Technically speaking, the 5k+ doesn't have a "better" resolution than the 8k, because it actually has a lower resolution. However, many have said that the 5k+ produces a "clearer" or "sharper" image and that and difference in SDE is worth it. It's supposed to be due to the linear instead of staggered pixel arrangement. This is why so many have opted to change from the 8k to the 5k+.

That sounds encouraging. Smart smoothing has only just been released, so I'm sure there will be further improvements. I'm hoping that performance will be noticeably better on a 2080 Ti.

I actually think I'm more competitive in VR. Orientation is much easier and I don't think spotting targets is harder at all. I had the same troubles on a 4k monitor. Fact is, most people (I'd say at least 70 to 80%) who have tried DCS with VR have found the experience so compelling so as to make it their primary means of interaction with the sim.

Another 2080 Ti review (KFA2 / Galax)
Boris replied to Boris's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For me, subjectively it's good. I've always been used to air cooling, so I'm not a silence freak. That said, I've had much, much louder in the past. In fact, I'd say the fan motors are silent, it's just the airflow which can be heard. https://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/11GB-KFA2-GeForce-RTX-2080-Ti-Dual-Black-OC-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_1288256.html -
I have a feeling that the people who, before a module is released, are like "release it already", "when is the release date???", "release it now!" are the very same people that complain about modules not being finished... "How about you stop developing modules before they're finished!"

I took the plunge last week and ordered a 2080 Ti. Most of the cards on the market are too long for my case, so my options were a little limited. I did first order the MSI Sea Hawk AIO water cooled card, but was promptly informed it's not in stock after all. After some more searching I stumbled upon the KFA2 2080 Ti OC card, which also ticked my length criteria. This card happens the cheapest on the market, being around 350€ less expensive than the more high-end models. But as 2080 Tis are already ridiculously expensive, I decided to take a chance on this card. I have to say, so far I'm very pleased. The reason the card has a relatively low price is the basic cooling solution. The advertised boost clock is also not that high at 1620 MHz, but average if compared to other cards on the market. While I expected a faster card, I didn't expect any surprises. So I was surprised to see, that my card does 1835 MHz at stock settings, reaching a comfortable 73 degrees. Also, I can easily push the card to 2000 MHz and hit 79 degrees at stock fan speeds. With a custom fan curve (and only somewhat more noise), I can keep the card at 72. Playing DCS in VR with my Oculus Rift I get noticeably better performance. On my 1080 Ti i ran DCS with 1.2 pixel density and medium visibility settings. I now get similar performance at 1.8 PD and ultra visibility. Moral of the story: You don't always have to pay for the very high end product to get great performance.

I respectfully disagree. This is a false analogy. You're underplaying the amount of new content and development that goes into every new FIFA game. Also, FIFA 2009 is no longer a supported product that is actively on sale. The Black Shark has been on sale since it's release and is still on sale as a current and available DCS module. We're essentially talking about a bug fix here, not new content. Current cockpit textures don't work well in the new engine, so that the use of certain cockpit systems is undermined (eg. autopilot channel lighting). As a currently supported module, I would also consider an update to bring it up to 2019 visual standards a bug fix. Now IF the Black Shark were to be given new content (skins, campaigns), new features (Igla, night capability) etc., then I paid upgrade would be justified.

Are you saying you use hand controllers for cockpit interaction and aircraft controls, or do you also use a HOTAS? If so, isn't it cumbersome to switch from the HOTAS to the controllers?

I'm still having this issue. Does anyone know the cause? The cursor will highlight as green on buttons, but otherwise it's a black cross.

It seems windows speech recognition cannot hear my microphone input at all. It's strange, because the microphone works with all other apps. I can record my voice clearly for instance, and the microphone test can also pick up the sound levels with no problem. I cannot however, use any of the windows speech recognition tools, asssociated microphone setup or speec recognition training. I'm just not being heard. I'm yet to find a solution by googling around... Maybe it's a bug with the latest windows update? EDIT: Solved it. Speech recognition was using a different audio device than the default windows audio device(my Rift mic). I had to disable all other recording devices from the sound card in order for it to use the Rift mic.

Having started VAICOM after about a month away from DCS, I'm no longer getting any kind of response from my voice commands. When I press the PTT button is says "listening", but VAICOM or Voice Attack doesn't seem to hear me at all. I've checked that my microphone is working and that the correct device is selected. What could be the problem here?

Definitely VR for experience, but be prepared to invest heavily in a high end machine. the incredible immersion makes up for any lack in resolution. If budget is an issue, go for TrackIR.

Seeing as we have the Persian Gulf map and the F-14 is still in active service with Iran, I think that developing an IRIAF version of the F-14 (and everything that goes with that) would be an excellent move. I can't imagine anything more immersion breaking than fighting against US Hornets with an American sounding RIO. There is a distinct lack of eastern operated, high fidelity, aircraft that can act as realistic antagonists for the US and other western aircraft. The IRIAF F-14 (especially in the context of the Persian Gulf), would fulfill this role perfectly.

I think the main problem here is that there is no information on how these systems were implemented. ED is not in the habit of doing guesswork or making stuff up.

Wow, just wow... I'm amazed at how such an innocuous request can trigger so many people. The OP has asked for the possibility of adding female pilots. No specifics (whether it's a body, face or just a voice). No one has asked for bicurious, gay or transgender representation in DCS. No one has called for forced gender parity. No one has called for enforcing an SJW political agenda. No one is forcing anyone to get "woke". Are you people actually afraid DCS will be infiltrated by an SJW agenda??? Where does this fear come from (rhetorical question, I'm aware of the current climate in some circles)? Why these allergic reactions? Let's bring this back to reality: Females make up 50% of the human population Over 20% of US Air Force personell are female (over 65,000 individuals) The US Air Force has 749 female pilots; 327 navigators; 229 air battle managers Female pilots exist Everyone is free to enjoy DCS While female pilots make up a small percentage of combat pilots, they are real and their inclusion would be realistic. The addition of female pilots would enrich DCS, not ruin, endanger or make it "politically correct". Whether or not it's worth the the effort and the extent of implementation is of course debatable. 1 in 5 US Air Force personell is female. This is a far larger number, then the number of female pilots. We could realistically expect to be hearing female voices very often. I hope that we will soon hear the inclusion of female voices.

For a very long time a majority of aircraft had a flat windshield part at the front of the canopy. This can be seen from the Spitfire and Mustang all the way through to at least the 70s, in US, British, French and Soviet fighters. Here's what I mean: I've always wondered why this is. It obscures a lot of the view to the front. Was it for structural integrity? However, there were contemporary aircraft that had cleaner bubble canopies, such as the T-38 that was introduced in 1961.

Are you sure you're looking at 2080ti cards? 2080ti usually costs roughly twice as much as the 1080ti and the cards are at least the same size or bigger. They're all monsters and the 2080ti even more so.
-
That probably doesn't have anything to do with your profile or lack thereof. I'm assuming you've got the relevant buttons mapped? The L-39 has a number of prerequisite switches to allow the firing of weapons. Don't forget to arm the weapons, and in the case of the ZA, flip the gun switch and select the respective hardpoints. Lastly (and this one always stumped me), don't forget the combat trigger safety cover.

I already own everything by the time these sales come along #firstworldproblems

I have to agree. Even at PD 2.0, I still have shimmering and jaggies that make my eyes bleed. I'd much rather run PD 1.0 with MSAA on.

I noticed exactly the same thing yesterday. So it's a VAICOM issue?

My in cockpit-cursor is black, which can make it quite hard to see, especially in the darker parts an in shadow. I'm sure this isn't normal. I know that Windows UI scaling has caused similar issues, but scaling back 100% hasn't rectified the issue. Anyone know what's causing this?

I've only now just bothered to look up Abkhazia. I had no idea. I won't post or say anything more because of the politics rule here, but I encourage people to read up on it.

Flaps MVR (middle position) really not assignable?
Boris replied to Boris's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I already have an actual DX button I want to assign Flaps MVR to. Problem is, that natively DCS World is completely missing this command in the UI key config. No big deal, I'll continue using my Warthog as normal.
