The significance will always be that it is the environment where Red Flag takes place. There are campaigns available based purely on NTTR, so if you want to fly them, you will need NTTR. Also, the reason it materialised was due to a commitment made when DCS World was first marketed. I wouldn't worry too much about marketing it if I were you. I am sure ED have it covered.

SUGGESTION - GENERIC AREA MAPS/THEATRES WITH SELECTION OPTION
NeilWillis replied to SUNTSAG's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I am quite sure there might be a big market for generic maps. However, a big aspect of operational flying is navigation, so how that aspect could be catered for may be a severely limiting factor. Given enough choice of real-world locations, in the manner we are currently seeing them, pretty much every geographical region could be covered, and as for historical depictions, all flying is a modern era thing, so with the addition of asset packs, such things as unique buildings, and equipment can be covered. So really, I can't see a place for generic maps when you get down to details. It is something that might be possible given some work-rounds however. -
Yep, I'm not disputing anything you said, but you quoted me, and I said "warfare". Hence the response. Nothing confrontational intended.

It is often discounted by ED to mark holidays and such. It is also made more attractive by the Red Flag campaigns among other things. It was always going to be the case that DLC will not be free. The Caucasus map is simply an update, and ED have a policy of allowing DCS World to be downloaded free along with 2 aircraft. I don't see any of their policies changing any time soon. I suspect NTTR and all maps aside from the Caucasus will always be premium content just like additional aircraft and recently, asset packs which consist of period specific ground units and ships. The sales will draw in customers for even the least interesting stuff.

[Reported]M257 rockets make DCS crash
NeilWillis replied to Nooch's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Hang on a week or two for a fix. 1.5.8 is obsolete now, and will be getting no support from here on. -
There is a vast difference between a border skirmish and a war. Consult International Law to get the exact definition of a war. When you look at all the possibilities of a map suitable for a combat simulator, I can think of dozens that would precede Switzerland. Here's a possible list: Any other part of Europe - except all the neutral bits. Any part of Asia. Any part of Australasia and the Pacific. Any part of Africa. Any part of the Americas. Any part of the Arctic. Any part of the Antarctic. Then comes Switzerland and any other neutral regions of the world. Sort of gives you an idea of the priorities of the majority of people not living working or flying in Switzerland really.

My email is out of service right now. Private message sent here.

Definitely a warfare hotspot Switzerland! What we really need, another training range. Oh hang on, when was the last war there? I suspect the aeroplane hadn't even been invented last time there was any fighting there!

Or, he could wait for the updated Oculus which will of course be far better than the Vive! Apart from which, he already has the Rift.

What are you excited about in DCS for 2018
NeilWillis replied to iVVChewy9141VVi's topic in Chit-Chat
2nd Gen VR, 2.5 and all that will follow in it's wake, definitely the Hornet and Tomcat. And just any kind of year that's better than 2017 - boy was that year awful for everything outside DCS World! -
Bad Rift Cable? Anyone experience this?
NeilWillis replied to Mad Dog 7.62's topic in Virtual Reality
Why send back the entire device when the cable simply plugs into the headset? I think mine is on it's last legs too. Not really happy about returning it for repairs I could carry out in seconds given the cable. -
In reply to the original posting, we use TeamSpeak at RAF Air UK. A friendly bunch of guys, who fly on Tuesdays and Thursdays mostly, but have a server running all the time for those who want to fly in smaller groups. website will give you all the info you need to get started: http://www.rafairuk.co.uk

In a low fuel situation, you'd take appropriate steps to secure the aircraft BEFORE the engine shuts down. Even a loss of fuel due to battle damage would give prior warning of a fuel emergency. There are 2 fuel status warning light for just this reason, and if you ignore them, and fail to factor in fuel requirements at mission start then there is but one course of action open to you - eject! The procedure for running out of fuel is "Never run out of fuel".

The Open Alpha part of the address is specific to v2.2 You need to go to: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin

The only solution is Ordnance Surveyors Anonymous Crazyeddie. We meet every alternate Tuesday night in the National Geographic Society bar :smilewink:

The first route is to look well ahead when hovering in anything. Keep the horizon level, and you'll reduce sideslip tendency much more effectively than "chasing the ball". The key is anticipation and not just trying to react to what's already happening. It is however an art that takes a lot of practice. It is one reason Harrier pilots in the UK start their course by flying helicopters long before they're let loose in the Harrier.

Major wind/performance bug in 1.5.8
NeilWillis replied to bbrz's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Is there a reason you have asked this same question separately for a different airframe? Hoping to get better results by multiple threads? -
AI have a completely different flight model, so they don't always behave as you'd expect. Hopefully they'll get more attention once we have a stable 2.5.
-
I believe the KC130 is just the C130 AI that was part of DCS World since I don't know when, with the addition of the refuelling pods. I'd say there were a lot of other things more important to Razbam right now that the sould files for a stop-gap tanker. For example, finishing off the Harrier. It is something that could well be updated in time, and you certainly have a good point, but it may be a while.

Great, thanks for the heads up Grimes. It is a mountain of work, which might account for the lack of movement on this from ED so far. I guess step 1 is to make a list of all sound files we'd need to update for it to work correctly.

I can never find my box of crayons when I need them!

What? You mean it's never just good guys and bad guys? Don't what ever you do tell anyone about this. Unless they're wearing black hats and white hats the balance of the Western world will be in jeopardy!

The end of a long, and very complex change to the graphics engine is in sight. I can understand your frustration, we are all in the same boat. And I can assure you that the guys at ED feel it too. It can't have been easy releasing every update twice - just think of all the extra man hours needed just for that! The real point however is that ED have listened, and they're not making the mistakes that have been made in the past by releasing 2.5 in an incomplete state. When it comes, the vast majority of missions will have been updated to work with it too. It's been a huge task.
