Quick and dirty Afghanistan style repint of DCS world.
Highwayman-Ed replied to Stratos's topic in DCS Modding
Yes, plus I've changed the fields to those on page 8 and straightened out a few trees that were not aligned correctly Here is Version 2 for any Desert virgins out there: Download -

Version 1 -> Version 2 patch Install this over the existing files in the Mod folder in JSGME. The folder structure is identical, so just extract it to the main JSGME folder and you should get prompted to overwrite the existing files. Full version 2 -

There is a low altitude noise file. If you can get me that first texture file (not a screen shot of it) I'll look at incorporating it. Also, further updates to the fields so in general there are less of them... I tried and tried to get the circular irrigation fields in, but the size and shape of the fields in DCS is just too irregular to get them to work. I've also aligned a few of the trees that were not quite right. The fields you are seeing in these shots are from satellite imagery from about 100km South of Riyadh -

Problem is that this sand texture is already at 4096 x 4096 and the only way to make it sharper is to either increase the repetition which leads to tiling at higher altitudes or to increase the texture size to 8192 x 8192 and then you hit compatibility issues with older generation graphics cards.... -

Feel free to change them yourself. The trees do of course have some artistic license, they're the best images of the type of trees that I was looking for, and there are actually 2 species of Palm that you will see in the mod that are only native to California if you want to get specific. If you can find unlicensed, free to use, high resolution images of native trees from Afghanistan, Syria, Israel, Iran, Iraq or any other Middle Eastern Nation that we're imitating here, let me know and I'll happily update it, for free. The primary file you need to modify for the trees is r_for.tga.dds but there are about 20 more files to change the trees in villages, tree lines along fields, cities and airfields if you feel like doing it yourself. -

Correct. This only modifies your textures that you see personally. It doesn't affect the units in the game, it doesn't change anything about a mission, and it doesn't need to be installed on a server to work. The only reason that anybody else other than you needs to install this mod is so that when they look out of their canopy, they see the same awesome view as you :) And yes, the trees are fixed -

Here it is! Stratos will update the first post soon. This terrain mod will replace the default Autumn terrain. Install using JSGME for best results! Download -

With Stratos blessing (and great credit to him for the idea and effort) I've re-textured much of his Desert Terrain and I'm tweaking the finishing touches to create a JSGME format mod that will replace Autumn. I expect to have it uploaded and available in the next 24 hours, but for now here are some images to whet your appetite -
SweetFX Problems
Highwayman-Ed replied to Rise Tragedy's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I may have just found the issue being experienced here. I downloaded ron533's SweetFX 1.5.1 and ran it. Worked fine with the split. Then I commented out the split setting and... DCS has stopped working The problem is that you need to leave that setting alone and look for the following entry on line 48 #define USE_SPLITSCREEN 1 //[0 or 1] Splitscreen : Enables the before-and-after splitscreen comparison mode. Change the 1 to a 0 and it works fine! I hope that this is your problem and this fixes it. SweetFX 1.5.1 with Split screen enabled, disable as described above. -
Not that anybody has reported, they're just texture replacements and if your system is not effected by the increased texture sizes of Toby23's terrain, then the same should be true for theses textures.

Found that 26 MinVody isn't correct either, but I haven't found where to get the right name yet...

Improved Towns & Villages Mod
Highwayman-Ed replied to Highwayman-Ed's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Compare away... ALL of the screenshots currently in the first post have been taken today at exactly the same in game time, with exactly the same visual enhancement mods (such as PeterP's HDR, Mustangs Clouds and Diveplane's shadows), using the same SweetFX 1.4 settings (PeterP's). Last night, the only shots shown with SweetFX were those of Foxbeard's version of the DTAC terrain. -

Added Foxbeard's Terrain texture file to my villages and Rocky's DTAC trees as an alternative version - Removed due to claims of plagiarism (T@ker -> Foxbeard) -

It's a version of Low n Slow, not the original. For this version I added greenery to the ground texture. -
FYI a couple of Airdrome names have changed

Loving it, shame that switching to Ground Attack mode crashes DCS :(
