Testesd last night on Open Beta with my usualy 27 kts moving carrier and still occurs and made me missed align with the catapult, i then said to myself « **** that shit, i don't have patience tonight with that old bug once again » i then quited DCS and went to kill some badies in Marvel Powers United. :)

I personaly find it ok, as i trim each circomstances to avoid major trim, IE if i'm going 450 i trim for that speed, when i slow down to 350 i retrim for that speed, if going for holding at 250, i trim once i'm at 250.. so basicly, when i break at 350, i trim a bit as i almost get wing level but the most of it is made as i descent to 600 ft i trim to intercept the E Bracket, so basicly by the time i'm ready to start my 180 i am already trimed long time, i only retrim in the groove if i get a green or red chevron, which is rare. Dunno how it react in real life or it's done, but works for me this way. As for the ball, i had issues at first, specialy in VR. but after so many patterns and practice i get to know where i need to be etc.. so the ball i mostly only fly it once i'm 3/4 of a miles or even in close when it's clear, before that it's a reference from what i can see, further than this visual references helps me. If i'm further and i see red light i know i'm too low, if no light, either too high or too slow, that is where my altitude tells me, i'f i'm 3/4 NM and i'm at 450 ft i know i'm too high if i can'T see a light, if i'm at 100 ft i know i'm too low... so i try to aim 470 at the 90, 370 as i cross the wake. If i see a yellow light when i get in the groove i know i'm mostly on glideslope, maybe a tiny lower or higher, but i adjust when i get to see the ball clearly. But again this all comes easier with the many practice i did.

Just found this for you, really haven't look much in details since i don'T want it, but take a look. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3300740/?sphrase_id=12549041

Gotta love my cheap X-56, i could bind the Hook, external lights, Master Arm to the flip switches on the Throttle base. :)

If you'Re talking on the DDI page, unless i am mistaken, what we get is what there is on real aircraft. If not, you can always edit yourself something to put in the Kneeboard, or as i did on my side, since we don't have yet the pilots model the kneeboard texture he has on his legs, i simply created myself a list for tacans, frequenecies used in my mission, so i simply look down on my pilot's leg and i can see what i need.

As Precog said, triming is the key. I usualy never touch the stick to adjust pitch once i get out of the break (execpt when turning in downind, i input some stick forward to avoid going over 800 ft while i trim) until i trap, stick input are mostly only to adjust roll as i turn. Throttle only adjust RoD. Even though this is not how you do it or care, it'S 10 tiems easier than any other way, as you totaly predict where yoy go and control the aircraft, and not left the aircraft control you. But if it's fine with you good. :) Maybe, but now we are talking about the Hornet, don'T confuse people with future coming module as people will read on it once it sees the day, but it can take over 4-6 years as the Hornet took even more, so let's stick to the way « stick » is handled in the Hornet in it's Forum section :) Instead of looking at his stick moving as he might adjust roll as he'S getting ready to turn, pay closer attention to his right thumb excatly at the timeline you gave us, see it moving? See where his thumb goes? it's the Trim Hat So as many of us said, trim is the key. But again if you like the way you do it, it's fine for you.

Knowing what speed the tanker goes is quite simple, do as RL pilots do, fly on left wing when coming in, this will let you gauge the Tanker's speed as you fly formation with it, adjust trim to that speed, when comfortable get in position then ask for pre-contact. As you'll never know each tanker's speed from the so many servers out there, i always do that on servers and even on my own mission as for the fun of it, realism a bit and gauging the speed, when finished taking fuel i simply fly formation on right wing then break away. But as i already said many times, if someone can't fly formation as steady as he can, trying air refueling will always be a nightmare. It's like trying to run before learning to walk.

As Swag said there is lots of factor, as on ground trimmed for takeoff i get more or less because of my setting (i tuned down saturation to avoid crazy rocking on take off and landings on runways) -27/+30 or so (think max should be 40, not sure), but if i get in my airborn aircraft to test it out at around 350 kts/+ about 15 000 ft, i get average read outs as you do. And if you look on the outside viww ans you fly and input full rudder, you'll see them work and adjust as the system/FC adjust them to the situation.

It's quite simple, just ask yourself, do you wanna try stuff before they get on Release, or you wanna wait til they comes out on Release. Do you wanna do 1-3 Updates, as OB gets a few patches usualy before it heads for Release, or you just wanna do one Big Patch once it goes to Release. Do you mind getting possible bug on Patches as when it goes on OB there might be issues you find out first versus when it goes on Release, you get dozen of duplicates threads pointing to that new issues you can read and expect (cuz people can't read and create duplicates, like the keybinding on lat patch :)) I personaly have both version, so if something in OB makes me unhappy i stick with Release, but i usual use OB as my missions were made in OB when the Hornet came out and last time i tried to edit it in Release i had issues, so i simply use OB. For now each versions follows each others and are close, but for a while they were different, one was 2.5 and the otehr 2.5.2 etc...

Dude, just link/upload your mission in atachement it'll be easier to see if it's a bug or mission editing issues. As this we really can't help as lots of us have no issues, and tell us in which version the mission is.

No offence man, but you<re an 2014 old user on the Forum, and you already seen a new module being finished after a month being out? :)

So far on my side i simply discovered that the moment you touch the carrier it desynch your replay, as it creats a conflict in altitude, that is on my side, so if i take off from runway, trap on the carrier and end it, it always gets ok, so far done about 10 replays as is and it works. But as soon as i touch the carrier, either i take off from it, i trap on it, relauch, or simply do touch and go on it, it desyn the replay, as a more or less 200 feet altitude lost, so if i touch and go, when i get back int he pattern i ended up around 400 ft or so instead of 600, if i touch and go or even trap, redo a break, when i get in the break i'm about 500-600 ft instead of 800. Like the carrier creates a miss reading of my altitude. So it always ends up in a crash. So when i want replays, i simply end it on the carrier.

Welcome aboard and among us. I also started a while ago, my first sim ever was F-15 Strike Eagle on my old 386... time changed since then :)

Don't worry my friend, i will when times comes, i'm in no rush, as i already did it in FSX with the SuperHornet or in DCS with the A-10c, M-2000c and UH-1H, if i could do it with the Huey, i will for sure with the Hornet, i just have more of a blast doing carrier ops when i can admire the background ;) But i will sure have to add it to my collectiong on IFR/IMC and challenges :) they are never perfect but i get there in one pice, that's enough :) Ugly graphics old FSX SuperHornet: DCS M-2000C: DCS A-10C DCS UH-1H

While being at it, open canopy, turn on flashlight (forgot the default keybinding) and light the basket :P

I just tried, no issues here. Persian Gulf Map, at 3 AM, 17 000 ft, took off with about 9,000 lbs fuel with 3 external tanks, refueled from +/- 6,000 lbs to 17,300 lbs up to a transfer complete radio call from tanker, got taking fuel call on first contact. On Open Beta lastest version on a self made mission.

On my side to be more precise burners kicks in at 100 RPM and fuel flow jumpbs from 76-77 to 106, pre burners it's also 100 RPM but 76-77 FF, so in other words FF below 100 not AB, above burners are on, but i never really played around with to me that much precise to be honest, specialy when landing, i'm way far from going full mil power, i simply fly the donut. Just play around with your own throttle and see the numbers, as on my side i'm using a Rhino x-56
-
Unless i am mistaken and if things changed since last time i'Ve checked to know, AB kicks in at 100% RPM+ on EIFI, but it might had changed a few patch ago, so when i don'T want AB i simply stay below 100 % RPM on EIFI

I do like it, specialy that ever since i bought DCS with the A-10c back in 2010, droping bombs has been there, yes different as new aircrafts comes along, but droping a MK-82 on a Mirage, A-10C or Hornet or even AV-85, is still, droping a MK-82, same as shooting a Maverick. But Carrier landing is something new, i had quite a blast with the AV-8B doing it until Hornet comes along. I love doing the two most patience burners stuffs, Carrier landing and Air Refueling, i suck at tactical stuff, so i do what i'm a bit better :) Sunset and Dawn, the two most beutiful moments in DCS. Will look forward for your mission :)

Nah, i simply add it to the first waypoint (got to admit my carriers are straight line, only one waypoint), but as mentionned on previous posts, make sure in the « Unit » dropd down meny of the advanced waypoint you select the carrier.

(Take a beer, sit down, put some music on as you read this novel) We all have our own little challenges, achievement we get to become proud of, we worked hard for.... for me, it was Case 1, back then in FSX starting with the default Hornet's with it's bad FM, then VRS SuperHornet, damn did i worked hard those days to be able to, but i was just praticing the landing pattern itself, taking off dirty, get to 600 ft downwind etc... Then came ED's Hornet, which is learning from scratch as what FM and closer to reality model came along. With now VR, it brings the fun and challenge to another level. The Hornet is my all time favorite aicraft, and the fun for Carrier landings is without words, but damn did i worked hard trying to get close to those addictive numbers... i just trained differently from FSX, i mean, now i was practing Holding Patterns, Spinning turn and breaks and pattern all together... so many times once or the other i skrewed up.... i still do. :) But now i'm becoming at a point i'm proud of the progress (i might be now at over 150-160 practice routine, yeah that's mainly what i did since it came out, the otehr system sand stuff were here and there but getting this bird on a carrier deck was « Ze » thing as french would say. :) For some it's easy learning, for me, was hard to execute, yeah i'm a slow learner. :( So enough of my life segment boring you guys. Just felt like sharing a track of my finaly better progress, soon i guess i'll head for Case III, though i really love Case 1, in VR the beauty of DCS is amazing, at night unfortunately, all the details are mostly gone to admire. So basicly my training was taking off from shore, getting in at holding pattern altitude, going in for a turn into the break altitude but going in for a spinning turn and back for the break and land. I'm not on all by the book numbers, but that is mostly how best my skills allow me, after all, i'm jsut a arm chair pilot, i'm alowed to do mistakes as i'm trying to reproduce the infos/numbers/distances and how to execute them as much as i think i understand them. :) So here's my amateur track, 2.5.2 Open Beta latest patch (Sorry for the weird angle, it was done in VR, and since younger i craked my neck, my head is slightly angled right, so it gives wird replays in VR as i think it'S right, but watching the replays shows me it's not lol). Might be boring or wrongly made for lot of you guys, but for a lot of you guys on the other side, that worked hard to get close to these numbers procedures, how proud you felt or feel when you suceed stages of it, well that is how i feel now these few days. :smartass: Less :joystick: and more :pilotfly: (PS: I found out, taking off from shore and land on the carrier once, gives you a sync replay, but as soon as you touch the carrier, either taking off from it, touch and go or trap, it 99% of the time on my side skrews up the replay as i brings in some weird altitude missmatch, you end up for some reason loosing about 200 ft, so the break ends up being at 500-600 ft instead of 800 ft and ends up in a crash) QUAL-FA18-03 (full).trk

There is also these old classics from the FSX old days, with the Legendary Dale "Snort" Snodgrass, which started back them my passion for Carrier Landings and procedures.

Not for you, but for some other people they would rather have it there instead of looking down in the bowel of the Hornet, can be useful for people that does marshal stacks and try to time stuff, intervals etc.. I ratehr have it there all the time than fooling around to bring it up on or off. As you can see on real HUD videos, some uses, some doesn't, so i presume it's all amatter of coices and reasons. Same goes for cage or uncaged HUD i presume.

I think it's all individual taste or dunno how to say it, but it personaly doesn't bother me at all. This is using VR.

As people say..placebo effect? Cuz on my side i see no difference, everything is as smooth as before, maybe all depends on how each of us do our break, maybe i always made it smooth so i se no difference, and maybe some people do it rougly and doesn't trim properly, dunno, wish i'd see the difference.
