Heritage Flight Simulation MkIX cockpit
Boris replied to shreddersa's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I had a look at the website to see what this is about. Looks amazing! So, you're rebuilding a Spitfire cockpit in order for it to be compatible with DCS in VR, in terms of touch? Have you thought about making a Warthog compatible Spitfire stick grip commercially available? -
I too have OCD what this kind of stuff is concerned, so I too find this stuff to be important for realism. Do you have a screenshot of the Spitfire using post war colours? I my opinion, the screenshots I've posted have colours that are in line with the duller WW2 tones. However, there are definitely issues with the roundel proportions. The white ring on the Type C.1 fuselage roundel appears too thick on both liveries. The Type B roundel on the wings of the first screenshot I posted is wrong (red too large). Second screenshot wing roundels appear accurate. Wikipedia has a good visual summary of the RAF roundels: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force_roundels#Roundel_history

MiG-21 used to be my favorite ride... can't stand it now
Boris replied to streakeagle's topic in MiG-21Bis
The MiG-21 still is one of my favourite rides. I find this whole conversation about canopy dirt well overblown. BUT, I have to say yes, the canopy is a little too dirty. Rudel, couldn't you have shown some videos or pictures of a MiG-21 with the type of canopy wear and dirt as depicted in your module? Instead you show us a Yak, a completely different airframe, with a "scratched, cracked and dirty" canopy, that to be honest, isn't even that bad. Any videos of MiG-21 cockpits I've looked for show canopies that are exceptionally clean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sjxkn9s_-tU -
Not my screenshot, but I'm not sure "neon hues" is a fair description. As compared to: I'm completely with you on roundel proportions. That should be fixed where ever it's an issue.

Spitfire Flaps to TM HOTAS Slider
Boris replied to Captain Orso's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I don't really understand why you would want to do this. As you said, Spitfire flaps are only up or down. Also, the controls are in a vastly different place than in the Mustang. -
Looking at a few screenshots of the DCS Spitfire in different liveries, I don't think the colours are inaccurate at all, and match the the photos you posted fairly well. Keep in mind that these photos were taken on older films and the photos have since aged. Can you post a screenshot of the livery in question?

Older Mi8 Skins not working with 2.5
Boris replied to CGReload's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I bet it's to do with the folder structure. Are you using JSGME as suggested in the mod description? If so, it might be the case that the files are being put in the wrong place according to the folder structure of an earlier DCS version. -
Shit, well then I won't mention when this was first reported :D

I'm not really calling for a restrictive server-side solution at all. If you only have the P-51 and don't plan on buying an axis aircraft any time soon, that's absolutely fine. I was just remarking that the collective sense of balance among the player-base seems to be lacking. Of course it could be the case that more people own only allied aircraft. Realistically speaking, I guess it's correct to have far fewer axis fighters in 1944 Normandy anyway :D
-
Thanks eekz for this server! I love the fact that more people are flying in it of late. I know not everyone may have the modules, but some kind of sense for team balance might make things a little more fun for everyone ;) Very often it's something like 12 allied planes vs 3 axis.

Not to be pedantic, but the sun and moon appear as almost exactly the same size as seen from Earth. The top image the is the strange sun and the second image is what it's supposed to look like, right? I also see that the sun overlaps the mirror. I too have noticed the sun looking much worse. It's especially terrible when overcast and during bad weather: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=212250

+1 I've wondered the same...

I disagree with all the complainers here. It's this kind of stuff that makes DCS World more immersive. Anything that makes flying over the terrain feel more real isn't unimportant at all. Cows are a very common sight and are as important as civilian road traffic, trains and trees. I'm very happy about the civilian foot traffic and civilian aircraft as well. A feature I would like to see is the option for mission builders to turn off or reduce civilian traffic for selected areas of a map. Or an option for wartime civilian traffic with wartime behaviour.
-
I'm certainly not demanding you add the Hornet, and please don't! I don't even fly it. I don't really ever see the server show up in my list though. I've only seen it once I think. Maybe it's a European thing?

FFB Curves just adds deadzone rather than curves
Boris replied to Headwarp's topic in Bugs and Problems
Pretty sure you can't set curves on an ffb stick. -
Looks great! I bought this module ages ago, but haven't been flying it, as I've been waiting for the AFM. Can't wait to try it out.
-
I almost never see the server in the list. The only way I can connect is by entering the IP address, but then I find the server almost empty. I fear many have the same problem and don't see the server show up. Given the popularity of Cold War servers, it's strange that this new one is so empty. I'd love to see this server as alive as ACG was.

Can ED please explain what is going on with the spitfire?
Boris replied to philstyle's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I certainly hope so! You'd think it'd be as easy as just going to the toolbar in the dev tool and clicking on "flip horizontal" :D -
Pixel density will also mitigate the issue somewhat. A common consensus is that 1.2 PD and 2x MSAA still gives good performance.

I picked up my package yesterday and spent last evening building a mount. Now I'm tinkering with the tension and getting everything set up. I'm very happy with it so far. I love the fact that I have no more stiction and hard center clunk as with the warthog. The CM grip is badass. The buttons work great, all have good haptic feel, the brake lever tension is good in my opinion. In pictures it looks huge, so I was worried it would be too big for my little Trump hands. Not so. I can reach all the buttons and hats just fine. The adjustable hand rest helps obviously. While I'm generally happy with the feel of the default cams, I find the center a little loose. The stick will wobble when I let go. Is it worth installing the hard center cams? Do they produce a center "clunk" when putting it through the range of motion?

DCS F-14 Update: JESTER AI Behind the Scenes Recording & Multicrew
Boris replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Ah! My first combat flight sim and some of my fondest childhood memories! :D Played it with this beast of a stick: -
As I understand it, technically speaking, you cannot see more than 60 fps on a 60hz monitor. If vsync is disabled, your graphics card can obviously produce more fps, but you won't actually see more frames output on the screen.

I got a shipping confirmation five days after the order confirmation, including tracking number.
