For P-51. Both bomb arm switches, down. Bomb selector to both or trail. Press tit. Both my bombs go bang. ..

30 mins after hitting the ground. Only the British Mk V, as used on the Mosquito, has this long pistol time. American aircraft use short fuses. ..

GP 250/500 lb Mk V. These bombs were special manufactured to take the 30 min fuse and can't use any other. ..

Is this what we require? RAF DR. As you say, it's a completely independant system from the P8 magnetic compass. Mine shows 26 deg difference from the mag compass? (W - E). I was expecting them to all read the same, (apart from deviation).. ..

The RI unit is a repeater for the Electrical Magnetic Compass, down on the left, (wrong), remotely located, which is used in conjunction with a gyro which feeds the repeater placed on the panel where it is easy to read. Part of the pre T/O checks is to align the Gyro DI to the Main Compass, then check the DI to the RI Compass as a cross reference. These will be checked again during taxi to make sure they stay in line. It has a course setter, to help read a pre set course such as runway approach or cross country route. (All Magnetic). .

Simultaneous cannon and machine gun firing question
Holbeach replied to default762792's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
2 instances I can think of, where the guns need to be separated are. 1. Night fighters used cannon only. 2. Rocket attacks on ships would be preceeded by machine guns first, from about 1500' then cannons and finally rockets at 500'. .. -
I'm tring to keep it as basic as possible for you, so no bombs, no wind and no fiddling with trimmers. Start on the runway will ensure a straight tail wheel. Hold brakes will ensure a straight launch and rudder use will be minimal Here are some vids at different weights, all using the same basic idea. Practice, practice. ..

Nil wind. Nil stores. 100% fuel. Default trim. E1/A0/R0. 3000 rpm. Brakes on. Full power briskly and immediately brakes off. Don't touch the brakes again. Mosquito will track the runway without further use of rudder or stick. At lift-off, plane will attempt to roll and turn to left. Anticipate this and apply stick and rudder to correct. Shallow climb to safety speed, reduce power and trim to relieve stick and rudder forces. GL..

cannot reproduce Cannon firing delay increased?
Holbeach replied to razo+r's topic in Bugs and Problems
I tested again, old version and new update, with static ground and air against Ju-88s and could see no difference against the video derived times. In fact cannon was very close to machine guns in operation, just slightly behind, certainly nothing to affect any kind of attack. Regards.. -
RL difference is 5-6 mph tested for small drop tanks. 20500lb T/O weight. Std Ats. 20300 lb T/O Maybe 1-2 kts difference but hard to tell. Open rads caused a drop of 10 kts. to 275 kts. with tanks. ..

These are detonators that are used with the needle type pistols, such as no. 30. (1944). The ones we have in game are for the no 28 anvil type, which are perfectly OK, but lack the following. I see the 2 or 3 sec more useful than the 1 sec time we have at the moment for attacking moving or static targets at low level There is also a 25/30 sec timer, introduced in 1944, which also could be considered. . ..
-
Zero, 0.025, 0.04, 0.05, 0.14, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 11, and 25 to 30 secs. delay. These real life timings for the Mk 30 tail pistol were:- 0.025, 0.04, 0.05, 0.14, 0.5. Penetration of buildings etc before exploding. 1, 2, 3 secs. Low level static or moving targets. 11 and (25/30 secs, ( added 1944)), were to protect following low aircraft on the same run, e.g. Amiens Prison. In game we have 0, 0,12, 1, 11, secs. (no 28 pistol which we don't have). I tried the 1 sec detonator at 290 mph with 4 500lb MC, dropped from 20' AGL, with no ill effect. For skip bombing at a lower alt than this a completely new pistol was made, which would trigger on side impact. ..

The Mk IV has timings quoted for the Mk 28 tail pistol detonators. The mk 30 pistol, as fitted, use the much more useful detonator timings of:- Zero, 0.025, 0.04, 0.05, 0.14, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 11, and 25 to 30 secs. delay. These contain more useful low level delays and are correct for the pistol installed. ..
-
A couple of things I noticed while trying these out, that you might like to look into. Nose pistols don't use timed detonators and are always instantaneous (RAF). Timing is taken care of by the tail pistol/detonators. The MC 500lb is a Mk VI (3 lug), not a MkII (1 lug obsolete). The Mk V is a denial bomb, dropped on factories, airfields etc. so there are possibilities for missions. They would be dropped by post raid recce aircraft in order to hamper the repair work, with the 30 min to 36 hour tamper-proof timers and during the raid itself. The Mk IV can be fitted with a timer up to 144 hours, but that might be pushing it a bit. ..
-
The 500lb Mk V short tail was made for the Mosquito bomb bay and is about half inch shorter than the 250lb long tail and the same overall size as the Mk IV GP. The Mk V body is actually slightly shorter than the Mk IV. The 500lb Mk V short tail with MK 17 pistol, will fit in the bomb bay. ..
-
Is there any reason the 500lb Mk V is missing off the bomb bay option. Is this intentional? ..
-
Ok. A spectacular result. I dropped 2 Mk V at Hornchurch, then landed and watched the 2 small craters with the speakers turned up. This became quite nerve racking, with the 30 min time approaching. By chance, the Red Arrows display team flew low over my house, with an enormous racket, which included my dog barking and my wife shouting. With my attention diverted, the 2 bombs went off and I nearly <profanity> myself. When granny visits on Sunday, I will place her chair near the pc and see what happens. ..
-
OK. So lets try out the No 17 pistol. It has a tamper proof mechanism, so I hope nobody tries to disarm it, while I wait for half hour for it to go bang. ..
-
So what about the Mk V, probably the most useless bomb in simulator history, if simulated correctly. ..
-
The mk V bomb uses a no 17 pistol which has delay times of a minimum 30 mins, up to a max of 36 hrs. delay. It is a "one off" bomb, specially made to use up a stock of old obsolete long fuses and cannot be used with anything else. ..

need track replay Mosquito Handling, what happened?
Holbeach replied to Bozon's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Do this for any slider or rotator. It simply limits the travel of the lever for a max of 40 lb. This means you can apply full brakes without fear of a nose over or tail lift, which will damage the tailwheel. The wheel brakes themself, are the problem, not the lever travel or brake pressure. This is a work-round for a problem caused by an update and needs to be fixed. -

It handles beautifully. Check tailwheel in de brief. It might be broken. It can turn inside its own wingspan. It does have differential brakes. My take offs are perfectly straight. Maybe it's you. .. -
need track replay Mosquito Handling, what happened?
Holbeach replied to Bozon's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
I tried the rockets today. Using Eastchurch, Channel Map. 8 rockets, fuel 100%. Taxi and T/O perfectly normal and easily controllable. Actually hitting my target ship is a problem, so I'm practicing with a RL profile. Dive from 2000' @ 45 deg. Guns @ 1500' to 1000'. Rockets @ 500' using a button on the throttle. Great fun. ..
