot about how accurate las vegas is to the real thing.
  11. I'd love both but, as a hardcore vietnam air war fan, I'd choose the F105 not just because it was a standout vietnam era fighter, but because most of them were single seaters which I think would be easier to develop than a side by side two seater (well...depending on how Heatblur go with their Jester AI). But yes, ultimately I'd love an F111 as well (being an aussie). I know they flew operationally in Vietnam as well but I understand they didn't have a really good op record compared to say the Thud.
  12. Agree with the comments above. I absolutely love DCS. However the annoying thing with DCS is its lack of proper scenarios ie. period specific maps AND a/c for post WW2. I'm talking about Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War I and II, Angola, Arab/Israeli wars, etc. RIght now we have a frankenstein of maps and a/c and try and 'pretend'. I know this is getting fixed but TBH they should've started with this in mind first then branch out. eg. what IL2 have done with the Battle of... series (stalingrad, Moscow, Kuban) - period specific maps and aircraft, THEN all dropped into a giant melting pot.
  13. TBH, thats both a good thing and a bad thing and shows the lack of direction with DCS. Rather than focus on one period, we now have a/c from the 1940s to 1990s along with 3 maps. Don't get me wrong, I love DCS however its not really representative of a period except for maybe WW2 (with Normandy).
  14. oh crap, my apologies all - didn't even think to look (I've just finished Da Nang Diary by Tom Yarborough who was an OV10 Prairie Fire FAC in Vietnam). Will check out that thread
  15. nah helicopters are way too slow for this. You need something with speed and good visibility to play the FAC role. Good luck trying to out jink an enemy gunner in a huey.
  16. I would absolutely love to see an OV-10 Bronco in DCS. They used them heavily during the Vietnam War and even served in the gulf war (retired by the USMC in 1995). The USAF retired them in 91 then brought them back to fly in Iraq/Syria in 2015 (so there's a place for them). Besides WP rocket pods, they also carried HE rocket pods and up to 4 x 7.62 M60s. With the difficulty in spotting enemy in DCS when flying at 500kts at FL250, you need something closer to the ground.
  17. If i had the money to develop a concept for DCS, I would develop DCS: Vietnam Air War Requirements: 1. Map covering N Vietnam, S Vietnam, Laos, cambodia, Thailand, Gulf of Tonkin, etc which included all the major infrastructure at that time (between 1965-1975) 2. S Vietnam to include all major air bases, military bases and outposts (Camp eagle, etc) 3. A/c carriers 4. Major aircraft: USAF/USMC/USN - F4 Phantom - F105 Thunderchief - A6 Intruder - A4 Skyhawk - A1D Skyraider - F100 Super Sabre - KC135 - CH53 Super stallion - Sikorsky H34 - CH46 Sea Knight - UH1 Huey - OH1 - O2 FAC - AH1 Cobra PAF - Mig 17/19/21 5. N Vietnam anti aircraft armament (SA2, multitude of AAA guns, radars like the Firecan, etc). Make the vietnam map a 'living breathing' world with Route Pack VI missions to N Vietnam (F4, F105, A6, F100, etc), CAS in S Vietnam (F4, A6, F105, A4), army/USMC support missions involving helicopters (insertions, extractions, transport, attack, etc), FAC missions with the O2, SAR missions with the A1, CH53, etc Basically everything you want/need in one download - none of this BS mix and match that we're currently having to do. Proper period specific weapons and aircraft in a period specific map. You could do the same for other period specific battles/war: 1. Arab/Israeli 6 day war 2. Gulf War I or Gulf War II 3. Korean War
  18. Being a vietnam air war fan, I'm definitely after something from that era like an F105 to go with the Mig 17/19/21 and the F4E (yes i know not exactly Vietnam era for the migs, etc but whatever). Would also love either an A6 or F111 as well. As for modern aircraft, the F16 and Tornado are definitely up there.
  19. yeah thats cool - just putting my in $0.02 worth of what i'd love to see. I'm eager to get my hands on the hornet first anyway
  20. Highly recommend the Inferno server. Its online (MP) but essentially you're left to attack whatever targets you choose, plus there are randomly generated 'invasions' and enemy flights for A2A. I think the guys have done an excellent job on this. Having said that though, ED needs to design a proper online MP dynamic campaign that works. This needs to have stuff like: 1. Dynamic moving convoys (truck, tank, etc) 2. Factories/airbases/fuel dumps/staging areas/etc that provide resources for front line units. 3. Ability to impact the flow of resources by knocking out stuff in 2. above plus bridges, rail lines, etc 4. Ship convoys. A good example using the Caucasus map is using the NW part of Georgia as enemy held territory with raw materials, troops, tanks, etc and shipping coming from Fedosia or Kerch (the territory in the NW most part of the black sea map). These can be escorted as well. 5. moving front line shown on map 6. ongoing battles, attacks, thrusts, etc then we as players just basically become one small cog in the wheel. Thats what we need.
  21. I'm a big fan of the Vietnam air war. I'd certainly welcome FC4 being specifically Vietnam era specific aircraft eg. 1. map of NVN/SVN 2. US a/c - F4, F105, A4, A6, A7 3. NVN a/c - Mig 17, Mig 19, Mig 21 Atleast we get something that can be a complete war scenario with period specific a/c, etc rather than the mish mash of everything which is what we have currently
  22. bit late but i downloaded 2.5 (about 20gb was my main d/l) at around 1.5mbps. I'm on a 100/40mbps NBN line (usually get around 92/38mbps most days excl peak/netflix times)
  23. It would be great to have moving landing craft that reflect actual invasion forces in MP - is this doable? also are moving vehicles, battles, etc possible in MP? Every server i've been on only has static vehicles.
  24. Good idea. How about we act as the invading force?? We have carriers set up just off the coast with harriers for attack followed by Choppers transporting troops. Only wish we had landing craft that could move in MP.
  25. I did A2AR with the A10C for the first time about 2 weeks ago. Used to frustrate the hell out of me until i read an important tip which was: fly formation on the tanker not the boom!! Once i did that I started to 'look through' the boom and just focus on the tanker...its quite difficult at first but you get the hang of it. also (I have a Saitek X55 HOTAS), I fly with my thumb and first 2 fingers which gives me maximum sensitivity on the joystick - gripping it with my hand isn't that good. Oh and don't forget to hit NWS to reset refueling (took me a while to figure it out! lol). When you do latch on and get the 'taking fuel' message...its awesome..but you can't relax.
