" References indicate the Aircraft is indeed a Block 52D http://www.f-16.net/aircraft-database/F-16/airframe-profile/3456/ Block 40/42 and 50/52 are all referred to as CMs and use the same TO# because aside from engines they are equipped the same.

  8. I rebuilt 2 warthogs this weekend and replace the rubber O-rings with PTFE rings I got from a forum member. They are slightly thicker than the rubber ring (3mm) and it tightened up both sticks quite nicely... It got me wondering if using a thicker ring might work for the Viper... Now I have my answer...
  9. With all due respect...I am a 22 year Veteran of the US Air Force with over 6,000 flying hours on 4 different aircraft. I served in every conflict between 1990 and 2009. Not once in 22 years did "wartime loadouts" include nukes. There is zero need for nukes in DCS world because the vast majority of server owners are not going to go to the effort of creating a mission with numerous trigger, options and objective...just so someone can waltz in and drop a nuke to screw everything up. I know I sure as hell won't. That being said, since there is no real demand other than for lone warrior who want to set up their own servers and nuke things over and over again...there is no need to waste time coding them.

The Thunderbirds fly Block 52D aircraft, but they are officially listed as F-16CMs. (Source: USAF Mishap report https://www.acc.af.mil/Portals/92/AIB/180404_ACC_Creech_F16_Thunderbird_AIB_Narrative_Report.pdf?ver=2018-10-16-132501-787 The only really significant spotting differences between a Block 50 and Block 52 air-frame are engine related. Intakes and Afterburners are different depending on whether its a GE or Pratt engine.

I agree...However, I've been looking into the CCIP Program in general and found this: So externally the external differences between a Block 50 and 52 CCIP jet are related to the engine installed. GE equipped aircraft have a larger air intake inlet (referred to as the "modular common air intake duct") Pratt & Whitney-equipped aircraft all have the smaller air intake inlet (Referred to as the "normal shock inlet" ) The engine exhausts are also different. (GE vs Pratt) Block 40/42s Exhibit the same engine related differences but lack Bird Slicer IFF antennas and have strengthening plates on the upper Fuselage. In short it seems the paint shop folks can have a field day because there are a LOT of units flying CCIP upgraded birds.

The second question would be found in regulations that dictate what visibility is required for different approaches for different weather conditions. For different skill level pilots...but the long and short of it...if you can't fly an instrument approach and don't have the required minimum weather conditions to land...you don't land. You got to your alternate.
  19. You also need to remember that yes tanks are designed to take hits from a 105mm...from the front...that's where the armor is thickest. The armor is not the same thickness every where on the tank. And you can make the point only 1-2 bullets penetrate...but if an API round gets through the hull and into the crew compartment...it's not just going to rattle around like a .22 round in a beer can...it explodes.
  20. Well You're talking about coding a system into an aircraft...that doesn't exist on the real aircraft. Personally...I don't want extra code wandering around in the game just because people don't want to learn to use the Navigation systems available to them.
  21. It's funny... This time last year the F-16C was a rumor and everyone said it would be 4-6 years... The beginning of this year the F-16C was announced and everyone said "Oh sure...we'll see it in 5-6 years" Now it is on track to be released in a few months... Yet the standard response when people mention upcoming projects is "oh it'll be years" Me thinks you underestimate modern flight sim development.
  22. Ahhhh but that's the rub...it's NOT showing up as a friendly. It's a box. All your radar can tell you is there is a target. Without additional information...All the IFF can tell you based on the information the radar is providing is "There is a target". It cannot determine the targets intent with the information available so it displays the only symbol it can. "unknown". Doesn't mean the mirage isn't going to try and shoot you down...just means the IFF cant give you anymore information based on the data it has. As you get closer additional radar functions can work together to give you more information... NCTR is a RADAR function that can further identify a Radar Contact based on specific signatures. (Fan Blade count etc) But all NCTR can do is identify what the targets "IS"...the Target STILL may not be a "Hostile". If you're flying over the Persian Gulf its possible to have F-14s from the US and Iran in the same airspace...Only one of those would be a "Hostile". (Well, Unless you flip a missile at a friendly F-14...then he's gonna probably be hostile too) And to this point the Situational Awareness functions or display are not even considered in the equation because it is a completely separate system. They compliment each other and share data but you have to understand where the data is coming from and how it is shared. Eventually as the encounter progresses shared data from the SA system might classify the contact as hostile and THEN the Symbol in the HUD would change to a Diamond...if someone else classify s it as hostile and they are data linked with you...THEN it might get a "^" over the diamond indicating more than one sensor has identified the target as a bad Hostile. PLID would be used if the "Unknown" contact tosses a missile at you" You can set it as "Hostile" so the people sharing your datalink see him as hostile as well. There are MANY MANY MANY moving parts to the IFF system which is why I think its really interesting...But takes time to learn. Check out the chucks guide section on Datalink and IFF.
  23. IFF is a radio based system. its range should be far greater than 20 KM. NCTR works out to about 20 miles...but it is a radar function that feeds IFF...its NOT IFF.
