Intel i9-13900k or AMD 7950X3D for DCS in VR
Ramstein replied to Platypus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I just bought a new Asus 790-H, 13900K, and G.Skill Trident memory. I am going to keep my 2080-ti for now. I am waiting for the new cpu cooler to be delivered. I am so sick of the fps issues with my older computer. VR sucked the life out of DCS with a slow machine. I hope to have it up and running by late next week. I am going to crank the mofo up... -
I could not longer fly with my system, I ordered a new Motherboard, cpu and ram, and next week it should be running. new: Motherboard: Asus Z790 , CPU: Intel 13900F , and RAM: G.Skill DDR5 ram. For now I am going to see my Nvidia RTX 2080-ti video will be enough...

Norton 360 flags the utility and you have to tell it to exclude it.. no big deal... where is the shutdown button? Mine is apparently hidden, the Updater size is larger than the screen, and I cannot find an option to adjust the size of the update screen... Great jobs on the utility.. would be nice to have a pdf like help file. Sometimes hard to figure out what it is asking, like the paths, but also VR info, hard to figure out the settings.. I have the Oculus VR, but I used Mixed reality and it does not have that option in the settings.. also I use Open Beta DCS. I have been using the utility for a very long time and has been great over the years.

GUIDE / INFO : DCS Updater Usage, Version Numbers, Module IDs
Ramstein replied to SkateZilla's topic in General Tutorials
for the New version of the DCS utility I have Norton 360, and it does that block files, so you have to tell Norton to trust the files and unblocks the updates files. FYI one issue... where the H is the shut down update utility button????? -
same thing happened to me... but I wasn't sure if I did something wrong... I am in VR so there's that.. it is like pulling teeth getting instructions for the F-15E... trying to learn how to use the weapons...

yes, mine went bad... but I am usually on a server... when I fly... so am not sure why, especially since I often start at good fps and it goes bad soon after... my good fps can be 30 to 40 fps, when it goes bad less than 10 fps... video Nvidia 2080-ti, 4.2 ghz cpu, 32 gb ram. Oculus VR. SSD drives.

what I like and don't like about the training missions in DCS. I hate waiting for it to let me hit the space key. I am held hostage forever waiting for it to 'let' me... as far as the videos with training, yes, often it can get tedious, but at least you can fast forward.

Thrustmaster Warthog Throttle - Button 15
Ramstein replied to Shaman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
my Warthog number 15 button also bit the dust. Looking at options. -
I have a Microsoft XBox controller (wired) and am thinking about getting a new one (old one is worn), to help supplement my Warthog HOTAS. Which model is decent? I want to keep model that is high quality and not a cheap knockoff. But is not expensive. And important, all of the buttons will program with the aircraft controls. Thanx.

How does anyone play online with such poor performance
Ramstein replied to Lorry's topic in Multiplayer

Mission 5. JSOW shutted down by sa-10.
Ramstein replied to Ala12Rv-Skyfire's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
JSOWS are really Great if you use them correctly, and they are one of the easier weapons to use. Also take advantage of the Dumb Jsows (TALDS) to draw fire from the enemy weapons. But not all Sams will open fire unless provoked, and some Sams will take the JSOWS and JDAMS out before they hit the target. Best to practice on practice servers and read up on them. -
Why does the F-18 suffer so much from stores-drag?
Ramstein replied to Temetre's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
did you know a fighter with a 650 gallon drop tank is like carrying a 1955 chevy in terms of weight... except the fuel tank is more aerodynamic. and just streamlining an object doesn't mean it is invisible.- 26 replies

what angers me,, ok anger.. not good, but when I try to log into stuff I own or a website I have account, which I had to go through a zillion security checks to begin with (Veterans know about this and their benefits server login), they force two step authorization, or even to check my home cameras.. they can shove 2 step..

I worked with them in the USAF. not many Naval aircraft, but a few came into our bases. I worked in SAC, TAC, with MAC. I spent a few years in NATO. I left in the 1980's.

I have not read every post in this weird comparison between the two aircraft. Totally different aircraft. F-18 was replacement for the F-14. The F-15, while on the heels of the F-4 Phantom, was meant to replace several aircraft, but mainly as A-A Interceptor, replacement for the F-111 (F-111 was very, very long distances), but the F-15 could not carry some of the larger weapons and much shorter leggs than F-111 (but weapons have evolved with so many long range missiles on so many platforms). But very capable of chasing down and delivering knockouts to other aircraft for long distances. Then they decided to give it some air to ground capabilities. The F-18 is multirole Navy fighter bomber. Totally different. Not even close. IMHO.

F-4E Phantom Development Report - DCS Newsletter 31/03/2023
Ramstein replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
JP-4, and the Navy used JP-5 Jetfuel (during and a long while after Veitnam), had a lot of benzene in it, a lower flashpoint than later jet fuels. and burning 1,500 gallons per hour, average. The engine parts, at that time were designed for the specific fuels. -
had to run repair after the patch, again, just about every patch... not a transfer from steam, have had the module for ages... and do fly it I fly online and campaigns 3 nights per week for many years.. sorry, just so frustrated... Thanx for thinking about it.. maybe it will help others with issues..

fired up DCS, says Mi-8 not authorized. trying again, owned and flying for several years, this only happened just now. Just closed DCS, reponed and again, and it also says it will be disabled. I only fired up dcs, only got to the first screen.

no detail Please! fix pure clients once and for all!
Ramstein replied to Ramstein's topic in Game Crash
Thanx, but DCS suffers from the pure client even on servers that do not require mods, and boots you with the message pure client, even when you have no mods. Not often, but enough times so you have to get out, at the least and reboot at the worse. also have to run repair on DCS, to get rid of it once in a while too. I was hoping it would fix that issue. -
no detail Please! fix pure clients once and for all!
Ramstein replied to Ramstein's topic in Game Crash
does this latest patch (05-04-2023 OB update ) fix the dreaded 'pure clients' : "MP. Added a real-time procedure for checking the required modules in mission loading" ? Thanx pure clients will send you back to desktop if it thinks you are using a module that is not on the server approved module list.
