I've now tweaked various settings to a point where I'm pretty happy with the performance. I still get a few micro-stutters which haven't been able to get rid of yet. I'm thinking maybe preload radius? Steam VR: Manual override SS: 126% (steamVR recommended) - I tried setting below this without any real performance gains. Nvidia control panel: Power setting - Prefer maximum performance (helps a lot with GPU utilization issues) VR pre rendered frames - 3 Pitool settings: Hidden mask area - on Brainwarp - on Refresh rate - 72 Hz DCS Settings: Textures & water set to high Visib range medium Heat blur off Shadows high MSAA 2x Depth of field off Clutter/grass off Trees about 2/3 Preload full Chimney smoke 1 Anisotropic 8x Terrain shadows flat Cockpit global ill. on VR pixel density 1.0 Mods: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=215373 VR shaders mod - very important, as it probably gave me the best boost. Super long loading times after first start is normal, be patient.

As an owner of the Pimax 5k+, I can't wholeheartedly recommend it, due to the price and performance issues. It is the best you will get for the time being though. The performance issues can be ironed out with some tweaking, provided you have the hardware to back it up. What you will need: Pimax 5k+ - 615€ 2080 Ti (You'll really struggle with a 1080 Ti) - 1200€ At least one Vive base station (Pimax doesn't include them yet) - 150€ So you won't be paying just for the headset...

You mean the MiG-19??? Mot even close to the most boring module. Many people are looking forward to it That's just harsh.

+1 Hoping it's in today's update.

I haven't experienced a noticeable difference between low and normal FOV, so I've stuck to normal. I played around with the settings a bit more yesterday, but didn't get particularly far with Pimax and DCS settings alone. In search of more performance I installed kegetys VR are shaders mod and I'm glad to say that performance is much improved. It's at a level now where I would say it's more or less playable. I think that with official ED performance tweaks and improvement of brainwarp + ffr, I may become quite happy with the headset.

Pimax 5k plus order now and have it in 3 weeks or less!
Boris replied to A Hamburgler's topic in Virtual Reality
3 weeks or not, ordering now will get you a headset sooner. Be aware that it's VERY performance hungry though. You'll really struggle to get acceptable performance in DCS with your 1080 ti. -
Having tried the new Pitool with Brainwarp, 72Hz and with very conservative settings in DCS (PD 1.0, VR Settings with 2x AA), I have to say that it's still not at the level of performance where I would like it. No wonder, since a PD of 1.0 on the Pimax 5k+ is the equivalent of over 2.8 (!) on the Rift or Vive. And that's using hardware that's close to the fastest available. I'm hoping that the fixed foveated rendering and performance optimization in DCS will fill the gap that's still there.

Pimax 5k+ - Center view in DCS World (not working in the vertical?)
Boris replied to Boris's topic in Virtual Reality
Hi, thanks for the replies. It's working now with the new firmware Pitool update. -
Sounds good! Looking forward to try once I get home.

ED fanboy here! I won't give up on DCS just because a module is delayed by a few weeks (like that's never happened before).

I agree mostly, but by all accounts the MiG-19 was in evaluation first and I think it may do quite well. Looks like Razbam have done an excellent job on it and they seem to really have put in an effort to release a fully feature complete module (save for the inevitable post-release bugs), which is very rare these days. I think they're making a statement and are trying to make up for the still unfinished Harrier and constantly WIP Mirage. It deserves to get a prominent release and get noticed.

I have finally got my Pimax 5k+ working with a single light house station. So far so good, but for some reason, when I press the center VR button in DCS, it won't center in the vertical, only in the horizontal. Vertical tracking does work, so I can move my head up and down, but if I'm sitting, the DCS menu is always in the same position above me and I would have to stand to see it properly. Anyone know what's going wrong?

I for one can definitely say that clarity and readability of cockpit instruments is much better than in the Rift. There are some issues to be aware of though and it seems quality control needs to be improved if you read the pimax forums. My Headset arrived in great condition.

Try deleting the fxo and metashaders folders from you savedgames/DCS directory. It can work wonders sometimes. EDIT: Sorry, seems you've already done that.

I haven't got my headset yet, but by all accounts SDE is greatly minimized in the 5k+. Here's a DCS specific screenshot:

I use voice attack too. Yes, you obviously use the Rift mic, but you need the 3rd party software. Took me a while to set up, especially trying to get the Windows Speech Recognition engine to understand me.

Are you using VR? Apparently it looks glitchy in VR and it has been deactivated for now.

Suggestions for Replacement hat in Hog Throttle?

This is what you want: https://deltasimelectronics.com/products/thumbstick-slew-sensor-adapter -
That's more an accident of early access than a feature of early access. Early access should not be the best way for learning a module. What about the people who buy the module later? They'll be just as overwhelmed as you are with the A-10c. The A-10c has a series of training missions that are a great place to start. Meanwhile early access modules are being opened to the public with no training missions. I would much prefer complete modules with a detailed set of training tutorials. Here's the issues as I see it in principle (not just for Heatblur, but for all developers including ED): During pre-purchasing period Purchasers develop a sense of entitlement and hold the developer to release "promises". The developer is forced to eventually release something in order to not go too far over the initially stated release period Early access period The product is now open to the public, despite missing features - The public is happy because the module is finally "out"! People know it's early access, but they don't care. It's available and they want it now. As there is no release date/period now, the developer breathes a sigh of relief - The module is still worked on, but due to the immense pressure from before release, it's natural to want to slow down The public quite quickly wants the missing features to be added. Many even say the module is "broken" and demand it be fixed! - People start to get angry again The developer still needs to pour resources into the module in order to finally finish it. They also need to have a new revenue stream to cover these costs - They start work on a new module in order to have the next revenue stream in the pipe. While some are excited about the new project, many are annoyed that the developer has started something new without finishing the last module. The result: DCS World is a hodge-podge collection of modules in various states - From minor bugs to missing features and a lack of training, mission and campaign content. Hardly anyone is 100% happy with any particular module "Don't like early access, don't buy it" is not going to fix the overall current state of DCS World.

nVidia 418.81 huge performance drop
Boris replied to Lixma 06's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I too noticed a drop in performance for this driver using Oculus Rift. Even cleaned with DDU beforehand and set to "prefer maximum performance". -
It certainly is immersion breaking when you look behind and find your head outside of the canopy. That said, a certain other flight sim does have canopy limits and it can get very annoying. If this does get implemented, I'd ask that the limits are set not at the virtual head of the pilot, but at the actual eye point, to allow movement to maximum extremities but to avoid graphical breaching the canopy frame.

I can't believe I'm saying this, and many are going to hate me for it, but I'd much prefer for the early access of DCS modules to be abolished across the board. I don't belong to the "just release it already" crowd and I'd rather wait another year to fly the F-14 and have a fully feature complete module. I think it goes without saying that DCS developers, both ED and 3rd party, have the very best of intentions when making and releasing a module. However, the lack of pressure to finish the product has resulted in a lot of unfinished modules. I recognize that the modules are continually being worked on and I'm not necessarily criticizing any lack of progress, but it makes for a very strange state of DCS World where most of the modules are in various states of being unfinished or unpolished, missing manuals etc. I think Heatblur is generally very good with this, but the Viggen is still marked as in "early access" several years later. ED and other developers have also made truly excellent modules, but which are still incomplete. With the early access scheme, the temptation is very strong to move resources to other projects in order to open new revenue streams. As a result DCS as a whole feels very sandboxy to me. What I would rather see is complete modules with much tighter content, a slick singleplayer and a streamlined multiplayer experience.

I'm very surprised to read that you find the performance to be on par with the Rift. I'll also be curious to see your settings.

This is great news indeed and I really hope they stay on the ball regarding this. Flight simming is one of the best use cases for a high resolution/wide FOV headset IMO.

[FIXED INTERNALLY] 2.5.3.21444 Mouse cursor graphical glitch
Boris replied to backspace340's topic in VR Bugs
I'm still having this issue using Oculus Rift. Windows scaling seems to have no effect (set to 100%).
