  1. Wow, looks like Vulkan might come earlier than a lot of people feared...
  2. It seems it hasn't been mentioned here yet, but in his guest appearance on the Alert 5 podcast Wags stated quite unambiguously, that MAC will be a standalone product.

    Cockpit mods

Sure, just overwrite the clean cockpit mod files with the clear canopy mod. Have a look in the folders... Mods/aircraft/Mig-21/liveries/cockpit (or something) to be sure you're transferring the right files, if you want to be sure. All files need to be in the same custom cockpit folder.
  4. Everything out now has SDE, even the Pimax 5k+. Generally, the higher the resolution, the finer it is. I'd carefully recommend the headset from an image quality standpoint, but the price is pretty enormous - You'd have to also invest in top high-end hardware...
  5. Would it be possible to couple the walkman volume to the "music" volume instead of the "in cockpit" volume?
  6. Twice the price for an 11% gain (at most). Gaming benchmarks show fps gains in the low single digits. I doubt we'd see anything different in DCS.
  7. Mors Mors! Yes, I clear the shaders regularly Really stange behaviour on the afterburner you have there... I get the impression that DCS seems to have a bit of a mind of its own. I get fairly dramatic performance differences with every DCS update and in combination with different drivers. Yesterday night I installed the latest Pitool release (non-beta) and tweaked the steamVR settings. I gave fixed foveated rendering another shot and now I must say my impression is very good. I even set it to "aggressive" and I find the result very good. The only small drawback is is some shimmering (due to aliasing) in the foveated area. I'm pretty sure I got a nice performance gain. Also, I went even lower on the supersampling in SteamVR. For some reason it seems to think 128% is a good setting for me by default. I had it running on 100%, but now I've set it to around 90%. This results in a horizontal resolution of just over 3000 pixels per eye, which is still much higher than the native 2560. There is a small sacrifice in clarity though. Settings in Pitool: Hidden mask area on Parallel projection off Resolution scaling 1 (off) FFR aggressive 72 Hz It's a good deal smoother now. This makes me much more confident, that the Pimax 5k+ will be improving even more in performance in the coming months. I'm sure advancements in Pitool will help further, and Wags has already announced that DCS will be optimized further towards VR.
  8. Same situation with the slow down since the F-14, but 419.35 doesn't help.
  9. Haha, well then you can just forget the Pimax 5k+ At least until hardware get's 50% more powerful or ED drastically optimize the graphics engine.
  10. FFR is already out in the Pitool beta and it's not very good. It looks pretty bad and it doesn't result in much of a performance gain.
  11. Strange that no one seems to have this yet. I'd be interested in getting one, because it's pretty much an F-5 grip and also closely resembles the F-86 and F-4 grips. The only reason I'm on the fence is because it's a twist grip, a function I won't be using. The T-50 base I have has very strong springs which I imagine can easily cause the stick to yaw. Can the twist mechanism be disabled?
  12. Yeah, it's really frustrating that you can't even throw money at the Pimax/DCS performance problem.
  13. That's really weird. It makes no logical sense to have better performance with higher supersampling (higher resolution).
  14. The performance hit this module causes isn't just noticeable on lower end systems, but also on high end systems running VR. Obviously things really slow down when the limits of the hardware are reached. Running with the Pimax 5k+, the performance in the Tomcat is significantly worse than in any other module. Subjectively I'd say as much as 30%. While being able to run decent settings and get more or less smooth results with other modules, I need to cut the graphics right back with the Tomcat, and then still get stuttering.
  15. I just attempted to make the mod selctable as a custom cockpit, but the F-14 doesn't have the "Customized Cockpit" dropdown. What the hell?
  16. It has nothing to do with rendering and everything to do with textures. This could easily improved by adding a "VR friendly" cockpit. Sure there's work involved, but it's a cosmetic, not a coding issue.
  17. The cockpit weathing I'm sure is 100% accurate and true to real life airframes that saw much use in the US Navy. It does look great. However, I'd love an optional, functional, high contrast, clear label cockpit for use in VR. Not just the worst problem areas, but a complete cleaner cockpit, with crisp labels and no weathering on them. I think the general weathering is great, but the switch labels are critical for functionality. Also brighter and more readable cockpit lights. It just isn't usable as is in VR, unfortunately. I completely agree that it has to be realistic, but being able to read and understand the labels is part of that realism. The best solution would be to have a "VR cockpit" option.
  18. I have significantly worse performance in VR in the F-14, almost to the point where I'd say it's completely unplayable. I tested multiple other aircraft on the same version and these perform as before. Even rolling graphics options right back to minimums doesn't help. I also tried deleting metashaders and fxo, reinstalling the NVidia drivers and tweaked various nVidia, pitool and steamVR settings, all to no avail. I'm using the Pimax 5k+ by the way. It's a shame, but I'll be unable to fly the F-14 until it's optimised.
  19. I think you might need to seek a therapist in order to treat your OCD
  20. The A-7 is a newer aircraft and was based on the F-8 design.
  21. What makes you think it's only 10 to 20%? The performance jump from a 1080 Ti to a 2080 Ti is more like 20 to 30% and people were complaining that this jump is far too small for the price increase. The gain from a 980 Ti to a 1080 Ti was well over 50%.
  22. I think he's working on a number of different campaigns and official module training missions in parallel, so no wonder this project has been taking so long. I'm also very much looking forward to this, as his work is top notch.
  23. Absolutely no reason why it shouldn't. It improves performance across the board, not just for VR.
  24. Excellent! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
  25. Honestly, I haven't been looking at fps at all, only at the qualitative experience, which is good overall, but I see ghosting on fast moving objects. What's the best way to view fps from within the headset?
