To add to this question: Wags showed you can set the impact azimuth from 0 to 360°, he left it on 0. What if I don't want to set it, simply letting it impact the way I happen to fly when pressing the pickle button? Do I leave it at 0? Does 0 mean "not used" and 360° actually means north? Otherwise not changing it with approach direction could mean I lose range because the bomb has to steer more and changing azimuth setting with each bomb run seems tedious.

[solved] Central position trimmer jumps
Donglr replied to Donglr's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Thank you, sir! That did it. Strange, I am pretty sure I did not turn that on myself as I didn't even know what it does (I do now). -
Hi all, I use a regular TM Warthog with spring to fly the Mi8. I discovered yesterday, that the trimmer does not work anymore as I remember it. Usually I trim and the caret in the controls indicator stays in the position it was when I pressed the trim button. Now (maybe since the last update?) the caret always jumps a bit down and right from where I pressed the trim button. You can even "walk" the caret all the way to the bottom right of the controls indicator by repeatedly pressing the trim button without even touching the stick. All other helos work as expected, only the Mi8 has this problem. Also I found that when starting a mission, I tested it with a hot-start instant free flight mission, the caret is already a bit to the bottom-right right from the start, without me touching/pressing anything.

Hi gents. I run Helios 1.6 with Captn Zeens F16 profile. Down in the center it has some text fields that open up the left and right side panels. Since I use a touch screen and the text buttons are quite small I fat finger accidentally the wrong one sometimes. So I would like to move them and make them bigger. But how? In the preview the buttons are visible but all I can do is click them and they open the side panels. There is no resize or move box. And in the project explorer I could not find those buttons, they don't seem to be part of the main panel.

This server is a great idea. I enjoy it quite a bit. Just tried fire fighting. I read the pdf before, but I still have some questions: 1. It said you should drop the water in front of the fire, so the wind pushes it into the watered section. But how far ahead should it be? Should I still get the "good drop on the fire" message or would that be not far enough? 2. How long does the water last? Basically if I spray a 50x50m square will it still be considered "wet" 10mins, 20mins later and be unable to catch fire? And maybe a proposal: it is a bit sad that one has to decide on fire fighting or rescueing when selecting the airframe. Maybe it is possible to switch tasks via the F10 menu when one is landed at an airport or FARP.

Honey, I developed FFB joystick (DIY)
Donglr replied to propeler's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Quite impressive what that little thing can pull. And a massive thumbs up for pulling something like this off. Ich had a look at your GitHub but it seems "only" the schematics and a lib are available atm. Do you plan on releasing the source code as well as the step files to actually build the complete joystick hardware? Also you use one controller per motor, meaning two STM32 control two motors so only one axis per STM32. How do you make one device out of it that gets recognized as a single joytsick? -
I never understood the rational behind the question "should I buy this now or wait?". You simply have to answer the question "do I want to fly this thing or not?". If the answer is yes then buy it. What is the advantage of waiting? It will be more complete. But that is no advantage really. If you buy now and you like it now you will have fun now AND when it is more complete. If you don't like it now you will still have fun later. If you buy later you potentially missed out on the fun now and "only" get the fun later, same as if you would have bought already now and benched it for some time. If you consider ever paying money for a module you would potentially like to fly to me it is all about maximizing fun POTENTIAL vs money. The only valid reason in my mind for postponing a purchase (assuming you have the money in the first place) is if there is a potential monetary benefit in it. But just look at EDs price policy: a module will never be cheaper than during sale in its early access stage. The A10C is OLD (but a beauty and worth every penny) but you will not get it for $20 on sale, because it is a five-star module. So why wait? It will not get cheaper and all that could happen is that you don't like it now. But that is no loss really because you can still like it later.

Your solution would give you what you want. There is no value for "4 chaff at once", each one is always released with a gap, the burst interval. All you can do is make this interval small like with the 2ms you have in your example. There is actually a mod for this with in game integration: DiCE To me the hardest part is actually knowing what setting is useful. Is it worth doing bursts? What should be the intra-burst interval? ...

Or those of us who don't want to fiddle with files but rather have a handy options window under "Special" can use this
-
by all means please go into details, because I never use this switch, neither the weapons trains mode, to bore sight my MAVs. I can slew and lock just as fine wtihout them, so I wonder why I see people use them.
-
What is that actually needed for? What does it do during boresighting?
-
Unrelated to all this pitot talk, another possibility could be active autopilots. Have not watched the track file (PC is too far away from my couch where I am currently located ), so I do not really know what the phenomenon in discussion looks like, but when I flew yesterday I had my jet pulling down all the time. Turns out my ALT HLD was on because my HOTAS switch was in that position from flying another jet earlier.
-
I am not against the feature per se, but I strongly dislike the fact, that the F16 is the only jet where it is needed. My understanding is that in reality this is required for every jet because there always is some degree of misalignment. Either implement it for every jet or for none. Currently it feels like punishment for F16 owners. And since were are already on he topic of inconveniences: GBU laser codes The inability of changing them in the air is a major disadvantage and actually takes away some of the fun in multiplayer servers that run any kind of JTAC scripts/units. In reality the JTAC could change to our laser code, but that is impossible in DCS, so we have to set the JTAC's code - except the F16, we are left out of the fun. Apparently in reality the codes can only be set by switches on the ground, nonetheless any other jet can change them in the air, although unrealistic. Again, why is the F16 the only one with that limitation? Again feels like getting punished for choosing the F16.

I am sometimes unable to change Maverick target modes. I tried to switch from PRE to VIS but it stayed in PRE. I tried clicking the PRE OSB while the WPN page was SOI. I tried the ENABLE button as well. Tried both with the HUD as SOI also. I even tried to CZ on the TGP prior to attempting to change MAV mode, still nothing. On other occasions it works. So I guess it is a user error. What is the problem? Thanks.

Absoluter Flight Sim Newbie sucht Tipps zur Basisausrüstung
Donglr replied to Mr.Hawkeye's topic in Deutsch
Absoluter Flight Sim Newbie sucht Tipps zur Basisausrüstung
Donglr replied to Mr.Hawkeye's topic in Deutsch
Absoluter Flight Sim Newbie sucht Tipps zur Basisausrüstung
Donglr replied to Mr.Hawkeye's topic in Deutsch
How do you land the viper without running out of runway
Donglr replied to ruddy122's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I actually have no issues getting the bird stopped in time, just wanted to help out whoever is struggling by posting the findings of the Grim Reapers. I myself prefer aero braking for authenticity reasons. What I really struggle with whoever is the jet pulling to the side on take-off and during braking phase when landing. Already at what I would call low wind (5 m/s) I have to apply half of my possible rudder deflection to stay on a straight line during take off and when landing I kind of only use one wheel brake to counteract its pulling tendency not run off the side of the runway. Would be nice to know an expert's opinion on how realistic this is currently modelled. -
I went thru exactly the same experience. I even built a small Revell model of the F18 in anticipation of its launch but when I got into it it did not feel like what I had hoped for. Especially the HOTAS (or human-machine-interface in general) felt super bad, esp. coming from the A10, flying in VR and being used to not too often take the hand off my stick and search for the mouse. So quite disappointed by the F18. Not that it was made badly by ED or its EA state, just the bird itself didn't click with me. Then there was the F16. I never was a fan of the F16, just another tiny fighter with small MFDs, no map, only a single engine, limited ordinance. I am an A2G person so I never considered the Viper relevant to me, "it's for those A2A guys who want to feel like the playboys of the skies". Then spring sale came along and I was so frustrated with the F18 that I just got the F16 to fill the void. I had asked around earlier how it flies and esp if the HOTAS concept is any better than the F18's. And man that was a good decision! HOTAS makes way more sense, even though I find the A10 is still ahead. It has good engine response, the engine sounds good which gives you good audio feedback. The flight model is a handful, making handling the Viper in the air or on the ground more challenging than the F18, but it also makes the bird feel alive. In my heart I am a helicopter person. But in reality heiicopters in DCS online play matter next to nothing. So flying around for hours knowing that there is a fixed wing out there that can simply do your job better is not really satisfying. So I hop into the F16, which is the completely wrong aircraft for my kind of flying I do A2G where the F16 has limited carrying capabilities, zero loiter time, I fly slowly to preserve fuel, and it is so early access in terms of systems (JHMCS, weapons, HTS...) that it is probably the worst choice (of all the modern jets) for that kind of business. But I still enjoy it because it gives me the feeling of flying something that has character and once you master it it is a good tool. Once all the weapons and systems are integrated it will be much more useful for me. Even though some weapons will never make it to the F16, like SLAM or Harpoon, others will be available, like JDAM and JSOW, and close the gap to the F18. Some are even significantly more powerful than the F18 equivalents (i.e. CBU-97/105). One simply has to be clear about her limitations: short legs, limited weapons carrying capabilities. So I have to adjust my play style to the bird. That is until the Apache comes out and I can finally fly what I have been really waiting for for 15 years

How do you land the viper without running out of runway
Donglr replied to ruddy122's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
The Grim Reapers tried to answer the question if aerobraking helps. Answer is no, going directly to wheel brakes makes for a shorter landing. This is in the DCS universe obviously and real world aero braking technique is for reducing wheel brake wear, but if you struggle to get the bird stopped maybe this is something to consider. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqI8uvbBKss&list=PL3kOAM2N1YJcXK052YLROS5fo4m4lkrpG&index=5 -
I had the same question a few months ago and was told that the radar antenna compensates for your pitch. That actually makes sense, image you are maneuvering while trying to keep tracks on some targets, e.g. to guide a missile. Now imagine you would have to manage the radar elevation along with your actual flying and still keeping tracks of the targets - quite a work load which could easily result in a wasted missile
