TM Hog Switch Replacement
Ramstein replied to AurelTristen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I found a replacement that works and won't break the bank for momentary push button. I replaced number 15 Button on my WartHog Throttle. I found them on eBay. I got several of them for only $9.00 USD, shipped. They advertised them as fitting 1/2 inch diameter hole. but they are in fact a little bit larger. Maybe about less than 5/8 inch diameter at the threads. The nut would not fit into the place it goes so I had to glue it in. The wires in the Warthog are insanely tiny, so I had a hell of a time, I added from tiny wires from a plug in telephone cable to extend the length of the wires. I cut and stripped those on each end and the tiny, extremely fragile tiny WartHog wires, there is absolutely no wire to waste! And the other end to the new switch. 5x Red Momentary Push Button Temporary Reset Switch Car Boat N/O Round 1/2" Hole 642610573774 | eBay Taking out old switch was very hard to do to ensure not damaging the WartHog! I end up very slowing prying and cutting the plastic flange in the front of the old switch then pushing it back through the hole. I cut the old wires where they are glued on the switch. Do not waste any wire keep every bit while clipping off the old switch. There maybe a better way. The hole is a smidge too small so I used my Dremel with a round sanding piece the slips over a small plastic/rubber like cylinder that came in the accessories, which turns out to be Perfecto in size!!! Turn it on and up, put it in that hole spin it a few seconds and it bored it a smidge perfectly! The new button is actually too long, but the screw will still fit behind it during warthog re-assembly, just have to very careful on assembly not to mess up the soldered wires in the back because it is al crammed together. I used some flex seal glue, then some uv-glue behind and in front around the edge of the new button. But, you can decide how to lock it down. The washer and nut that come with the new button will not fit after putting the button in. Be very very careful with everything and get the button in place and secure it. Mine is working fine, so far. -
I adjusted some settings and will see how well it works in a few days... you would think with all the horsepower my computer has it would do well, even with just the RTX 2080-ti.

they backfired,,, very loud on run up... not sure if they will model it... I have some photos I took back then, but really not worth bringing, out, you can see all of them online in info about them.. update, photo of one I serviced. I don't seem to have the photos of the German ones at our Airfield. I probably have them in other files and slides. around 1980. -

The German air force flew them into our airfield once in a while.. hope they model the unburned fuel exploding when running the engine run up and takeoff! -
Intel i9-13900k or AMD 7950X3D for DCS in VR
Ramstein replied to Platypus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
too bad it could not use VR as an alternate for video input and the calculations, instead of the video card to monitor. as a note: my 2080-ti has a 21% deficit as the bottleneck in my system. I will upgrade my video card in the coming year, hopefully. -
got to think to that they weapons package and electronics were designed decades ago, and took a long while to implement and interface with updates in technology. It wasn't long ago that the 16 bit memory (8 bit was till used in many hardware designs in the 1980's) and flash loading and checksums were not a second fast, and the electronics was not just built for speed but also the aircraft environment. The interface is probably decades old and cannot compare to today (2010+). I too get pissed when I pull the trigger and wait forever.

Intel i9-13900k or AMD 7950X3D for DCS in VR
Ramstein replied to Platypus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
well worth it! The 2080-ti holds it back but I still can run VR really good. Everyone needs a high performance machine to really enjoy DCS and IL-2. I don't play much of anything else. On just about all modules it can hold 40+ fps in VR with very high settings. If it were not VR I could probably just max it all. If I do get a Nvidia 4080 or better I would say maxed in VR. The Apache is still the most demanding, but can get 30 fps on a busy map and server online. I have a home and family and just cannot go hog wild with purchases. But am happy to have what I have. btw, I have seen 80 fps, but cannot say that it is a steady fps in vr. -
fixed. F-18 a-a aim-120's off the rails since the last OB patch?
Ramstein replied to Ramstein's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I think it is resolved. Later I will check the F-16 (which is working just fine and see if it uses a different button for the aim 9 and another for the aim-120.) Ok, I see what happened, I used to have my aim-9's come off with the trigger, and my 120's come off with my pickle release. either I changed it or it changed, I think that may have been with the F-16. the aim-120's were not coming off with the trigger or the pickle buttons. something got messed up, and now it is working again, I hope.. I am going to just say I messed it up somehow!. the aim-120's were set for the RALT-Space (pickle release). (I know I used a separate release for two different a-a). I don't have issues in other aircraft. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled, tested the keyboard. Did a DCS repair. Flown the official training missions with the 120's. Something is porked. They just do not want to come off the rails. They had a very hard time coming off the rails in the Official F-18 120 training mission too. This is a very, very recent problem. Last time I flew the F-18 in combat was a couple weeks ago, since then I was flying other aircraft, When I came back to the F-18 (last night) this unknown problem stopped them from working. I went into controls and reset the keys and joystick commands to make sure they did not get corrupted. Still not fixed. I just flew some of the practice missions, and the keyboard is fine, I tested the hell out of it. MY Warthog is working great with other aircraft. I am only trying to see if anyone else had this issue and what the fix was. **whatever has changed I will leave it alone. -
