  1. I'm a big fan of the Mirage. Nothing against the F-5, but it seems like a very limited aircraft. The M-2kC has a pretty decent radar, some cool autopilot modes, a solid and easy to use INS, can mid-air refuel, and is pretty zippy and fun to fly. I would definitely recommend the Mirage over the Tiger (although, full-disclosure, I've never flown the F-5 so....)

    Help!

Addendum: DCS really did us a solid by allowing us to edit keybinds mid mission so take full advantage of that. You can sort and filter keybind categories, so I would say as a starter, everything under the HOTAS category should be at your fingertips.

    Help!

There are plenty of profiles floating around out there, but after hundreds of hours of flight time on the X52 I developed my own keybinds that served me quite well until I upgraded to the TMWH. Not knowing what platform you want profiles for (please consider adding more info to your thread title when asking for help), I would say map just what you need to take off (pitch/roll/rudder/throttle etc) and then fly around in various situations. Flying the Hawg? Think to yourself "I want to press TMS left long" and see which hat or switch makes the most sense. Want to uncage your seeker head? Guess what, you'll prob need that keybind for lots of platforms so maybe keep that in mind. Don't forget that you can assign X52 switches as modifiers. I basically doubled the number of keybinds on my stick by making the pinky paddle (joybutton 6 I believe) a modifier. But if you don't care about that level of personalization, just go to the DCS website, click on user files, and you should be able to find plenty of X52 profiles.
  4. 8 GB is nothing. The preponderance of posters here have little to no problem with the size of the module. Please focus your dev efforts elsewhere. Oh, and great job on the Cat
  5. Seems wildly optimistic in hindsight :music_whistling: Just adding my two cents - I've gotten literally hundreds of hours (if not over a thousand) of enjoyment from this and other DCS modules across three separate PCs. Basic fixes should be provided free, but I have no problem with them trying to make some money from their labor. Those of you claiming that software devs aren't charging for incremental updates of a single platform haven't been paying attention because that is exactly where the software industry is going (see: DLC, games-as-service, subscription models for Photoshop, MS Office etc.) The fact that DCS provides us as much as they do is more an outlier than trying to make some money off a product upgrade. Let's not be so stingy people. We got a good thing going here.
  6. In a vacuum, I would have picked American jets, but since we have most of the Western jets I'm interested in full fidelity, I would very much be excited about a full fidelity Russian jet. You said American but I assumed that meant Western. I would love to see a Tornado or Eurofighter or Typhoon someday, but yeah, bring on the MiGs and Su's
  7. I don't think he mentioned that your have to power up the IFF. It's controlled by the UFC. Just like TACAN and DL, click on the IFF button, then click ON.
  8. If you're worried about transmitting in a combat zone, consider placing your TACAN in receive only . I also thought it was weird that I couldn't turn it off since the latest update...
  9. That's probably closer to the truth. Also note that the burn time for A/A missiles is typically measured in seconds, so it's not like they're leaving a trail of smoke behind them for the entire time of flight
  10. I think I understand his position, but I also think DCS is an entirely different animal. The flight sim community is small and niche, and the things that apply to broad mass market product launches don't necessary apply here. I think, that among our small community, word-of-mouth is probably more valuable than carefully managed branding. My understanding is that HB has a product that's very close to release (they stated in another thread that they're ready to announce a release date but need the go-ahead from ED) but they probably also have some things that need ironing out before sending their product out into the wild. Personally I love the YouTube videos and am glad that guys like Jabbers and Magz are able to share their Tomcat adventures with us. I'm sure that in the creation of those videos there are some ugly bugs and other things that are edited out and if they were present in an EA release would generate some unpleasant word of mouth. I say keep it coming, and OP, congrats on releasing products that have moved 100s of millions of units, but I think that your lessons as they apply to mass appeal may not be entirely relevant when applied to the niche appeal of the flight sim market.
  11. So yes, if you have both versions installed they are currently the same version, but are independent of each other, insofar as they are two separate installs/programs on your computer. Eventually the OB will be updated again and they will be different versions then. Not sure what's on your computer. Poke around in file explorer and see if you have two DCS folders watch in the tens of GBs
  12. Very cool! I was complaining about that just a couple post ago. Thank ED
  13. EMCON Refueling: Form up in left joined Tanker observer has an Aldis lamp he's flashing at you Basically one long flash means you're cleared to the next position Joined-Astern-Contact-Disconnect-Reform If the receiver stays in the basket after the disconnect flash, he wants more fuel Quick flashes on the Aldis mean breakaway Pod lights are wrong in-game, Amber=Tanker ready. Green=Fuel flow, Red=Hyd failure in pod, plug at your own EXTREME risk (droopy hose-sine wave-more parts/less parts). The tankers should have the hoses in trail waiting for the receiver if they know they're coming. Would love to see corrected pod lights, hose markings, and trail behavior in the game
  14. When the tanker does its hose checks, it sets a reference pressure against which the hose is responsed. 140 lbs is the engagement force to seat the probe. The reel won't response until the dynamic pressure on the drogue has decreased by at least this much, otherwise it would start responsing spontaneously without a receiver in the drogue. So I'm going out on a small limb here by claiming that the 140 lbs represents the lower limit of force applied from the drogue to the receiver. Anything more than 420 lbs and you disconnect. That's how I'm applying those mechanical connect/disconnect limits to the forces experienced by the receiver.
  15. KC-130 Specific; can't speak for any other platforms: Engagement force is 140 lbs. Hydraulics in the pod respond to a change in dynamic pressure and reel in or out the hose in order to prevent drooping which leads to sin wave formation which leads to more parts or less parts. Disengagement force is 420 lbs. Your hose response (force the jet exerts on the hose/force the drogue exerts on the jet) is somewhere in that range. What's 140-420 lbs of force compared to the aero drag on the jet at refueling speeds (220-250 KIAS)? Probably pretty negligible but also not zero.
  16. Ka-50 - She's a cold blooded killer. The steepest part of the learning curve is figuring out how to fly with the autopilot rather than against the autopilot. Once you're using the SAS to your advantage, she's really easy to fly and fight.
  17. I'm a medium dark skinned male with a pleasing baritone voice. Can we have a pilot that looks and sounds more like me? My wife is a light skinned female. Can we have a pilot that looks and sounds more like her? Etc...
  18. Full startup. But the F/A-18C is designed to be easy to start and fly. I feel like the A-10C startup is a bit more involved than the Hornet. Buy the Hornet. The Hawg was the flagship module of DCS for a long time, but that torch is passing to the Hornet. F-16 confirmed for 2019. Watch this video and pay particular attention to the last 20 seconds: And check this out from the comments section... Viper's coming, man :D
  19. What does it say when you have both Bs and Cs loaded? How do you cycle between the two?
  20. Easy fix. Thanks man. Works like a charm :D
  21. Anyone else having this problem? Since the last update I have been unable to get Mavericks off the rail. AUTO drops with GBUs work fine, and I can lock up a laser-spotted target with the 65Es just fine, but I'm unable to shoot. Known bug? Change to procedure? Just checking to see if it's me or others have the same issue. Thanks.
  22. Red - no hydraulic power to pod. Amber - tanker ready Green - fuel flow Flashing Green - intermittent fuel flow (tanks topped off or refueling malfunction. Can we get the light logic corrected please?
  23. Just out of curiosity, how does the CCIP gun calculate a solution? If you want an accurate solution you need to know your slant range to the ground, and with the absence of a ground radar or a targeting FLIR, I can't think of any reason the Hornet should have an accurate gun pipper
  24. Mo planes Mo problems... My advice would be to get FC3 now. Yes, MAC will have more planes available to fly, but if you want to become proficient in any of them you'll need to devote some time to each one. So get FC3 now, fly the heck out of those planes, and then if you feel you're getting bored, buy the MAC upgrade or start picking up modules a la carte.
