  1. No it’s such a simple concept it’s hard to explain. You’re asking why changing the distance between your virtual eyes in VR affects the vertical size of something? The answer is so obvious it shouldn’t need explaining.
  2. This isn’t physics. It’s 3D space. You can’t separate one dimension from the other. That should be fundamentally obvious.
  3. Well that is in fact the answer. Your brain interprets your stereo vision. But that’s only part of it. A lot of depth perception is learned. There’s also the parallax shift when your viewpoint changes. Because when something is taller vertically it’s also farther away. There’s no way to separate the horizontal from the vertical.
  4. Well since the world scale is the world. Objects would get larger and taller corespondingly in any dimension. It’s best not to overthink it
  5. It’s interesting to realize your vision and phenomenon like depth perception are just signals your brain interprets. There was this case of a blind person having their vision restored who just couldn’t adapt to it. Depth perception is as much a learned behavior as it is a mechanical or physical product of stereo vision. You could be fitted with prismatic glasses that made you see upside down and given enough time your brain would adapt to it.
  6. You’re missing the obvious flaw here. Without an option to actually turn the dot off and as a mission/server setting players can currently exploit either the 2.8 or 2.9 option and see objects at egregious ranges.
  7. Yeah but if someone wants to do a cold start, forcing the option by having the plane already started takes away the choice. A cold aircraft can always be auto started so it makes no sense to have it already running. It’s funny in DCS to learn the cold start and then not find a single mission where you can actually do this. The Hornet doesn’t come with any cold start missions aside from the deliberate cold start instant action ones.
  8. Perhaps I wasn’t clear in the OP. I was referring to SP missions and the ones included in the game.
  9. Again there’s an auto start feature. So if anyone doesn’t want to do the manual startup there’s always that option. Therefore hot starts make no sense in mission designs. There’s also time acceleration.
  10. DDCS has moving (player controlled) ground units and so does Contention I believe.
  11. Fair enough But again there’s nothing wrong with DCS in this regard. Such an effect is easy to achieve.
  12. Why does DCS have a IPD/world scale setting at all? Why would a player want to change that unless they want to make a first person Godzilla movie? It seems like an odd setting to have and it’s just going to cause confusion. The headset already has an IPD setting which should be enough. The trouble with IPD in VR is you’d need to have this set exactly down to like a fraction of a millimeter for it to be truly accurate. I don’t imagine many headsets have this fine tuning, just a dial or slider. In most games getting this off a bit probably isn’t a big deal but for a game where you sit in a cockpit any small deviation is going to be very noticeable.
  13. I don’t meant to say it’s not realistic or shouldn’t be. I’m saying it’s literally a game on your computer. Again it feels as real as playing a PC racing game is vs driving a real car. As far as realism is concerned there’s nothing that needs to be fixed with the game. Again there’s nothing wrong here with flight models. The problem is people comparing a game with GoPro YouTube videos. The fact that these things need to be explained is hilarious and disturbing…

  15. My AAR awakening came one day after the usual frustration, driving to work. And realizing I was able to keep “formation” in traffic. I thought; how am I able to do this but not in the game? Well… look at the small subconscious motions you make on the wheel and gas pedal without even realizing it. I’m not mashing down the gas and wildly cranking the wheel. Just driving. Same with riding a bicycle. You don’t even think about it. Ok so do the same in the game, it just takes some time to get your reflexes tuned. And it’s odd because the only feedback you get is your vision. But eventually it clicks and an amazing thing.
  16. It seems if you’re right at the limit it’s possible to go over it a tiny bit and see the tear. In DCS I didn’t see it as a typical frame split split but sort of a wrinkle effect. But it was still an artifact.
  17. Yeah but you’re playing a computer game. So why does this matter? A PC racing sim is not going to feel like driving a real car no matter how realistic the game is. I think everyone knows this. Or should. The fact that all this needs to be explained is quite disturbing
  18. Other than the first step with the frame rate limit I’ve never touched those other things. Nor do I really know what they are. Everything works really well though so I’ll leave it alone.

  20. How do any of you guys know what “feels right” is? Are you real life F-18 pilots who really fly every day over the Caucasus and compare it to DCS
  21. I’m sure results might vary depending on the hardware etc.
  22. I’m using a 120Hz monitor and if I set the frame limit to 120 I see some tearing. Your actual FPS in the game would have to go over 120 for this to happen.
  23. The fact that world scale affects everything you see isn’t a theory. It’s a fact.
  24. But it sure helps! Cmon I know everyone has done that once PS for other game related challenges that might help your focus. Racing sims! 🫨 A racing sim is like a big AAR session that lasts 30-40 minutes and never lets up. After that AAR is easy by comparison.
