Not sure about Windows 10, but in the past I don't believe swapping the CPU would trigger an activation. The verification hash they use was created using serials off of various parts together, like the Mobo, CPU, Video card, memory etc.. Pretty sure the MOBO would require reactivation but I don't believe a CPU by itself would. If you try it, please report back what happens as this would be good information to know..

This has been talked about for a decade. (No I am not exaggerating) Assuming ED continue to view this as something they want to do, I would not expect it earlier than 5 years from now... And for the record I agree that this is the most needed aspect missing from DCS and it would make my year if they completed this earlier, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

The only thing that worries me about your specs is the 980... I bought my Rift and used a 1070 and my personal opinion is that was the absolute minimum I would be happy with. (I know the specs say 1060 and folks are running with less than the 1070 but I would not recommend anything less than a 1070 for DCS.) Pretty sure I would not have been happy with anything less Obviously, purely my opinion so take it for what it is worth.

For the record I agree with Quigon that there are definitely times that restricting the use of Jester would be beneficial... For all of the reasons stated.. And while I wouldn't want a huge amount of time dedicated to it, if it could be a simple checkbox choice that isn't hugely difficult to code then yes please. Also for the record, umkhuntu you really need to step back and be a bit more civil.. Stating that someone's idea "is the dumbest request ever" and a "horrible idea" and the rest of the drivel you have provided is rude to say the least. If you have something constructive to say, great, but you don't have to be a complete jerk about it. I am frankly amazed that Quigon put up with you at all.

My vote would be the Harrier as it spends quite a bit of time at low speeds and altitudes much like a helicopter so the VR experience is excellent.. And yes I have them both and tried them both...

Not sure what calendar you are using, but today is August 24 and the posting you quoted was on August 9 and specifically stated they are still a MONTH away... On my calendar this would mean September 9th at the very earliest.. Yet we all know that random predictions of this type stating "a month away" doesn't really mean anything as too many variables and they can all change in a day.. I wouldn't expect to see anything useable until probably October or later. And this is not a slam on ED at all, just a realistic assessment.. Even if internal testing starts in September, I still think it would be doubtful they would have things tied up well enough to provide anything to us in that timeframe.

Not sure that the assumption of dropping prices is correct. in my experience, older Nvidia cards hold their pricing far longer than actually makes any sense.. (I have seen brand new GTX 780s that are still priced higher than current gen cards are. It makes no sense whatsoever, but it is what it is.. Probably retailers are stubborn and don't want to take a loss and so won't drop the prices.. And then they will sit on them forever because of it. I thought the same as you when the 1000 series cards arrived and I bought a 1070 simply because it made no sense to buy the previous gen due to the process being very close to the same. Time will tell however..

All the best to you with your current struggles.. It is great to see that our shared obsession can remain a great hobby even when more important issues come knocking on our door.. Not sure where you got the idea that DCS prefers CPU power.. GPU has always been the most important thing for DCS and going from a 980 to a 1080 TI will most certainly provide better performance.. MUCH better performance

Anybody know what the deal is with this company? I have waited literally YEARS waiting for this guy to provide the KA-50 cyclic and have been very patient.. My patience is quite thin now. A year after his website finally comes back online (months after he had said it would) He must have had like 1 example of each product ready as he has been sold out of every item he sells for at least a year now. Does he actually build controls? I have tried contacting him and the last 3 attempts got nothing but crickets.. Has anyone actually been able to purchase anything from this guy in the last 2 years? Does this vaporware actually exist?

Considering the fact that Nvidia themselves have now killed SLI for 3 and 4 GPUs (Meaning that the only SLI they support is 2 GPUs) I think the handwriting is on the wall and that Nvidia is going to kill it entirely... My guess is DCS will not spend time working on a technology that has an indefinite life span.. My bet is never at this point.. (sorry)

That is an interesting link, but I think I am reading what he said differently than everyone else.. I read that as he stated that VOLTA cards are still way off, and that seems reasonable.. Everyone else thinks this means Nvidia will sit back and do nothing for an extended period of time and I don't believe that. Just because VOLTA is not ready for mainstream doesn't mean Nvidia won't release a more potent series of video cards in the interem.. Possibly for less money? I think 1180 won't be too far off, but what that really means performance and architecture-wise is anyone's guess at this point..

I would create a dynamic campaign generator so we can have a true wartime environment rather than just a big sandbox..

IRL some airfields leave their lights off unless the pilot wants them turned on.. I don't remember what the freq is, but the pilot selects a particular radio freq and clicks the mic a certain # of clicks and the lights will turn on... Only one time did I ever get the chance to try this IRL and I don't remember the exact procedure but maybe ED could turn this feature on for DCS?
