Piamax 8kx - Is it me, or my system? (Poor Image Quality)
Mistermann replied to Mistermann's topic in Virtual Reality
Definitely on my list of things to try. Once I get this stable in a "base" implementation, I will move on and test out PimaxXR. Just based on sitting in the cockpits of the Hornet and Huey, i am in for a real treat. I am seeing the DCS world with a whole new level of clarity. -
Piamax 8kx - Is it me, or my system? (Poor Image Quality)
Mistermann replied to Mistermann's topic in Virtual Reality
Fellas ... you are a godsend! Thank you. I am now experiencing what I expected from the Pimax. FOV set to "small" to begin allowed me to set the DCS PD to 2.3 and I am seeing cockpits in MUCH better focus and fidelity. While I sacrificed some FOV, it is still better than the Rift, even at the "small" setting. I haven't had time to actually test this out from an FPS perspective, but knowing what knobs/switches to play with in the pitool helps tremendously. Thanks!! I'll report back where I land later. -
Is the Pimax 8kx right for me at this time? This is a post about my experience with the Pimax 8kx after 3 days of use. I am moving off the Oculus Rift-S, so will compare the Pimax experience with my personal experiences with the Rift-S over the past 5 years. I purchased the Pimax knowing my machine specs were likely on the low end for the headset. CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3600 Mhz RAM: 32GB Video Card: NVIDIA TRX 2080TI (32GM VRAM) I figured if my experience was horrible, I’d have a headset for my next machine upgrade. I fear I am in that situation… Insane FOV First off – The Pimax FOV is extreme! The sense of speed that I found lacking in the Rift is definitely there in the Pimax as the FOV feels close to real life to me. It this reason alone that I am willing to give up some image quality. But I am not willing to go as far as unreadable gauges. Blurry Cockpits After days of fiddling, I can’t get the pimax to render the screens as well as the rift. I know we’re talking apples and bananas here as the pimax’s upside is huge. Running base vanilla stock DCS I could get 30 FPS with readable cockpits on the Rift and I am getting 70FPS and blurry cockpits on pimax. I can’t push the DCS Pixel Density beyond 1 for the pimax. If I push to 1.1 or greater, the pimax display stutters as I move my head from side to side. When using my rift, I always left the DCS pixel density at 1.0 and pushed quality and ASW in the tool, not DCS. Maybe I can do that same thing in Pitool or Steam VR? I don't run DCS via steam, so this steam VR is a new wrinkle to me as well. Note: I am willing to go the OpenXR route, but wanted to get things dialed in with the base setup before I stared messing with mods and adding all sorts of variables to my VR experience. What to do For those running the pimax with a similar system to mine, are you able to read the cockpits? I am HOPING with more configuration gymnastics I can get acceptable results from the pimax. Below are my settings. Any advice is absolutely appreciated. Pimax PiTool Settings DCS Settings SteamVR Settings Conclusion It feels like I may have purchased the pimax before my system was ready to support. I hope this is the frustration typing/speaking. Thanks for reading. Appreciate any advice folks are willing to share. Thanks!

OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)

Windows Mixed Reality doesn't recognize headset I am stuck on step 6. Any advice would be appreciated. WMR is not seeing my Pimax 8kx, yet the Pimax tool sees it just fine. See below: Top image is the Pimax tool showing connection status (Base not connected) and the bottom is the WMR telling me to connect the headset. The Pimax is a brand new headset for me and has been nothing but trouble getting setup on my system (had a Rift-S before so this is a HUGE upgrade). I did finally get it working and running in DCS. That FOV is incredible. Unfortunately I don't know where to go from here. Anyone else have this issue where WMR doesn't "see" their headset? If so, how did you correct? I did try searching this thread before posting. None of my search terms produced any meaningful results. Am I "up a creek" here? Things I've already tried - Updated windows (10) - Removed and reinstalled WMR Thanks for any help/assistance. -
I picked up this campaign yesterday even after seeing this thread. I fired up mission one and crossed my fingers that it would perform. It was a slideshow. As a VR only guy, I was pretty bummed. HOWEVER When I looked at my VR settings I noticed I had the textures set to HIGH Now, I've never really had any performance issues with this setting turned to High. I ended up downgrading that setting to Medium. I expected to have my VR experience turn to garbage, but I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't really impact anything that I noticed off the bat. My FPS on base went from 9 to 20! Still not great, but playable at this point. Per @ChillNG, once I got away from Incirlik/Adana the performance went back to "normal". Maybe this helps some other folks who might be in the same situation.

My mind is blown with every image post from @aston-m777. This mod looks to be EPIC! If it flies half as good as it looks, we're in for a treat. Thanks for the effort and sharing your talents with the community.

F/A-18C Kneeboard Suite - Updated 12 October 2025
Mistermann replied to Minsky's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
@Minsky - Thanks a TON for creating and maintaining these! They are extremely helpful and beautifully done. Love the layout and fonts. Much appreciated. -
@baltic_dragon I think the latest patch may be messing with this campaign. When starting the mission (#3), I never spawn into the plane. I just sit there looking at the F10 map. Pressing F1 doesn't do anything (since there's no plane to show the cockpit). It also appears that the entire carrier is missing as my F2 key toggles between AWACS and the Rescue Heli. When viewing the helicopter, there's no boat in sight. Here's a screen grab (VR) of the F10 map as I wait for the carrier and planes to spawn. As you can see the trigger for radio check is active. Not sure if other missions or campaigns are impacted. Here's hoping it doesn't take 2 weeks for an ED fix here. A few other observations: - I waited more than 2 minutes for the plane to spawn as the briefing indicates there is a built in delay of 2 seconds (I believe) - I quit and tried multiple times thinking this might be a me problem. I went into the mission planner before hitting FLY and the boat was there along with all the flights and waypoints. Unfortunately when I hit FLY, the same problem persists. SOLUTION I Performed a DCS REPAIR and it's now working. I'll leave this thread for others to see just in case they have similar issues. Odd. @baltic_dragon sorry for the false alarm.

Over my DCS career AAR has been the most difficult element for me to tackle - by FAR. Like most things in life, it takes practice, dedication and repetition to get it right. That answer isn't what most people want to hear, I know. This is one of those tasks that you have to "do" to get right. It doesn't matter how many youtube videos you watch ... none of them are going to make you a better aviator on the stick/throttle/pedals. For YEARS (10+), I used a side stick with no extension. I'd fiddle with the curves and eventually got decent enough to catch the basket and then hang on for dear life. It never felt natural. I never got comfortable and AAR remained something that I dreaded doing. I'd practice, but never really saw much improvement. I often lost contact and would have to re-engage the basket. That was until I invested in a stick extension and mounting brackets for my HOTAS. I now run with ZERO curves on my stick and AAR feels great. I no longer tense up and can AAR like I've been doing it for years. I have found a new lease on all those campaigns that require AAR to fully enjoy. So this is just MY experience. Lots of practice AND better equipment is what worked for me. Lastly, as a wannabe fighter pilot that will never get any closer to the experience outside of DCS, the AAR milestone remains one of the most rewarding of my "career". My words of encouragement are - "Don't give up!"

Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022
Mistermann replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
@Barthek , is there an update to the download? Or are you just reporting some new progress? Sorry for my confusion. -
Hey @Roby7979 - thanks for putting this together for us! 15 missions is a crazy amount of work and I just want to say thank you. I am about to embark on the journey through these missions. I see that you base this story mostly in the Caucasus, which makes sense given the setting you mention in your video on the campaign page - https://youtu.be/ZAuGiTil04E I am curious why you're also leveraging the Marianas map as well? Not a criticism, just genuine inquisitiveness on my part. Did the Caucasus map not offer something from a story telling perspective that the Marianas does? When I reviewed the briefing for mission 2 (uses Marianas map), I didn't see any indication as to why the change in theater. Thanks!!

If you haven't done so already, you may consider hitting up Tyler on his discord server (https://discord.gg/bhagnFsp).

I downloaded the mission just to checkout the VO work. Nicely done, @MorrisTheCat! Having quality voice actors and the wherewithal to edit/mix audio is a black art that I've spent lots of time over the years trying to achieve. I know it isn't easy. The results you've achieved are great. Congrats on the success.

@SkateZilla - As part of the "non-vocal majority" here, I LOVE what you've done. Use it multiple times a day. Consider it a must have application to sit alongside DCS. I suspect Rudel's comment was tongue in cheek. Please know there's a contingent (...and I hope its a majority, but have no way of knowing) of us that would run this as-is for the next 10 years and don't expect/demand anything from you whatsoever. Thanks for sharing your passion with us!

I love the approach you guys are taking on this one. One story, two different perspectives (Hornet and Viper). Also makes sense from a level of effort standpoint as well, I suspect. Pretty neat that you're setting this in the near future (Dec 2022, if I remember correctly). I don't want to read too much into that setting ... I can't imagine you're considering to a Holiday 2022 delivery, are you? I know you can't answer that Regardless of "when", these campaigns releasing alongside the map might set the standard for how new maps are released. I congratulate both Reflected and BD on selection/recommendation from ED to produce stand along campaigns to this new exciting region.

I have been away from the Hornet for about 9 months so there may be something that changed or I've picked up some bad habits during my time away. Serves me right for cheating on my girl for so long! This behavior seems to only occur when I ground start. I never experience this in the Bankler Case1 trainer, for instance. On approach to the runway, when I drop the gear and set flaps to FULL (from Auto), the jet pitches up quite aggressively. The FPM climbs up to 10°-15° or so on the pitch ladder. I fight the jet with forward stick deflection and it becomes a battle of Man vs. Machine. If I reset the FCS, all goes back to "normal" and I land no problems. I don't recall ever experiencing this behavior in the past, so I thought I'd check here and see if something new was introduced to the Hornet or maybe I'm just being a mentally challenged virtual pilot. Thanks!

Supercarrier IFLOLS Reduced/Removed Glow
Mistermann replied to Taz1004's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Right. Never use anything BUT ovgme. Still need to know where to tell it to install. The answer is base for anyone wanting to know. -
Awesome! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
-
From today's official news. @Reflected, does this mean you're going to tackle a Hornet campaign on the Kola Peninsula

Multiple Static Units In Group
Mistermann replied to rwbishUP's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
Here's the video I mentioned above. Similar to @RedKite's approach for carrier statics found elsewhere on the forums. This approach differs slightly as there's a spreadsheet associated with @gmangnall's solution where it builds the LUA code automagically. It also supports more than CVN statics. This allows folks who have some comfort level with scripts to create a repository of grouped statics for use across missions (in a specific map). He describes in the video above. The link to this spreadsheet along with some examples is here - https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3320819/ I am going to play around with this and see what I can learn.
